Timing: Saturday February 14, 2026, from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. Feel free to arrive anytime within this window. If you can’t make this date/time, feel free to send your contact information to my email below, and I will see if you might be able to be worked into a similar future event. Location: Braddock District Supervisor’s Office (their Braddock Hall). The address is 9002 Burke Lake Road, Burke, VA 22015. It’s in the same building as the Kings Park Library, but follow the signs for the Braddock District Supervisor office, which is around the back. There is plenty of free parking either around back by the District Supervisor’s office, or in the front by the library. Joyce and I will provide light snacks and refreshments. For many in the DMV region and nationwide, February 14 also marks one year since the first federal Reduction in Force (RIF) action, a moment that deeply impacted thousands of current and former federal workers, contractors, and their families. For decades, federal employees and contractors have served our nation with dedication, integrity, and a deep sense of purpose. Recent RIFs and government downsizing have brought sudden change, uncertainty, and emotional strain, impacting not only careers, but identity, stability, and well-being. While the year has brought loss and uncertainty for many, it has also revealed extraordinary resilience, reinvention, and inner strength. Join the Meditation Museum, a remarkable nonprofit dedicated to saving lives and strengthening communities rooted in resilience and perseverance, as we partner with RIF2RISE for a special Valentine’s Day gathering. Coffee is served w/ small donation. It is taught by the priest and/or OCIA director at St Louis Parish who are ALL fabulous- faithful educators filled with theologically inspired knowledge. This group is for anyone who wants to explore Buddhist meditation in a relaxed and supportive setting. Each session includes a short meditation, a simple teaching from Buddhist psychology, and an open discussion about how these ideas show up in everyday life. While our foundation is Buddhist practice, we love weaving in wisdom from other traditions whenever it helps us grow, find peace, and support each other. Members of our community come from many different backgrounds, and you do not need to consider yourself a Buddhist to attend. All are welcome. The session runs from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., with doors open from 6:30 to 9:00. Come early or stay after if you’d like to enjoy some quiet reflection or casual conversation with the community. On the first Wednesday of each month, we share a potluck meal. Bring a dish if you’d like, but the most important thing you can bring is yourself. We look forward to seeing you!

Join our partners Watermark Woods Native Plants, Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL), and Birch Tree Bookstore for the Read! Plant! Grow! Book Club, which focuses on native plants, sponsored by Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and LCPL. At this meeting we’ll discuss the book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. Both memoir and journalistic investigation, this book explores how the Kingsolver family took on a new challenge: to spend a year on a locally -produced diet, paying close attention to the provenance of all they consume. Concerned about the environmental, social, and physical costs of American food culture, they hoped to recover what Kingsolver considers our nation’’s lost appreciation for farms and the natural processes of food production.
