January Meet: Educating aspiring audio devs and a agentic audio plugin framework
January Meet: Educating aspiring audio devs and a agentic audio plugin framework
Save the date: on 13th January we will host the next iteration of our monthly Audio Developer Meetup where **Jan Wilczek** from WolfSound and **Oli Larkin** from iPlug/Ableton will be giving talks. See below! As always, there will be a chance to network over drinks and pizza. Anyone interested in Audio development is welcome! Doors open at 18:00, talks start at 18:15. Please note: Attendance is **strictly limited** to people who have RSVP'd. You will receive further instructions on how to attend once RSVP'd. Talk details: **From Zero to Hero in Audio Programming: Building an Education Business in the Audio Space** \- Jan Wilczek “How do I get a programming job at an audio plugin company?”—that’s the question that I get most often (maybe apart from “Are you German?”). To beginners, the audio industry appears to be an inclusive, invite-only community of privileged people who can do what they love every day: write code that processes sound. Regardless of whether that’s true, there’s a lot we can do to make audio development more accessible, benefiting both insiders and outsiders. This talk will show you how you can: * leverage your existing experience to raise your competitive advantage on the audio development job market * improve your learning process to sharpen your coding skills * position yourself as an expert in the field and helping others at the same time * enter the audio industry if you’re just starting out * accelerate your audio development career Since the talk won’t be very technical, it is suitable for beginners and industry veterans alike. Jan is an audio programming consultant and educator, the creator of [TheWolfSound blog](https://thewolfsound.com/) and [YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/c/WolfSoundAudio) dedicated to audio programming. He is the author of "[DSP Pro," an online course on digital audio signal processing](https://www.wolfsoundacademy.com/dsp-pro), and a co-author of the [official JUCE audio plugin development course](https://www.wolfsoundacademy.com/juce). He also offers coaching and software development services related to audio plugins and audio software. Jan works from home in Katowice, Poland. **iPlug3 - A modern cross platform audio plug-in framework for the agentic era** \- Oli Larkin In this short talk Oli Larkin will give a sneak peak of his latest audio plug-in framework, a green field project designed for the latest AI coding tools. Oli Larkin is a software engineer at Ableton where he works on a team bringing machine learning features to Live, including sound similarity and most recently stem separation. He's also a prolific contributor to open-source audio projects over the last 20 years, and is passionate about spatial audio and XR. He has worked with many artists in this domain. He has developed his own successful audio plug-in products (VirtualCZ, Endless Series), as well as working with brands such as Arturia, Focusrite and Roli on well known products. Oli maintains iPlug2 (and before that WDL-OL) which many other developers use to realize their projects. He is the co-author of the original WebAudioModules v1 (2015), and with the work he presents today, hopes to continue this tradition of innovation in the audio plug-in space.

#28 AI Series: ETH Zürich - J. Hübotter
#28 AI Series: ETH Zürich - J. Hübotter
We are excited to feature **Jonas Hübotter**, who is currently a PhD student at **ETH Zürich** and will discuss "**Test-Time Training Agents for Deep Exploration**", lasting approximately 45 minutes. After the talk, seize the opportunity to connect with fellow AI enthusiasts to share ideas and questions while enjoying free drinks and pizza. **Door close by 7.15pm, so please come early! Also, "attend"ing (RSVP) here on Meetup is strictly necessary to be guaranteed entry.** Please note that Meetup has recently been quite keen on promoting its Plus program. However, you are not obligated to purchase it, as both our events and the platform remain free. **Who is this event for?** This event is open to everyone interested in state-of-the-art AI research. We especially design it for students, PhD candidates, academic researchers, and industry professionals with a research focus in machine learning. **Abstract**: The standard paradigm of machine learning separates training and testing. Training aims to learn a model by extracting general rules from data, and testing applies this model to new, unseen data. We study an alternative paradigm where the model is trained at test-time specifically for the given task. We investigate why such test-time training can effectively specialize a model to individual tasks. Further, we demonstrate that such test-time training enables models to continually improve and eventually solve challenging tasks, which are out of reach for the initial model. **Bio**: [Jonas](https://jonhue.github.io/) is a PhD student in the Learning and Adaptive Systems Group at ETH Zurich, advised by Andreas Krause. His research focuses on test-time training and reinforcement learning, with broader interests in probabilistic inference, optimization, and online learning. He received an MSc in Theoretical Computer Science and Machine Learning from ETH Zurich, where he was awarded the ETH Medal, and a BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics from the Technical University of Munich. His work has been published at NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, and COLM. We are [BLISS](https://bliss.berlin/) e.V., the **AI** **organization** in Berlin that **connects like-minded individuals** who share great interest and passion for the field of machine learning. This winter 2025/26, we will, again, host an exciting speaker series on site in Berlin, featuring excellent researchers from Tübingen AI Center, DeepMind, Microsoft, King's College London, cohere, and ETH Zürich. Speaker's bio: Software Engineer and Builder. Previous accomplishments include contributing to open source, providing technical direction, and sharing knowledge about Code and Architecture. An empathetic team player and mentor. Azerbaijan Python User Group Leader. Former QA Engineer and Bug Hunter. 7:35 pm - break 8:05 pm – Can you trust your (large language) model? // Jodie Burchell Machine learning algorithms are marvellous things: models that can do a bunch of tedious and complex tasks for us, all with a high degree of accuracy. But how do we really know whether the outputs of machine learning models are correct? This question is not as simple to answer as we might think. As we move into an age where “black box” models, particularly LLMs, are becoming more and more commonly used, it becomes even more essential, and at the same time, difficult and complicated, to be able to assess model performance accurately. In this talk, we’ll explore ways in which our models can lie to us, and how we might be able to peer through this confusion to get at the truth. Speaker's bio: Dr. Jodie Burchell is the Developer Advocate in Data Science at JetBrains, and was previously a Lead Data Scientist at Verve Group Europe. She completed a PhD in clinical psychology and a postdoc in biostatistics, before leaving academia for a data science career. She has worked for 9 years as a data scientist in both Australia and Germany, developing a range of products including recommendation systems, analysis platforms, search engine improvements and audience profiling. She has held a broad range of responsibilities in her career, doing everything from data analytics to maintaining machine learning solutions in production. She is a long time content creator in data science, across conference and user group presentations, books, webinars, and posts on both her own and JetBrain's blogs. 9:30 - closing This event will be only in-person. Please check our Code of Conduct and official health regulation in Berlin before coming. If you feel some signs of sickness, please consider skipping this event and attending another time. We will have plenty of events in different formats in the future. Looking forward seeing you all!

NOVA Code & Coffee [160] - At FCED Venue
NOVA Code and Coffee is an inclusive, informal, co-working session. People of all skill levels are invited. The concept is simple, bring a laptop and ideas, we'll provide the coffee and donuts! Here's how it works: 1. At 10:15 everyone introduces themselves and briefly describes what brought them to Code & Coffee today (project, homework, networking, etc) 2. For the rest of the day, folks work in the communal space on their projects providing one another help and conversation as needed. Oh and they usually drink coffee and tea too! That's it! Hope to see you there! **Location** Our hosts are the Fairfax City Economic Development Building: [10300 Eaton Pl, Fairfax, VA 22030](https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=d7298231ca2df594df822003f9a93517c788fceefe1fcbb79c8976696e341bc6JmltdHM9MTc1MzIyODgwMA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=4&fclid=180d0745-3b7f-69a1-23a2-11433a7868e5&u=a1L21hcHM_Jm1lcGk9MTA5fn5Ub3BPZlBhZ2V-QWRkcmVzc19MaW5rJnR5PTE4JnE9RmFpcmZheCUyMENpdHklMjBFY29ub21pYyUyMERldmVsb3BtZW50JnNzPXlwaWQuWU44NzN4ODI4MTk2Mjg0NTk5MDM4MTU0MiZwcG9pcz0zOC44NjE0NDYzODA2MTUyMzRfLTc3LjMwMjE3NzQyOTE5OTIyX0ZhaXJmYXglMjBDaXR5JTIwRWNvbm9taWMlMjBEZXZlbG9wbWVudF9ZTjg3M3g4MjgxOTYyODQ1OTkwMzgxNTQyfiZjcD0zOC44NjE0NDZ-LTc3LjMwMjE3NyZ2PTImc1Y9MSZGT1JNPU1QU1JQTA&ntb=1) Conference Room A- Large, Floor 1 This is a new venue for us, so give us some time to get more details about it. Reston Happy Hour: Scaling Cloud Infrastructure for Heavy Workloads
Reston Happy Hour: Scaling Cloud Infrastructure for Heavy Workloads
Gaming, AdTech, EdTech, Media Streaming, and FinTech are just a few of the workloads where high-availability cloud infrastructure matters. Whether you’re doing battle daily in one of these spaces or are just curious about ways to improve performance, meet us in Reston for an in-person discussion on bare metal cloud architecture. You’ll meet our product lead, James MacKenzie, who will walk through how modern bare metal serves as a control plane for hybrid and private cloud architectures. **What we will cover** * Ways to leverage bare metal, containers, and orchestration for better performance and predictable economics; * Real-world hybrid, disaster recovery, and data-intensive architectures; * Our approach to eliminating ingress and egress fees. **Who should attend** * Cloud architects and platform engineers; * DevOps professionals and infrastructure leads; * FinOps stakeholders managing data-heavy or hybrid workloads. **Why attend** This is a technical, architecture-first conversation. You will leave with a clearer understanding of high-availability cloud infrastructure and how organizations are scaling cost-effectively. Food and drinks will be provided. Space is limited to keep the discussion interactive.
