"David and Goliath: how supermassive black holes shaped today’s biggest galaxies"

The biggest galaxies in our Universe actually have far fewer stars than they should. Aurora Simionescu from the Netherlands Institute for Space Research, will explain where the rest of their atoms are hiding and how supermassive black holes keep them at bay.

Speaker's information:
Aurora is currently a "WISE" fellow, having been recently awarded the “women in science excel” grant from NWO to join the Netherlands Institute for Space Research as a staff member.
She also has an appointment as a visiting scientist at Leiden Observatory, and is an affiliate member of the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe at the University of Tokyo, Japan. You can probably tell from that long list that she is constantly bouncing around the globe and has what some friends like to call a very broad wave function. She’s back to Space Cafe Tokyo as a speaker for the third time, and still trying to keep it interesting for you all!
