Mt Baw Baw Plateau/Walhalla camping weekend
Mt Baw Baw Plateau/Walhalla camping weekend
Join us on a weekend of hiking and camping in Gippsland. We will be camping on the Friday and Saturday night at **Seninis Campground, Moondarra State Forest.** This campground sits on a beautiful bend in the Tyers River, where you can float along in an inner tube. It has a toilet but no showers. Fires are allowed except during total fire bans. **Directions to the campground:** From Melbourne, take the Monash Freeway (M1) east toward Gippsland. Exit toward Moe/Trafalgar and follow Moe–Erica Road (C105) through Moe, past Trafalgar, and on toward Rawson. Moe-Erica Road becomes Moe-Rawson Road as you come to the turnoff for Seninis Track. I’ve booked for 6 Fine Diners to enjoy the Chef’s menu at $120 per person for dinner from 7pm on Friday 13 February - take a look at the menu here for more details: https://www.osteriailaria.com/#menu For those who like a wine pairing, there’s the option to add this for $95 on the night.
Join the waitlist to express interest. Once I have names in the waitlist, I’ll send you a ‘Meetup Message’ to confirm you have a spot and how to pay. You’ll need to send me $50 to secure your place (equivalent to the cancellation fee, this will be deducted from your bill when we settle up). Once paid I’ll move you from the waitlist to going. Please check that you don’t have your settings blocking messages; if I can’t contact you I’ll have to move on to the next person. Also if you don’t respond to my message within 3 days, I’ll let you know that I’m offering the seat to the next person on the waitlist.
Thanks and looking forward to trying Osteria Ilaria with you in Feb!

Thought Experiment: Closure (Valentines Day Special)
Thought Experiment: Closure (Valentines Day Special)
Ever wondered how humanity would respond to an asteroid heading for Earth? Or how the world might react to first contact with aliens? Welcome to **The Thought Experiment** — a new kind of meetup where we explore big *“What if…?”* scenarios in a fun but thoughtful way. Each session, we’ll pick one scenario (from global crises to wild sci-fi situations) and work together to imagine solutions, strategies, and possibilities. This is for **curious minds of all kinds** — students, professionals, creatives, or anyone who enjoys thinking differently. Some people might bring research, others just bring imagination. Either way, we’ll brainstorm together and see where the discussion takes us. [Thought Experiment Site](https://thoughtexperiment.au/) **We ask everyone to Buy a drink at the venue** **You Need to have Conversational English.** **This is a 3PM start event.** **Format:** * Quick intro to the scenario * Small-group discussions * Share back with the group * Wrap up + (optional) post-discussion drinks For our first meetup, we’ll introduce the format, get to know each other, and jump into a scenario together. ***Story Arc: Horrors of Consciousness*** Keywords: *Love, Unrequited Love, After Life* **Scenario: Closure** A Special Valentines Day Event. You remember meeting her. You remember her smile, not for how it looked, but for what it did to you. After that, things seemed to fall into place more easily than they should have. Nothing remarkable about the place. Only the certainty that something essential had quietly begun. You remember the love clearly. What’s harder to place is how little it asked of time. There were no obvious breaks. No moment where it failed. Only the sense, much later, that it never had to contend with anything else. How can a love like this be real, and why does that question feel dangerous? Oxford Scholar. Saturday 3–5 PM. A Small group. Big imagination. No right answers — just curiosity, debate, and fun.

Learn & Play Go-Stop, a Korean Card Game
*Thank you to everyone who came out to the inaugural meeting of Hwatu Hangout in January! It was a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing you all again and hopefully some new faces as well\~* 😊 **FOR BEGINNERS** If you've ever seen Korean movies or K-dramas, you may have seen characters play with small red cards decorated with flowers and animals. Those cards are called "hwatu" or flower cards. The most popular game played with hwatu is "Go-Stop". Come to this next Hwatu Hangout (Plum Blossom Edition!), and learn how to play this awesome game. It can take some time to orient yourself with the cards and rules, but once you do, there's no turning back. It's major fun. **FOR EXPERIENCED PLAYERS** No Tazza-style deck rigging or hand chopping. Most importantly, *no gambling*. We may play with plastic chips to raise the faux stakes, but that's it! If you'd like to skip the lesson/demo, then please arrive at 2p for game play. **THE PLAN** * **1:00p - 1:40p**: Learn how to play * **1:40p - 2:00p**: Demo Game * **2:00p - 4:00p**: Game play **THE LOCATION** We will be meeting again at Fairfax Wegmans on the 2nd Floor. You will find the stairs past the cafe/bakery/prepared foods section to the left of the building! **BEFORE ATTENDING** If you haven't already, please complete [this interest form](https://forms.gle/BNyZuZSZBzmDKQNA7). I will bring some hwatu decks, but please bring a deck if you have one. Questions? Send an email to hwatuhangout (at) gmail (dot) com Hope to see you there! Eunice

Winners' Circle Toastmasters
Winners' Circle Toastmasters
You love your home club - so do we! But do you sometimes feel that the evaluations you're receiving leave something to be desired? Do you wish you could get some ideas from more experienced presenters? Are you wanting to work on a presentation more than once, getting feedback as you develop it? Us, too! Winner's Circle is a more advanced Toastmaster club to meet the needs of the more advanced members in our area. If you want to fast-track your skill level, this might be the right club for you! (You don't need any particular designation to be in this club!) We meet at 6:30 for social time and dinner (yes, we bring potluck!) then start the actual meeting at 7:00. Regular meetings are the first and third Fridays at 7 p.m. in Ashburn. Call Cheryl at 703-707-0863 for location details and more info.
BreadBreakers Game Night
BreadBreakers Game Night
**Join the BreadBreakers community for an evening of connection and comradery over the timeless art of boardgaming!** BreadBreakers is a community where people of all different belief systems and backgrounds create community and have meaningful conversation. Usually we do that over the dinner table, but sometimes you've got to change it up a bit! Here's what to expect: * A kind, welcoming atmosphere and community * Several familiar, and several novel boardgames. * Snacks :) * We'll be gathering in Meeting Room 1 at the Reston Regional Library. * Feel free to bring a board game to share if you'd like! **I've never attended a BreadBreakers event before - what is BreadBreakers?** BreadBreakers is a community where neighbors from all different beliefs and backgrounds can **hear, be heard, and know one another.** Most frequently, we do this through the ancient practice of breaking bread around a common dining table. But we're more than just a discussion group - we're a movement to heal our world's broken discourse and forge togetherness in a time of isolation and loneliness. **Through the sacred act of just "being" together, we're working to rebuild the town square, one table (or game night) at a time.** BreadBreakers is a religiously inclusive by Restoration United Methodist Church in Reston, VA. All faiths, beliefs, and stripes are welcomed, and our leadership and community include people who attend Restoration and people who don't.
