*“A victim of downsizing at the paper mill where he has worked for many years, middle manager Man-Soo (Lee Byung-hun) finds himself cast adrift in an unforgiving job market; with bills piling up and his house in danger of foreclosure, he is forced into a drastic course of action when a choice role becomes available at a rival paper mill. Aware that newly unemployed erstwhile contemporaries will also be competing for the job, Man-Soo must do whatever it takes to increase his chances of securing the role, though it soon becomes apparent that he is ill-suited to the grim task at hand. The latest from Park (The Handmaiden, Oldboy) sees the director apply his signature visual dynamism and droll humour to an adaptation of Donald Westlake’s acclaimed 1997 Novel, The Ax.”* A little bit of extra to watch if you wish: [Director Park Chan-wook - Satirizing Capitalism in “No Other Choice” | The Daily Show](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj0N63qglbI)

Dear fellow Gaeilgeoiri,
Cead mile failte / a warm welcome to this group of Irish language lovers and enthusiasts. Hope you will enjoy everything it has to offer and feel free to suggest new events, and, why not step in as an event organizer?
What this group is not:
- A group limited to those with perfect proficiency in the language, where any single word of English is banned, and where you will get corrected for every séimhiú that, God forbid, you might be forgetting
What this group is:
- A forum of Gaeilge enthusiasts willing to share their interest and love of the language. We all started learning a language, including our own, from scratch at some point in our lives. Absolute beginners are welcome and should not feel intimidated. Near perfect and native Irish speakers are also welcome to share their vast knowledge of the language. Hopefully this will create a thriving community of lovers of the language at any level.

Let’s play... Mothership / Eldritch Defenders
Join us every Sunday and tell a story as a group by playing a beginner-friendly roleplaying game. Every week we have 2-3 different games. All materials provided and rules are explained at the start of each game, you just need to bring your imagination.
🎭 **This week's facilitators:**
* 🚀 **Wojtek** continues our unofficial *Mothership* month with *Another Bug Hunt*. The colonists on Samsa-VI have lost contact with the Company. But they've gained contact with something else. The players' crew must re-establish communications with a remote terraforming colony. However, when they arrive they find an abandoned colony and the remains of a bloody assault...
* 🧚♀️ **Emil** bringing court into session with *Eldritch Defenders*, in which you'll play public attorneys defending supernatural beings from legal jeopardy. The Eldritch Defenders law firm takes on the unnavigable cases and bureaucracies of infernal realms, faerie oaths and the machinations of the darkness. Also the more mundane things, such as what happens when a ghost owes a debt that doesn't technically terminate when they did.

📚 Books & Social 🍸
📚Reading books and discussing them are two distinct experiences! Conversations about books and sharing insights help us better appreciate literature and enrich our lives.
Let's grab a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and discuss books we're currently reading or have recently enjoyed—whether poetry, fiction, or non-fiction. Bring your physical book or e-reader.
There's no formal structure or agenda—just books and good conversation.💬
It's a perfect place to get book recommendations and rediscover your reading momentum if you've hit a slump. We welcome readers of all backgrounds and interests!
⚠️**Something Happened?**
If something unpleasant happened to you, it may happen to others. Even if it seems minor, don't hesitate to reach out to me.
🔍 **How to find us?**
* When I reach the venue, I'll leave a comment in the meetup where the group is seated. Normally, the booking is in my name, so you can ask the staff for the group.
* If you're unable to find us, leave a comment in the meetup page. I'll be able to guide you.
We highly encourage you to move between tables and strike up conversations with fellow book lovers. These discussions about literature and reading recommendations are often the highlight of the event!
As an organizer, I'm always looking for feedback about the event and suggestions for new events, so feel free to suggest ideas to me. 💡
I look forward to seeing you all! 😊
Dept. of Speculation by Jenny Offill
This group is all about hosting a monthly in-person book club right here in Dublin City!
If you're into the book we're reading and want to chat about it with others, this is the perfect spot for you. We'll meet for about 1-2 hours, enjoy some drinks and/or food, and dive into the book of the month—sharing our thoughts, exploring themes, and swapping recommendations for future reads.
We suggest a €2 voluntary contribution per person to help cover MeetUp fees (cash or Revolut works). See you there!
The Literati Dublin

Please feel free to bring books :)

Despite his firm resolve to turn his life around, Man-su spends over a year drifting from one job interview after another, and working at a retail store. He eventually finds himself in danger of losing the very house that he struggled so hard to buy. Desperate, he visits Moon Paper out of the blue and tries to hand over his CV, but he just ends up getting humiliated by line manager Choi Sun-chul (Park Hee Soon). February Book Club Meetup: Doppelganger by Naomi Klein
Join us for a thought-provoking conversation as we discuss ***Doppelganger: A Trip into the Mirror World* by Naomi Klein**
Here's the summary:
What if you woke up one morning and found you’d acquired another self―a double who was almost you and yet not you at all? What if that double shared many of your preoccupations but, in a twisted, upside-down way, furthered the very causes you’d devoted your life to fighting against?
Not long ago, the celebrated activist and public intellectual Naomi Klein had just such an experience―she was confronted with a doppelganger whose views she found abhorrent but whose name and public persona were sufficiently similar to her own that many people got confused about who was who. Destabilized, she lost her bearings, until she began to understand the experience as one manifestation of a strangeness many of us have come to know but struggle to define: AI-generated text is blurring the line between genuine and spurious communication; New Age wellness entrepreneurs turned anti-vaxxers are scrambling familiar political allegiances of left and right; and liberal democracies are teetering on the edge of absurdist authoritarianism, even as the oceans rise. Under such conditions, reality itself seems to have become unmoored. Is there a cure for our moment of collective vertigo?
Naomi Klein is one of our most trenchant and influential social critics, an essential analyst of what branding, austerity, and climate profiteering have done to our societies and souls. Here she turns her gaze inward to our psychic landscapes, and outward to the possibilities for building hope amid intersecting economic, medical, and political crises. With the assistance of Sigmund Freud, Jordan Peele, Alfred Hitchcock, and bell hooks, among other accomplices, Klein uses wry humor and a keen sense of the ridiculous to face the strange doubles that haunt us―and that have come to feel as intimate and proximate as a warped reflection in the mirror.
Combining comic memoir with chilling reportage and cobweb-clearing analysis, Klein seeks to smash that mirror and chart a path beyond despair. Doppelganger What do we neglect as we polish and perfect our digital reflections? Is it possible to dispose of our doubles and overcome the pathologies of a culture of multiplication? Can we create a politics of collective care and undertake a true reckoning with historical crimes? The result is a revelatory treatment of the way many of us think and feel now―and an intellectual adventure story for our times.
