Mindful Walk/Movement in Yarra Bend Forest + Lunch
Mindful Walk/Movement in Yarra Bend Forest + Lunch
This is a weekly event for our community to meet in-person at the beautiful Yarra Bend forest for some inspiring mindful walking and movement. We do this movement practice in Fitzroy Gardens each weekday (7.30am) - but this event is for people who want to try our practice and meet our community but can't make it to inner Melbourne at 7.30am! Specifically the practice is called Good Vibrancy and is a fairly concise 30-minute practice involving a sequence of... \- Breath\-work for inspiration \- Movement for grace \- Compassion for love/gratitude \- Mindfulness for balance \- Visualisation for intention \- Qi Gong for abundance It is designed to align one's whole self (mind, body, spirit) around one's higher ideals - for example freedom and abundance. This not only feels amazing but also, over time, will make success a simple and straight-forward choice - because limitations, distractions and complications will become increasingly irrelevant. If this is your first time doing the practice you will likely feel highly elated from engaging with your fullest self (perhaps for the first time). This is not a bad thing it's just part of the process of starting a new practice - stick with it and you will feel grounded and refreshed. The visualisation part (Life Visualisation) involves reimagining your past "story" and future "script". So please have a general idea of your ideal life/future in mind and note that if you have unresolved trauma it's not a good time to delve into that aspect of your past. The compassion part of the practice (Heart Invocation) involves a short/silent/personal prayer (because this is an effective method of tuning into abundant, universal love) - if you don't want to pray you can sit this part out but please respect other peoples' choice to pray. Perhaps around 11.45am we will go to Studley Park Boathouse for lunch for about 45-min - if you are attending lunch please purchase a beverage or something to eat! Thanks
Yarra and Botanics Walk discussing 'Things Fall Apart' by Chinua Achebe
Yarra and Botanics Walk discussing 'Things Fall Apart' by Chinua Achebe
We'll meet at the spot where Fed Square meets the Princes Bridge over the Yarra (near the pedestrian crossing closest to the river from Flinders St, on the Fed Square side). We'll walk for about 6km along the Yarra River, through the Botanic Gardens and back along the river to Federation Square for a coffee after the walk. This month, we're reading and talking about 'Things Fall Apart' by Chinua Achebe. The blurb: "Arguably Achebe's most important novel, *Things Fall Apart* has sold over 10 million copies worldwide and been translated into more than fifty languages Okonkwo is the greatest warrior alive, famous throughout West Africa. But when he accidentally kills a clansman, things begin to fall apart. Then Okonkwo returns from exile to find missionaries and colonial governors have arrived in the village. With his world thrown radically off-balance he can only hurtle towards tragedy. Chinua Achebe's stark novel reshaped both African and world literature. This arresting parable of a proud but powerless man witnessing the ruin of his people begins Achebe's landmark trilogy of works chronicling the fate of one African community, continued in *Arrow of God* and *No Longer at Ease*." Goodreads rating: 3.74 How does a walking bookclub work? Like a normal bookclub, we talk about the book, what else we're reading, have read, or want to read (as well as a few tangents into life outside literature!) but we do it while walking around Melbourne and then over a coffee. We often split into smaller groups as we walk, but we also regroup through the walk. Should I read the book beforehand? The conversation will be more interesting if you do, but you can still come along if you haven't finished it yet! Do I need to bring anything? **Comfy** walking shoes, drinking water, some money for coffee or a bite to eat after if you wish. No need to bring the book unless you want to. No shows No shows (RSVPing yes and not attending) mean the group waits unnecessarily for those who are not coming, thinking you are running a little late. It’s absolutely fine to change your rsvp for any reason up until the walk begins, and you don’t need to leave a comment, send a message or give a reason, but if you don't click that 'change rsvp' button, you may be removed from the group. Membership Fee Did you know that while it is free to attend most events, Meetup charges organisers about $600 a year to organise a group? Members of the Walking Book Club are asked to pay a membership fee of $10 per year (not per event) to help cover this cost. When you join the group, you'll be automatically given a three month trial so you can see what the group is like, without needing to make any payment. If you would like to continue attending events after this, please follow Meetup's instructions to pay the $6.50US/approx $10AUD fee once per year (or contact group organisers if you would prefer to make payment using paypal, payID, cash or bank transfer).
Base Chakra Reiki Healing Night
Base Chakra Reiki Healing Night
Namaste, healer. New Year. New opportunities. New chance to expand our healing work. But everything starts with a solid energetic base, and for that we need to strengthen our base chakra. Hence, our **Reiki Base Chakra Healing Night**. Come along and we'll do powerful meditations and group healing to strengthen it. Among other things, the base chakra is essential for: * **Grounding** (so you can deal with the hurly-burly of life in a balanced way) * **Stamina** (so you have the energy to enjoy life!) * **Strong boundaries** (so you don’t take on other people’s stuff) * **Calm nerves** (for less stress and greater peace) * **Feeling safe in your body and in life** (for confidence, stability, and a deep knowing that everything will be okay) So come and join us for the first practice night of the year and leave feeling energetically and emotionally uplifted. Hope to see you there! Jeremy ## **Expand Your Healing in 2026 with Chi Activation** **(This will change the way you heal!)** You may not know it yet, but after teaching Reiki for 15+ years, I started teaching my very own healing modality, **[Chi Activation](https://www.chiactivation.com.au/level-1.html)**. It takes what you do with Reiki and expands on it, so that you can access multiple healing energy frequencies (including Earth Star and Soul Star healing energies), something that will not only make your healing work stronger, but also more versatile. In short, you'll be able to heal more things, more effectively, than with Reiki alone. I have a course coming up on **Jan. 17–18**, and if you use the promo code **'chi100'**, you can get a **$100 discount**. So check out the course, I know you'll be amazed by how much you get from it. Visit the [course website](https://www.chiactivation.com.au/level-1.html) for more info. ## **What Students Say About Chi Activation** “My experiences in the Chi Activation course have truly opened my eyes to the limitless potential of energy work. Jeremy has implemented his substantial knowledge and experience in energy work to create a system that is experiential, intuitive, user-friendly and powerful. Do yourself an absolute favour and take the plunge into the world of Chi Activation. You could not be in better hands!” (Christian Van Eck) “I have done many courses with Jeremy, all of which have been incredible, but the Chi Activation courses 1 and 11, really blew my mind. To me, they highlighted just how unlimited human beings really are, and the healing experiences went to a deeper level again. I was having digestive issues which weren't clearing up with Reiki alone. Chi Activation has helped and healed these issues. Jeremy is a highly proficient teacher with the right mix of humour, professionalism, intuitive understanding and intelligence. I would highly recommend Chi Activation.” (Nonie K) “Doing the Chi Activation course has by far been the most powerful healing experience I have had. Jeremy is a mastermind and I am so grateful that I get to learn how to tap into these amazing healing frequencies to activate our chi or life force energy. Absolutely incredible and highly recommended.” (Carla Jenkins) To learn more and unleash more of your healing potential, [click here](https://www.chiactivation.com.au/level-1.html).

In-Person Buddhist Meditation and Psychology Group
In-Person Buddhist Meditation and Psychology Group
This group is for anyone who wants to explore Buddhist meditation in a relaxed and supportive setting. Each session includes a short meditation, a simple teaching from Buddhist psychology, and an open discussion about how these ideas show up in everyday life. While our foundation is Buddhist practice, we love weaving in wisdom from other traditions whenever it helps us grow, find peace, and support each other. Members of our community come from many different backgrounds, and you do not need to consider yourself a Buddhist to attend. All are welcome. The session runs from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., with doors open from 6:30 to 9:00. Come early or stay after if you’d like to enjoy some quiet reflection or casual conversation with the community. On the first Wednesday of each month, we share a potluck meal. Bring a dish if you’d like, but the most important thing you can bring is yourself. We look forward to seeing you!

Dharma Talk & Meditation
Dharma Talk & Meditation
Join us at 11:30 a.m. for a meditation class led by Khenpo Karze, followed by a public talk and Q&A. The meditation focus varies from class to class. We are currently learning how to meditate on the Four Immeasurables: loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity. The class begins with 30 minutes of meditation instruction, followed by 5-10 minutes of meditation practice, and then continues with discussion and Q&A. Each session concludes with a brief Chenrezig practice in which we recite Om Mani Padme Hung (a prayer of compassion), and a dedication prayer that our efforts benefit all beings. This class offers a strong foundation in meditation, helping cultivate inner peace and compassion amidst busy lives. All are welcome! This program is open to anyone with an interest in Buddhism and you can come to all or any part of the program. Families are welcome. There is no fee, but donations are encouraged. Join us! Class is offered IN-PERSON in our Prayer Room and ONLINE on [Facebook Live](https://www.facebook.com/KPCBuddhistTemple/) and [YouTube Live](https://www.youtube.com/@KunzangPalyulCholing/streams). You can also watch online here: https://www.tara.org/kpc-maryland-events-calendar/ About the teacher: Khenpo Tenzin Karze graduated from Ngagyur Nyingma Institute’s intensive Buddhist graduate course in 2006, and was awarded the degree of Khenpo, equivalent to a PhD in Buddhist Philosophy, in 2011. He has received teachings and empowerments from many great Nyingma masters, and taught extensively in various Palyul temples in Nepal, India, Europe and Taiwan. This is his first time in the USA. We are delighted that Khenpo is now in residence at KPC and will be providing traditional Dharma instruction to help us deepen our practice of wisdom and compassion.

Saturday morning hike
Saturday morning hike
Hello Hikers!! Welcome to our Saturday morning hike at 9:00 AM! Many - but not all - of our hikes originate at Great Falls Park, off Georgetown Pike. Unless you already have an appropriate pass, the park entrance fee is $20/car for a single visit or $35/car for a 12-month pass that is good for the Maryland side of the river too. Come twice and you'll save 5 bucks! For the record, all scheduled hikes will be held even when it rains, snows or is super hot or cold unless the weather is too extreme to be safe. Our standard hike is a relatively easy 1 hour plus loop hike at a moderate pace. Usually a hike-extension is offered for those wishing to add a few miles more, up to 7 miles or so total. In spite of our Meetup name, we also hike in nearby parks such as Riverbend, Scott's Run, Turkey Run, Seneca, and Billy Goat A or C on theMaryland side of the Potomac. We have also scheduled hikes in Shenandoah NP and at Sugarloaf in Maryland. Please note that phone connections can be iffy in the park so don't call you are running late, but texting may work. It's best for you to be on time as we set out pretty much on time. This 1+ hour of hiking (or more) is a great way to relax, turn off your cell phones, make new friends, and get some exercise. I hope to see you on the next hike!! Thanks Dick, Julie, and Katie P.S. We will meet at the lower parking lot. Once you pass the ranger's booth, make an immediate U-turn to the right and follow the road downhill to the parking lot. We meet by the big rock at the far end of the lot.
