The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese
The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese
**From the *New York Times*-bestselling author of *Cutting for Stone* comes a stunning and magisterial epic of love, faith, and medicine, set in Kerala, South India, following three generations of a family seeking the answers to a strange secret** Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, *The Covenant of Water* is set in Kerala, on India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala's Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time. From this unforgettable new beginning, the young girl—and future matriarch, Big Ammachi—will witness unthinkable changes over the span of her extraordinary life, full of joy and triumph as well as hardship and loss, her faith and love the only constants. A shimmering evocation of a bygone India and of the passage of time itself, *The Covenant of Water* is a hymn to progress in medicine and to human understanding, and a humbling testament to the hardships undergone by past generations for the sake of those alive today. Imbued with humor, deep emotion, and the essence of life, it is one of the most masterful literary novels published in recent years.

Confirmed - [Choose preferred out of 2 days] Tryout experience Argentinian Tango
Most dances are well represented in Utrecht, especially salsa/bachata/kizomba in the expat community. One of those exceptions is Argentinian tango, which (as many may know in the community), I've been dancing for a while now 😊 Maybe you had as a bucket list item to try a new dance out, or maybe you've seen others dance tango and you were curious to try it out, or perhaps you want to see what is this thing that I'm (constantly) talking about. In any of these cases, here's a chance to try out this wonderful dance or at least use the chance to have an outdoor get-together in a different setting than usual. This event is through the Utrecht Tango Cafe Milonga community (also organized by Constantinos) More info --> https://www.utrechtcafemilonga.com (We have group courses soon!) Essentials: \- There are 3 dates you can choose from\. 20th\, 24th\, 25th\. RSVP for the dates you could join\. with enough people \(in or out of meetup\)\, events are confirmed\. Of course I let you know in advance 😊 \- The meeting point is at Buurtcentrum Hoge Weide Laurierweg 104, 3541 RB Utrecht https://maps.app.goo.gl/hsbpUnfdPtE1VJSN7 \- The 25th Jan tryout is from 14:00 to 15:30 \- Completely free 😊 \(the event is being done to bring more people in the community\) \- You can come alone; ideally\, it's best to come with a dance partner \- Bring comfy shoes or \(ideally\) shoes you can pivot with If you have any further questions, feel free to message the host Depending on the time & weather, and whether people are up for it, follow-up drinks can always follow later that day. To those interested, I hope to see you there! 😄

Welkom! ❤️ Your host: Felicia The Clear Club. For the love of music

But let's be real, modern semantic search applications need *context* to interpret the real meaning and intent of a user's query. We could wait around for the next batch job to kick off and provide that context... *or* we could serve it up in near real-time right from our data streams. In this talk, we'll discuss how to leverage data streams from Kafka to power much smarter semantic search with Elasticsearch. We’ll follow a simple event from a Kafka topic and see how it transforms into a powerful vector embedding. Then, we’ll see this whole flow in action using a k-Nearest Neighbor search to instantly find similar items in milliseconds. While my code examples will be in Java or Kotlin using the Spring Boot and Spring AI ecosystem, FEAR NOT! The core concepts—getting data into a vector format via a stream—are totally language agnostic. Join us to grab a few practical ideas you can take and use in your next project!
