**Talks:**
Lukas Zainzinger (willhaben)
***willhaben’s Journey to AWS MSK – A retrospective on Security, Costs, and Reality***
Migrating to managed services is rarely a plug-and-play experience. In this talk, we walk through Willhaben’s transition to Managed Kafka on AWS (MSK), sharing the authentic story of our integration rather than a textbook tutorial.
We will dive into the specific hurdles we faced, focusing on how we engineered solutions for strict security and access control requirements. Additionally, we’ll discuss the financial aspect—specifically the pricing issues we encountered and the adjustments we made to solve them. This isn't a lecture on the "one right way" to do things, but a transparent look at the decisions, challenges, and learnings we gathered along our own journey.
*Bio:*
Lukas joined willhaben as a Platform SRE in 2024, following a career path that transitioned from Application Management to specialized DevOps roles at Raiffeisen Informatik, Shöpping and Siemens. Throughout his journey, he has developed a deep expertise in Kubernetes, Terraform and multiple Cloud Providers, always with an eye toward improving developer experience and system reliability. Currently a Master’s student at Hochschule Burgenland, Lukas bridges the gap between academic cloud research and real-world infrastructure challenges. He is particularly passionate about leveraging cloud-native and managed services to build robust, fault-tolerant infrastructure.
David Hondl (Dynatrace)
***Monster-Sized Gitops; How to scale Argo CD***
Argo CD is one of the most popular and widely spread GitOps tools for Kubernetes and part of the backbone of many internal developer platforms.
Also Argo CD can undoubtedly be a beast - and a huge one at that, as anyone scaling it for a production environment has probably seen in one way or another. But what if simply having a massive installation is not enough for us? What if we want to go even bigger from here, raise it to beyond what we thought feasible? Create more Applications, more ApplicationSets and render more resources at the same time?
These are the questions that we will tackle in this talk.
We are going to take a look at the different Argo CD components, from the frontend to the K8s controllers and how they behave at scale. We will examine how far they can bend and especially when and how they will break. Based on what we find, we are going to figure out how to tweak these parts in just the right way.
And in the end we will hopefully be able to turn Argo CD into a bigger monster than it ever was.
*Bio:*
I'm a Cloud Engineer at Dynatrace and I'm super passionate about all things Platform Engineering and the cloud-native community. I use (and build) platforms to create better developer experiences and love to share my knowledge as a speaker as well as actively organize meetups around the topic.

Humming Traditions: SODAI - Straw, Form & Wind
An immersive workshop for adults, quiet hands, patient minds, and those who enjoy the slow rhythm of creation.
🌿Limited spots. The group is limited to 8 people. You can secure your place by purchasing a ticket through the link:
https://doobeedoo-goodies.sumupstore.com/produkt/humming-traditions-sodai-straw-form-and-wind
🌿Date: 18th of February
🌿Time: 18:30—20:30 (it might take longer, depending on group tempo)
🌿Location: DooBeeDoo Goodies Atelier (Märzstraße 86, 1150 Vienna)
Step into the gentle rhythm of creation and discover Sodai, traditional Lithuanian straw mobiles that once filled homes with balance, harmony, and quiet beauty. In this workshop, we will explore the geometry of air, learning how to prepare and string straw into delicate symmetrical forms that sway softly with every breeze. Piece by piece, your hands will follow the same patterns that generations before us used to invite order and peace into their homes.
You’ll learn the basic techniques of straw preparation, stringing, and construction, and experience how a simple natural material can transform into something light, precise, and full of meaning. Together, we’ll move through a calm, meditative process, each gesture connecting thought, breath, and creation in quiet balance.
By the end, you’ll leave not only with your own handmade Sodas, a timeless ornament carrying both heritage and your creative touch, but also with the knowledge, focus, and stillness that this ancient craft awakens. It feels less like finishing an object and more like completing a gentle ritual of patience and peace.
To keep the experience personal and attentive, the group will be small and intimate, space is limited, so that every participant can receive individual guidance and care.
This workshop invites you to slow down, focus, and reconnect — with your hands, your thoughts, and the quiet poetry of simple materials. No previous experience is needed, only patient hands, a calm mind, and an eye for quiet detail.
🌿🌿🌿
Humming Traditions is a series of creative workshops that explore the living, breathing essence of cultural practices. Each event invites participants to connect with ancient techniques, natural materials, and artistic expression in a hands-on, immersive experience.
The series celebrates the quiet resonance of tradition, the subtle vibrations, textures, and forms that have carried meaning through centuries. Whether through sound, movement, or craft, Humming Traditions is about experiencing culture as a living, dynamic, and tactile art form.
Each workshop stands on its own yet shares a common thread: creativity, mindfulness, and a connection to nature and heritage. Participants leave with newly learned skills, a calm mind, and a deeper appreciation for cultural artistry.

Somatic Movement Workshop
🧡🧡🧡

************
The Invitation 💌
This event is open to all who are interested in exploring their body through somatic movement.
What we will do:
✨ Release "stuck" tension in the shoulders, hips, and back.
✨ Quiet the mind by tuning into physical sensations.
✨ Reconnect with our body's natural energy.
You are encouraged to move in whatever way feels safe and nourishing for you! No prior experience required - it’s all about exploration, not finding the "right" way to move.
Practical Details
What to wear: Choose soft clothing that allows you to move freely. Layers are recommended as your body temperature may change during the practice.
Facilities: A dressing room is available for you to change your clothes.
Amenities: Please bring a water bottle. There is also a cafe in the building where you can enjoy tea, coffee, and snacks before or after the session.
Arrival: Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to change and settle into the space.
I’m so excited and happy to see you!

Wirklich sehen, hören, fühlen – Wie geschärfte Wahrnehmung Nähe ermöglicht
### **,,Wirklich sehen, hören, fühlen – Wie geschärfte Wahrnehmung Nähe ermöglicht''**
**Workshop für Sinne, Selbsterkenntnis & Beziehungstiefe**
***
* Achtsame Selbstwahrnehmung & ehrlicher Austausch in Kleingruppen
***

The Psychology and Personal Growth Circle: The Courage to Be Disliked
Welcome to our cozy **The Psychology and Personal Growth Circle** which is part of the Social Book Club!
We will meet to discuss the book “**The Courage to Be Disliked"** (288 pages) written by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga
The idea is to connect with like minded readers that love to grow and get to know themselves better through reading and especially applying knowledge from books.
We meet up once a month and talk about our progress applying knowledge from a certain book and our experience.
The event will take place at the volunteer organisation **MUT**.
It is an organisation to supports humans, animals and the environment especially in Vienna.
MUT or the Social Book Club look forward to some donation to cover the cost of this event.
If you would like to help, please bring some cash with you.
Book Description:
*The Courage to Be Disliked* shows you how to unlock the power within yourself to become your best and truest self, change your future and find lasting happiness. Using the theories of Alfred Adler, one of the three giants of 19th-century psychology alongside Freud and Jung, the authors explain how we are all free to determine our own future free of the shackles of past experiences, doubts and the expectations of others. It’s a philosophy that’s profoundly liberating, allowing us to develop the courage to change, and to ignore the limitations that we and those around us can place on ourselves.
See you then!
All the best
Sebastian

Native Plant Book Club: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
Join our partners Watermark Woods Native Plants, Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL), and Birch Tree Bookstore for the Read! Plant! Grow! Book Club, which focuses on native plants, sponsored by Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and LCPL. At this meeting we’ll discuss the book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. Both memoir and journalistic investigation, this book explores how the Kingsolver family took on a new challenge: to spend a year on a locally -produced diet, paying close attention to the provenance of all they consume. Concerned about the environmental, social, and physical costs of American food culture, they hoped to recover what Kingsolver considers our nation’’s lost appreciation for farms and the natural processes of food production.
You can either buy the book from Birch Tree Bookstore or contact Allison Forbes at [Allison.forbes@loudoun.gov](mailto:Allison.forbes@loudoun.gov) to borrow a copy of the book at the library. There are two ways to participate: attend the event online via the library website or [sign up to participate in person at Birch Tree Bookstore](https://www.birchtreebookstore.com/event-details/read-plant-grow-2026-02-24-18-30).

Please ensure that all edible items are plant-based (no dairy, no cheese, no cow’s milk ice cream, no meat, no fish, no eggs). Thank you for your cooperation and respect for this. It is very important to us.
There is a gift shop where you can browse and warm up during the event.
Please post your pictures and tag Rosie’s Farm Sanctuary and VSDC! Stick around at the end for a group photo behind the barn.
If there is interest, we may go out to eat in one of our local vegan restaurants afterward.
We are limited to 30 volunteers, so please change your RSVP if you cannot attend.
