"Every Toastmaster's Journey Starts With a Single Speech"
We are a group of dedicated individuals who meet weekly to become better communicators and leaders. This is done under the Toastmaster's, Intl. organization.
Each meeting starts with one to three speeches by members who are completing a handbook of ten speech assignments. Then the speeches are evaluated in an uplifting and encouraging manner. After this the fun really starts, because the next phase is table topics. The Table Topics master gives willing members the opportunity to speak extemporaneously about a subject they don't know in advance. This is a great tool for teaching us to think on our feet.
Once the table topics are done, some votes are taken to see who wins the best speaker, best evaluator and best table topics. Some club business may then be conducted and the meeting is adjourned.
Different Toastmasters groups have different characters. This group is open to all, from students to professionals, from empty nesters to small business people, from entrepreneurs to storytellers.
NOTE: New location and night, Wednesdays at the UVU Business resource center https://goo.gl/maps/ZrIvV
The meeting space allows for meeting sizes ranging from just a few members to 20-30 members.
This is a small, personal group where you will feel welcome and you will have a chance to learn at your own pace. Participation is encouraged, and due to the smaller meeting sizes, everyone has to help out, sometimes wearing more than one hat.
Meeting roles include speakers, evaluators and the table topics master already mentioned. In addition, a more experienced member of the group will act as the Toastmaster, running the meeting. Then a General Evaluator manages the various evaluations. There are also minor roles for newer members to get their feet wet, like timer, listener and more.
While you can attend meetings as a visitor for free, there are dues to pay if you are a fully participating members. The clubs only keeps a few dollars of the dues, while the bulk of the money goes to the Toastmasters, Intl. organization to pay for materials like the Competent Communicator and Leadership manuals you will receive as part of your membership.
If you have ever thought of joining a group like this, please check us out, especially the last meeting of the month, which is a Pot Luck. See you there!
