The Sakura are blooming! So, it's time for a trip to High Park to view them!

2000 of the Sakura trees in High Park were given to the City of Toronto by the Japanese Ambassador to Canada in 1959 as a thank you for Toronto taking in re-located Japanese families following World War II and it is the time of year we appreciate the beauty of the blossoms.

We will meet at the High Park Station ticket booth (where you pay). Look for a sign with "TJEX Ohanami" on it.

We will likely be near the pond somewhere on the hill. (See photo below, between the marker and road). If you want to look for us, look for a blue tarp and signs with "TJEX Ohanami" on it.

Directions: Exit High Park Station via High Park Avenue and make a right when you get to the street. Upon entering High Park, follow the road to the right for about 10-15 minutes until you get to the Sakura trees.

If anyone wants to come early and help with setting up, please let me know. We can use some extra help.

If you do not meet us at the station, there is a building at the top of the hill (within the park area) that is (was?) used for washrooms, we will use that as an alternate meeting place for people looking for us who are late. Once you get to that building, give me a call. I will send my number late Friday or early Saturday to those who RSVP by Friday evening.

If you wish to do so, you may bring something to eat with you. There are also hot dog vendors and Grenadier Cafe. Note, unlike Japan, you can NOT drink alcohol in public parks. I will be bringing some snacks for everyone to share, complements of TJEX.

I suggest bringing a blanket, towel or a lawn chair as there are little to no benches where we will be. However, TJEX will have a big blue tarp that we will use to sit on.

You may also want to take a stroll through the small zoo within the park.

Please keep the temperature in mind, and dress according to the weather. You may also want to bring sunscreen as we will be outside all day. We will have an event rain or shine.

Note, this event will end in time for those going to the Language Exchange event afterwards.

Any questions, please feel free to message me. Hope to see you there!
