The Tel-Aviv-Yafo Entrepreneur Meetup Group is proud to participate at the mini seedcamp Tel-Aviv event, hosted by
the.co.ils and the
IDC . Seedcamp is holding "
mini seedcamp Tel-Aviv" at the end of January, which is a fantastic opportunity for early seed companies to get exposure, feedback and network with the seedcamp team. Please note: the winning teams have been chosen. You can view the list
here. Our Meetup Group has been given a limited number of places at the Seedcamp Cocktails on January 28th, during the evening hours. On Friday morning, January 30, our meetup is hosting coffee with the Seedcamp team and the founders of the Tel-Aviv University eClub at the Aroma cafe in Bet-HaTefoutzt. We hope you can join us and enjoy the opportunity to meet the Seedcamp team of mentors while networking with the winning teams and fellow entrepreneurs. Please follow our homepage for updates or last minute changes. To secure your spot - register to the
Friday event here:
http://www.meetup.com... Please note: this event is only open to hi-tech entrepreneurs and is not advised for service providers.

    1. We could not find anyone from seedcamp although they promised to meet us in our correspondence on the mail
    2. The event needs to be better organized - serve as an integrator and provide a better framework for effective participants' interactions.

i attended the cocktail. While people were speaking with each other, it would have been easier had there been brighter lighting! I spent enough time there to give advice to two companies ("WOW!! We never thought of that and no one ever mentioned this before!") before leaving.

I happened to seat myself next to a mentor whose time, I feel, could have been better spent if he'd spoken a max of 15-20 minutes to a number of campers. From what I overheard, after 40 minutes he never even mentioned that the start-up needed to patent their product before approaching VCs. When I jumped into the conversation and started to speak with one of the campers I told him this; he told me that the mentor had skipped this very important piece of info.

Of all the Meetup events I've been to so far, this was the only one that was a failure. Of the 125-odd who signed up on the Meetup site, perhaps 25 actually attended (it may even have been fewer). In fact, when I arrived, there were so few people there that I was asked if perhaps there had been a change of venue that hadn't been announced on the web site. Of the Seedcamp competitors, none whom I recognised took part. Only one of the Seedcamp staff/mentors, and a very junior person at that, bothered coming. This could have been a very good opportunity for the Meetup group's members to meet interesting and useful people from abroad (as well as the locally-based mentors), and except for the few people like myself who took part in the cocktail on Wednesday evening, this opportunity was lost. In short, Meetup did >not< meet Seedcamp, and both sides' organisers owe an apology to the people who turned up, giving up a Friday morning they could probably have used more enjoyably.

Where was everyone? 120+ people signed up, about 40 came over the course of 2 hrs, maybe 25 people were there at its peek. Where were the Seedcamp companies and mentors? I didn't see one of them (although someone told me one person from one of the 20 companies was there.) Come to think of it, where were the Meetup and Seedcamp organizers? I was calling people I know who are members of the group to ask if maybe the venue had changed last minute. Everyone who did show up was confused and disappointed -- although we did talk with each other and make some new contacts. Maybe Friday is a bad day for such an event, but the organizers should have made certain that there was a good showing by the Seedcamp companies, as this was the theme of the meetup.
