RBH invites you to a special community movie screening of Pearls of Peace, an inspiring documentary about endurance, reflection, and the power of peace. In 2024, at age 75, Lynn Salvo set a Guinness World Record as the oldest woman to bicycle across Europe from north to south—traveling from the Arctic Ocean to the Strait of Gibraltar. Over 95 days, she rode 4,330 miles through 12 countries, visiting and honoring sites that commemorate peace. Pearls of Peace follows Lynn’s extraordinary journey as she cycles through breathtaking landscapes, encounters wildlife and human companions, navigates mechanical and physical challenges, and meets inspiring people along the way. Through these experiences, the film explores the stories behind peace sites and reflects on our shared responsibility to care for our planet and one another. Lynn calls for resources spent on conflict to be redirected toward building peace and protecting our common home. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Lynn Salvo. The Hike route is about 7 miles with 460 feet of elevation. The Hike route is a loop consisting primarily of dirt trails. We will start at the Bike Lane Brewing &Café, at 11150 Sunset Hills, Reston VA 20190. The Bike Shop and Brewery is adjacent to Lake Fairfax Park and for those interested, we can enjoy a beer after the hike. You must be experienced with hikes of this length and elevation gain. We will be e-biking from Veirs Mill to Lake Needwood via Lake Bernard Frank and Meadowside Nature Center. The trail is around 17 miles. Toilets are available in the middle. It includes an optional half-mile excursion on foot to the Pioneer Homestead at Meadowside Nature Center. Please bring some snacks, lunch, and plenty of water. You can leave the bike at the nature center or stay with your e-bike. We will have bike guards if someone volunteers. After a short stop at the waterfall and Peirce Mill, we continue on the trail past the National Zoo, take the Zoo Loop, and follow the trail toward the Potomac. After an optional stop at the Georgetown Waterfront, we'll wind our way onto the Capital Crescent Trail going north. Then on to Fletcher's Boathouse for lunch in the park. After lunch we head north toward Bethesda, then make our way east through Chevy Chase and back to the Nature Center. The ride affords ample scenic vistas, multiple Kodak moments, and dare we say it, abundant E-Bike love. Please bring some snacks, lunch and plenty of water. Our bikes will be always in our sight.
