Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of the ***Beloved Community***, this meetup brings people of diverse backgrounds together to connect, listen, and collaborate across differences. Through guided conversation, reflection, and practical next steps, we’ll explore how unity, justice, and compassion can move from ideals into everyday practice—in our neighborhoods, workplaces, and relationships. This is a welcoming space for honest dialogue, mutual respect, and collective hope. **The Beloved Community:** What does the concept of a "beloved community" mean to you, and how can we work towards creating it in our own neighborhoods? **Martin Luther King Jr's Beloved Community** is his vision for a global society built on justice, equity, peace, and unconditional love, where poverty, racism, and hatred are eliminated through nonviolent means and genuine human disconnectedness, fostering universal care and reconciliation. It's a realistic, achievable goal requiring individual transformation and collective action to resolve conflict peacefully and build a world where everyone belongs and thrives

This meetup is for Japanese learners who want to practice speaking in a relaxed, supportive environment without pressure or perfection. It's also a great place to meet people with similar interests! If you’ve studied vocabulary or grammar but freeze when it’s time to speak, this session is designed to help you bridge that gap. **What we'll do:** * Simple self-introductions in Japanese * Guided speaking prompts (you won’t be put on the spot) * Light pair or small-group practice * Optional review games or activities to support speaking Mistakes are expected and encouraged. You’re welcome to use notes, look things up, or listen more than you speak. **Who this is for:** * Beginner to early-intermediate learners * People who want to practice speaking without pressure * Anyone who feels like they “know the material” but struggles to use it No high-level Japanese required. Just come as you are.

Join us for a volunteer day helping the animals at Rosie's Farm Sanctuary in Potomac, MD. Before attending this event, you must sign a liability waiver. You will be working on big projects that require many volunteers like removing old bedding, sanitizing stals and replacing with new bedding, along with the daily clean up chores. Wear boots and clothing you don’t mind getting dirty. Feel free to bring a filled water bottle. On sunny days a brimmed hat and sunglasses may be helpful. Sunscreen is also suggested. Please do not bring any food or yummy-smelling items on your body or in your bag as our animals love to eat and are on special diets. Out of respect for the animals, we do not allow any food with animal products to be consumed at Rosie’s Farm Sanctuary. Please ensure that all edible items are plant-based (no dairy, no cheese, no cow’s milk ice cream, no meat, no fish, no eggs). Thank you for your cooperation and respect for this. It is very important to us. There is a gift shop where you can browse and warm up during the event. Please post your pictures and tag Rosie’s Farm Sanctuary and Rockville Vegans! We are limited to 30 volunteers, so please change your RSVP if you cannot attend. If there is interest, we may go out to eat in one of our local vegan restaurants afterward.

Our local amphibians and reptiles are both susceptible to habitat destruction and pollutants and can often be victims of being misunderstood. Join Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy for an introductory look at our local amphibians and reptiles, what our citizens can do to help protect their habitats, and what related programs are available through Loudoun Wildlife to help monitor populations and increase community awareness of these often overlooked and fragile species. This presentation takes place at Rust Library and is co-sponsored by the Loudoun County Public Library and Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy.
