Single Party in Wien mal anders

**Do you speak English? Then welcome to Walk & Talk!** This event is suited for all people who like to connect to other people and like to walk. The beauty of this regular event is that you are in the nature and you walk around 7 kilometers. In the meantime, if you feel for it, you talk, if not, you just walk. You do something for your health, get to know new people and you will feel much better. It’s FREE, all you need to do is to show up this Tuesday at no later than 1 pm at the U6 Spittelau exit to Donaukanal.

At the next Gründerio Meetup, three entrepreneurs will talk openly about their everyday lives between entrepreneurship and family. This panel is not about perfect solutions, but about real experiences: * What works well? * Where does it get challenging? * Which decisions help in everyday life – and which ones don't? Together, we will talk about expectations, feelings of guilt, role models, flexibility, and how self-employment and family can be reconciled on an individual basis. **Joining us are:** * Maggy Müller \| Founder of Vienna Picnics * Gloria Sonn\-Wende \| Founder of Sonn\-Wende Consulting * Philipp Doblhoff \| Serial entrepreneur & co\-founder of Gründerio 🤝 **Exchange:** Connect with like-minded people in a relaxed atmosphere, exchange ideas, and learn from the experiences of others. 🍹 **Chilled Atmosphere:** We want you to feel comfortable and enjoy yourself. Movie Night: Youth
Movie Night: Youth
READ EVERYTHING! Please check this Activity on the day of the event (rain etc.)! Be polite and CANCEL if you are not attending!! *** **Hello everyone!** Join me for Paolo Sorrentino's movie "Youth", screened in English. *** ### 🎬[ The Feature Film: ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T7CM4di_0c)*[Youth](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T7CM4di_0c)*[ (La giovinezza)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T7CM4di_0c) A beautiful, funny and sad movie: Paolo Sorrentino’s Academy Award-nominated masterpiece, ***Youth***: Set within the breathtaking vistas of a luxury spa in the Swiss Alps, the film is a visually stunning meditation on time, memory, and the enduring spark of creativity. It follows two lifelong friends—Fred Ballinger (**Michael Caine**), a renowned retired composer, and Mick Boyle (**Harvey Keitel**), an aging film director—as they navigate the complexities of their legacies during a summer retreat. *Youth* is celebrated for its **aesthetic decadence and philosophical depth**. Much like a fine *Réserve* wine, the film invites you to linger on the details: the symphony of nature, the elegance of a perfectly composed shot, and the quiet power of "Simple Songs." It explores the delicate balance between looking back at the past and finding the "liberty" that belongs to the future. 💶 **Entry Fee:** **BASIC MEMBERS: 5€ in cash** **SILVER MEMBERS: 3€ in cash** (includes a welcome **glass of Wine** 🥂) Join me on this little adventure! Discussion: Does Explanation Kill Wonder?
Discussion: Does Explanation Kill Wonder?
***Does understanding the world make it richer or does it drain something essential from it?*** In this first session of **Marginal Thoughts**, we’ll explore that question through three short and very different works: * A short story by Italo Calvino: ["The Distance of the Moon"](https://www.ruanyifeng.com/calvino/2007/07/ch_1_the_distance_of_the_moon.html) (\~40 min read) * An animated clip of Richard Feynman's ["Ode To A Flower"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSG9q_YKZLI) (\~1 min) * A poem by Walt Whitman: ["When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer"](https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45479/when-i-heard-the-learnd-astronomer) (\~1 min) Along the way, we'll see Calvino anticipate the dating trend of *'orbiting'* and take it very literally, Feynman may or may not ruin flowers for us, and Whitman will demonstrate that rage-quitting an astronomy lecture can still produce poetry. **How to prepare** Please read/watch the materials in advance. As you do, try to identify at least one point of curiosity, confusion, or uncertainty - these will be natural starting points for our discussion. **What to expect** This is an in-person, conversational meetup. The goal isn't to debate, lecture, or "confess" - it’s to explore ideas and leave with better questions than we arrived with. **Optional context for the extra curious** Calvino's story opens his collection [Cosmicomics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmicomics). The Feynman clip comes from the BBC interview ["The Pleasure of Finding Things Out"](https://vimeo.com/340695809). And here's an honorable mention to Borges' poem ["The Moon"](https://dprbcn.wordpress.com/2011/12/12/the-moon-jorge-luis-borges/) which narrowly lost out to Whitman's.
How Real Is Reality? Going Beyond the Five Senses
How Real Is Reality? Going Beyond the Five Senses
**The Mysteries of Non-Duality, Spirituality, and Metaphysics** **Only 5% of the universe is composed of normal matter,** yet we often dedicate 100% of our focus and attention to it. This creates an **illusion of separateness** where we believe we are alone and that when our material body dies, that's the end. We even term this physical substance "matter" because we believe it's all that truly matters. In contrast, **95% of our universe consists of energies and a mysterious void** that actually governs our universe, bodies, experiences, and lives. This non-material universe is also known as the **spiritual universe**. As we delve into this spiritual dimension, we start to see how all things are interconnected. **Imagine the ocean and two waves approaching the shore**. One exclaims, "My God, we're going to crash at the shore, we're going to die!" The other responds, "No! You cannot die. You are part of the ocean!" Like the waves, we simultaneously are individuals and part of a greater whole. Yet, most of us are (no longer) aware of this. Opening up, moving beyond our wave-like limitations, and recognizing our unity with the ocean can change everything. It makes life much easier, more enjoyable, and fulfilling. **Agenda:** * Introduction to Non-Duality, Spirituality, and Metaphysics: We will watch videos covering different aspects and explanations of reality, non-duality, etc. * Sharing of questions and thoughts. * Conclusions and how to apply this understanding to your life (if you wish). **You are invited to join** a somewhat mystical workshop exploring the timeless wisdom of the universe. We'll dive into spirituality, non-duality, metaphysics, and the interconnectedness of all things to uncover deeper personal fulfillment and an understanding of life. Whether you're new to these topics or a seasoned practitioner, this event is the perfect opportunity to explore, learn, and grow. Come with an open mind and leave feeling inspired and more connected to a community passionate about these intriguing subjects. No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, this event can offer surprising and important insights about yourself that you may have never considered before. **Important:** We don't have to agree on everything. This isn't about proving someone wrong, but rather about learning from each other, providing mutual inspiration, hearing different perspectives, and evolving to live a life we love. **Sign Up Now.** **Deepen Your Understanding of the New Consciousness:** Intuition is replacing intellect as our primary decision-making guide. This new consciousness transcends the limitations of the five senses. It is beyond the five senses. **See What Is Possible.** Dieter Langenecker PS: A contribution of € 15,- for room rent, coffee/tea, and cookies will be collected. **Watch this short video:** https://youtu.be/oDIeSXdBhSo?si=UETKdXHAi4Dzr9u6

Native Plant Book Club: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
Join our partners Watermark Woods Native Plants, Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL), and Birch Tree Bookstore for the Read! Plant! Grow! Book Club, which focuses on native plants, sponsored by Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and LCPL. At this meeting we’ll discuss the book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. Both memoir and journalistic investigation, this book explores how the Kingsolver family took on a new challenge: to spend a year on a locally -produced diet, paying close attention to the provenance of all they consume. Concerned about the environmental, social, and physical costs of American food culture, they hoped to recover what Kingsolver considers our nation’’s lost appreciation for farms and the natural processes of food production. You can either buy the book from Birch Tree Bookstore or contact Allison Forbes at [Allison.forbes@loudoun.gov](mailto:Allison.forbes@loudoun.gov) to borrow a copy of the book at the library. There are two ways to participate: attend the event online via the library website or [sign up to participate in person at Birch Tree Bookstore](https://www.birchtreebookstore.com/event-details/read-plant-grow-2026-02-24-18-30). ***Questions:*** *Contact [info@loudounwildlife.org](mailto:info@loudounwildlife.org)*.

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Satanic Panics
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Satanic Panics
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“Satanic Panics,”** a look at waves of fear of demonic activity as an American tradition, with Luxx Mishou, cultural historian and former instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy and area community colleges. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-satanic-panics2](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-satanic-panics2) .] The 1980s found the United States gripped by fear of Satanic cults targeting children. They were believed to be corrupting young ones in daycare centers and tempting teens through subliminal messages on heavy metal albums or through the quiet inclusion of demonic rituals in role-playing games. Satanic serial killers supposedly stalked the suburbs. Doctors helped patients uncover what were claimed to be repressed memories of ritualistic satanic abuse. Parents, police, and politicians were urged to protect impressionable youths from both moral and physical danger. With Satanic cults deemed to be a real and material threat, it was a frightening time for everyone, including those who suddenly came under suspicion for doing evil deeds. Then, suddenly, it all faded from public consciousness, just as surely as did eighties fads such mullet haircuts, leg warmers, and Cabbage Patch Kids. Why did it all start? Why did it stop? And has this happened before or since? Hear such questions tackled by Luxx Mishou, a cultural historian and media specialist who has long researched the devious and villainous in cultural artifacts. She’ll discuss moral panics as a longstanding cultural tradition, with each new one stemming from fear of cultural shifts and shaped by the time and place where it occurred. Among the panics we’ll look into are the Red Scare of the 1950s and the public response to the gruesome 1969 murders committed by the Manson Family. Delving into the 1980s panic, Mishou will describe how it began with the 1980 publication of psychiatrist Lawrence Pazder’s memoir *Michelle Remembers*, detailing the suppressed memories of ritualistic abuse reportedly suffered by a patient. As that book quickly became a best seller, its ideas saturated American culture. A California daycare center became the focus of a three-year investigation, followed by three years of trials, based on allegations that its owner had engaged in secret ritualistic abuse of the children in its care. Mishou will lead you through the media that convinced the public that devil worshipers were among them, and she’ll talk about how reactions to imagined threats can have very real social costs. Korean/English Language Exchange
Korean/English Language Exchange
안녕하세요 여려분! Welcome to our Meetup series for Korean/English Language Exchange. These meetups will be intended for serious language learners who are at least at a conversational level in the language they wish to practice. We'll have a variety of activities targeted at fostering some significant practice time and perhaps have a little bit of cultural exchange along the way. For this Meetup, we ask that you make a decision with your RSVP by 10 AM the day of the meetup, so as to give others a chance to attend if you can't make it. For this session: We're returning to a favorite food hall of ours in H Mart in Fairfax! For the first half hour or so, as people gather and find food/seats, talk freely to each other and try to introduce yourself with everyone in the language you're practicing or catch up if you with friends you know! Once everyone gets settled into groups, take turns at the table allowing everyone to answer the following prompts: **Prompt #1:** TBD **Prompt #2**: TBD After the activity above, feel free to continue practicing in conversation as you wish, but if so inclined, try one of the activities below: A.) Two truths and a lie about (fill in the blank)......decide as a group on a topic for group play and have each person take turns giving two true statements and one false statement in any order and allow others to guess which statement is false B.) Word association......start by naming a common word and go around the table as long as you can with each person giving a word (in the language that you're practicing) that is COMMONLY associated with the previous word given. If the group calls you out, be ready to defend your answer. C.) Story time.......start off telling the first sentence of a story and go around the table letting each person add a line to the story until you reach the end...or a breaking point. D.) Ditto.......Each player will need to be able to write on paper or an electronic device for this one. Have one person pick a category of common nouns (ex. vegetables, sports equipment, things you see at the circus, etc.) and have another person pick a starting consonant (or vowel, if playing in English). Allow two minutes for everyone to write down as many nouns that both fit the selected category and start with the selected consonant/vowel. When two minutes are up, compare and contrast your answers. Whoever has the most matches wins. For further challenge, try playing the inverse way to achieve unique answers rather than matches. Another adventure may break out afterwards if the group is so inclined. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- If you have Instagram, you can check out our account at asiandiningandadventuregroup for photos and announcements of group outings!
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Hidden Cleopatra
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Hidden Cleopatra
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“The Hidden Cleopatra,”** an excavation through myth and slander to uncover the real Egyptian queen, with Jacquelyn Williamson, an Egyptologist and associate professor of archaeology and ancient art at George Mason University. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/hidden-cleopatra](https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/hidden-cleopatra) .] Depictions of Cleopatra are abundant in popular culture. A long list of painters have depicted her, Marilyn Monroe and Kim Kardashian have posed as her, and Vivien Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor famously portrayed her in Hollywood films. At the end of the day, however, what most of us think we know about Cleopatra is wrong, the product of the ancient Rome’s “fake news” and anti-Egypt propaganda. Learn about the real Cleopatra—and how our understanding of her came to be so distorted—with Professor Jacquelyn Williamson, scholar of women and power in ancient Egypt, teacher of courses on ancient Egyptian art and archaeology, and author of *Nefertiti’s Sun Temple: A New Cult Complex at Tell el-Amarna.* Dr. Williamson will walk us through how the first Roman emperor, Octavian, created the distorted image of Cleopatra as seductress that we know today as part of his political scheming to defeat his rival Antony and end the Roman Republic once and for all. Cleopatra has been the subject of debate and controversy ever since. William Shakespeare later relied on ancient Roman sources such as Horace and Plutarch in writing *Antony and Cleopatra*, and his play helped give rise to countless other works offering a distorted picture of her. Professor Williamson argues that “Cleopatra was a human being, like you and I,” and “deserves the dignity of being represented as accurately as possible.” Her efforts to set the record straight have met frustration, however—after being extensively interviewed for the recent Netflix historical docuseries Queen Cleopatra, she concluded that it, too, had missed the mark. You’ll gain a much deeper appreciation of the challenges of researching and accurately depicting the ancient past from Dr. Williamson, who also has taught at Harvard, Brandeis, and the University of California at Berkeley and is involved with an ongoing archaeological investigation of Queen Nefertiti’s sun temple. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.)
