After Work Wednesday's!
After Work Wednesday's!
Get over the mid week slump and come down to meet some new faces and relax. We try and go to a different bar every week and you can join us anytime after 18:30. **How to find the group?** \*We have an area reserved just for us so if you are new and unsure please ask any of the bar staff for the area reserved under the organisers name or if completely lost on the night please contact the event host and they'll come and find you. **How does it work?** \*After finding the group either the organiser will approach you and ask if you are looking for the meetup or you can just ask anyone "Is this the meetup?" and normally that is a great conversation opener to join the group. After that it's up to you what you make of the event. That is pretty much it. Easy right? We normally encourage people to stand as it's much easier to mingle that way. **Nervous about coming to the event?** \*While it's quite intimidating meeting a bunch of strangers from the internet we are a very welcoming group. We normally look out for new people and remember that everyone in the group has been new in the group at one point. If are you'd like extra help just contact the event host on the night. **Interested in helping out?** \*Let me (Éamonn) know as it would be greatly appreciated. **Something happened?** \*Please report it to the organiser as we cannot do anything to prevent it from happening again if we don't know about it. Even if it's something small please let the organiser know as they are probably unaware. We aim to have the location up by Monday afternoon before the event. The bars we go to are all based in the city centre. **See you on Wednesday!**
Scaling Reinsurance Compliance: The Engineering Behind PartnerRe’s "Overlay"
Scaling Reinsurance Compliance: The Engineering Behind PartnerRe’s "Overlay"
To meet regulatory standards like Solvency II and LDTI, reinsurance firms must simulate how thousands of insurance policies perform under thousands of potential economic futures. In data terms, this creates a **"Cartesian explosion"**—multiplying two manageable datasets creates a result set of billions of rows. This massive computational workload frequently overwhelms traditional on-premise infrastructure. In this session, [Zsolt Revay](https://www.linkedin.com/in/zsoltrevay/) and [Thomas Mager](https://www.linkedin.com/in/thomas-mager-71916716/) detail the engineering behind **"Overlay,"** the internal data application PartnerRe built to solve this scaling challenge. Overlay’s architecture decouples business logic from compute power. We use **Datavirtuality** as a semantic orchestration layer, while leveraging **Snowflake** strictly as a heavy calculation engine. By using an aggressive **SQL push-down strategy**, we treat the database as a compute cluster. This allows us to process that Cartesian explosion of policy data and stochastic scenarios right where the data lives—without moving it across the network. **Key Technical Discussion Points:** * **Optimisation:** Handling massive joins via parallel processing and strategic table materialisation. * **Performance:** Using Elastic Virtual Warehouses to achieve linear scaling, reducing processing time from **hours to minutes**. * **Economics:** Using Auto-Suspend and Resource Monitors to keep this massive compute power cost-effective. Attendees will learn how to architect a solution that balances the auditability required by regulators with the on-demand agility required by actuaries. **Event Details** 📍 **14th January \| Clayton Hotel** **18:00** \| Food & Drinks 🍽️🥂 **18:30** \| Scaling Reinsurance Compliance: The Engineering Behind PartnerRe’s "Overlay" **19:15** \| Drinks & Networking 🍻 Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with fellow data professionals and gain valuable insights into efficient Snowflake use, Gen AI applications, and proving the value of solid data modeling! See you there! Most repeated computer tasks in life that *can* be automated, *should* be automated. This day is for people who’d rather write scripts. **NOTE: To confirm your registration you need to sign up here: [https://giveago.co/register/browser-agents](https://giveago.co/register/browser-agents)** We’re spending a full builder day building browser agents with **browser-use**, agents that literally click, scroll, log in, read pages, fill forms and move across the web like a real person. By the end of the day, you won’t just know *how* browser automation works, you’ll have automated something in your actual life or workflow. **Projects You Could Build** • A daily briefing agent that logs into multiple dashboards, collects numbers and sends you a summary • A form completion assistant that fills repetitive applications or admin tasks • A scraper that gathers data from a messy website and updates your sheet or Notion The goal is to experiment, collaborate and figure things out together. You’ll work in small teams to break real workflows into steps a browser agent can follow, and learn how to guide an LLM through actual webpages. In thus builder day you will ship a working browser automation that replaces something you do by hand. What to Expect • A hands-on day where you build with other passionate builders and share ideas • A simple, structured introduction to browser-use and how LLMs control a real browser • Lots of collaboration, quick debugging and people helping each other get their agents working • A final demo session where everyone presents their projects & shares learnings **NOTE: To confirm your registration you need to sign up here: [https://giveago.co/register/browser-agents](https://giveago.co/register/browser-agents)** **🗓 Schedule** 🕙 **11:00 AM** Doors open and workspace setup ⚙️ **11:15 AM** Intro to browser agents with browser-use 🧩 **11:30 AM** Guided setup and your first working agent 🚀 **12:00 PM** Start building 🍕 **1:00 PM** Lunch 🖥️ **4:30 PM – 5:30 PM** Demos Bring your laptop, charger, and one part of your life that should already be automated. **Thanks to our sponsors** \*\*[Browser Use](http://browser-use.com/) YC W25\*\*: The team giving AI agents real hands on the web, the ability to click, scroll, log in, fill forms, and move through messy websites like an actual person. They have raised **$17M** in ther seed round to push this forward and they’re quickly becoming *the* layer that makes fully automated workflows possible. ## **Community Sponsor** \*\*[Wolfpack](https://www.wolfpack-digital.com/?utm_source=giveago&utm_medium=live_event):\*\* Wolfpack Digital is an award-winning agency that designs, builds, and launches digital products for startups, scaleups, and enterprises. With 200+ web and mobile apps delivered across fintech, healthcare, IoT, and more, their clients include Musgrave, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Deezer, and Sephora. ## **Venue Partner** \*\*[Baseline](http://baseline.community/):\*\* Baseline is an independent community and workspace for early-stage founders who are building breakout and break-through tech companies in Ireland. *** ## **Join the community** [Give(a)Go](http://giveago.co/) is a community of builders, hackers and tinkerers that runs regular hands-on workshops and builder days! Follow us on: [LinkedIn](https://www.giveago.co/linkedin) \| [Instagram](https://www.giveago.co/instagram) \| [Website](https://www.giveago.co/) \| [Github](https://github.com/orgs/Give-a-Go) *We’ll be taking photos and short video clips throughout the day for recap posts and marketing. January Repair Cafe
January Repair Cafe
Bring your broken tech and trinkets to get them fixed by the skilled volunteers at TOG Hackerspace – with a bit of help from our friends at Dublin Maker! On **Sunday, 18 January 2026**, between **12 pm and 4 pm**, TOG Hackerspace will host the first Repair Cafe of the new year in our own space. At this event, volunteers will share their expertise and passion for repair, helping you fix your broken items and breathe new life into them. Whether it’s a malfunctioning gadget, a piece of clothing in need of mending, or a household item that’s seen better days, bring it along and let the team work their magic. ### What can you bring in? * Clothes and accessories * Toys * Small electrical appliances and electronics * Small furniture … and many other things! Safety testing (PAT) for electrical devices will be available. ### What happens at a repair cafe? At the Repair Café, you sit down with a fixer and work together on your item. You can learn how to repair it yourself, or simply watch and learn from the volunteers while enjoying a tea or coffee. TOG members will also be on hand to give you a tour of the space while you wait. It’s not a drop-off service – it’s a shared, social repair session. Even if something can’t be fixed, you’ll at least go home knowing what went wrong and what your options are. ### Why join a repair cafe? Repair Cafés are a great way to support a circular economy, reduce waste, and extend the life of your belongings. Every successful repair keeps resources in use for longer, saves money, and keeps items out of the bin. They’re also a lovely way to meet people, swap stories about well-loved objects, and pick up new skills in a relaxed setting. ### Where and when? **Where?** – TOG Hackerspace, Unit 1B Motor City, Kylemore Road, Dublin 12, D12 CF6V **When?** – Sunday 18 January 2026, 12 pm – 4 pm Admission is free – but please **book a ticket so we can plan numbers** – all are welcome! Pickleball-James Lee Community Center-Outdoor (near the playground area)
The pickleball courts are situated on the far side of the playground, past the swing sets and picnic area. These courts (are] strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, and we do not offer reservation for public use. The courts are frequently unoccupied, but sometimes few people utilize the courts. We've created a WhatsApp group for our Meetup community to help everyone stay connected and get event updates more quickly. It’s a great way to share important info, coordinate plans, and keep each other in the loop about upcoming meetups. Feel free to join so you don’t miss out on any of the fun! https://chat.whatsapp.com/Bw0vxcNKRC1CeHixU41wTG
