About XTC
The eXtreme Tuesday Club (XTC) is London's oldest agile meetup, and has been meeting since 1999. Initially the meetup was focused on discussing Extreme Programming (XP), but it has expanded to include anything XP, agile, lean, or the larger context in which we do software development activities.
We welcome all software development newbies, practitioners, and experts to discuss topics of interest over drinks.
Follow @extremetuesday (https://twitter.com/extremetuesday) on Twitter for announcements and updates, or use the hashtag #XTCLondon (https://twitter.com/hashtag/XTCLondon) to find and share insights.

RUSH MATTING
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/rush-matting-17/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/rush-matting-17/)
**⋆⋆⋆**
John Page will teach the endangered craft of rush-plaited matting.
Rush matting has been used as the flooring of choice by grand houses and great cathedrals in the past. Now it is practised by few and produced by even fewer.
Here is a chance to make a small mat using the traditional techniques.
**FAQs**
**How can I hope to learn anything about such a complex craft?**
John will prepare the long lengths of rush by damping them beforehand so they are soft and pliable. He will help each learner produce a finished mat to take home. Depending on people’s speed and desire, The finished item could be an elegant centre-piece for a table or a small mat for the floor. This method is a technique that can be enlarged to become a mat that has warmth and durability. We offer a list of suppliers to help you continue practicing at home.
**Any dangers?**
The rushes are soft and flexible and when wet, the studio smells like a riverwalk. The tools include big needles and scissors but most of the work is done with only hands.
**What do I need to bring?**
We supply everything for this course. The rushes are pre-soaked. Most of the tools are simple and easily available from hardware stores if you wish to continue your new hobby at home. A couple of special tools can be handcrafted or bought from suppliers listed in the notes.
**About Jon Page**
Tutor John Page began his basketmaking career with a City & Guilds course in creative basketry, having been greatly impressed by the Crafts Council’s Contemporary International Basketry exhibition. He is a yeoman member of the Basketmakers Livery Company and repairs harps. John also teaches how to make Rush and Willow baskets at The Goodlife Centre.
DIY IN A DAY – DRILLS
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/diy-in-a-day-drills-339/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/diy-in-a-day-drills-339/)
**⋆⋆⋆**
Learn the basics at this fast-paced but relaxed one-day workshop.
A perfect starter for all those annoying jobs around the house that you feel you should be able to tackle…if only you knew how. We know it’s frustrating to wait for it to be done and then get charged for it and we understand it can be a bit daunting to head into a wall with a power drill.
Pick up the skills to hang curtains, blinds, and simple shelves on any wall. Learn to drill into wood, brick, tiles, or hollow walls with confidence. We will show you how to judge what is behind the walls before you drill.
An enjoyable ‘ hands-on’ one-day workshop that covers many of the common aspects of basic DIY. If you have just bought your home and have realized it didn’t include a landlord to fix stuff, or just don’t want to rely on someone else, this day is for you. There is plenty of time to practice on several exercises over the day.
The workshop also covers hanging pictures and heavier objects like mirrors, cupboards, and flat-screen TVs. You will learn how to hang a hook, fix a baton, and then a pair of level shelf brackets.
Finish off the day learning how to fit shelves into awkward alcoves – a handy skill you can use to fit work surfaces too. Learn how to select the correct drill bit, wall fixing, and screw to secure things confidently. The day will also include a chance to fill small and medium holes in wood and walls to prepare your surfaces for painting.
Along the way, we show you how to remove old wall fixings and what to do with the ones you can’t. This a fun fast day with plenty of tools to try and lots of advice on which tools to have in a basic toolkit. If you are thinking of upgrading your drill, you can test all of the ones we use and feel more knowledgeable about what you want to buy.
This course is especially suitable if you are not handy or if you are able, but not that confident, about tackling small but important tasks in your home. We will also suggest how to tell if a task is appropriate for DIY or GSI (Get Someone In).
You will take home a set of skills that will last a lifetime.
All tools and materials included. Perfect for beginners.

Automate All the Things?
🏎️ **If you’re not automating yet… you probably are.**
Be honest: how much of your job are you already secretly automating, and how much of it is just automation in disguise?
In this session, **[Ellis Pratt](https://www.linkedin.com/in/ellispratt/)**, director of **[Cherryleaf](https://www.cherryleaf.com/)**, will take a clear, no-hype look at automation in technical communication. He’ll rewind to where things stood just over a year ago, then discuss what’s changed since.
We’ll explore how automation shows up across the technical writing lifecycle, and common pitfalls that come with it.
Finally, we’ll look ahead. What does increasing automation really mean for our careers as technical writers and documentarians?
Join us for an honest, practical conversation about what to automate, what not to, and how to stay relevant as the tools keep changing.
**📣 This event is aimed at technical writers and those working in closely related roles. The discussion will focus on automation and AI specifically in the context of technical documentation and technical content workflows.**

We suggest that hikers wear comfortable footwear and suitable clothing made from quick-dry, synthetic fabrics, as cotton can lead to uncomfortable blisters and life-threatening hypothermia in case of inclement weather.
*For important updates regularly monitor the "comments" section below.*
*Don't be a no show! If your plans change, update your RSVP.*
*Please also view the Rules listed at the end of this description*
\*Please read The 10 Essentials of Hiking: https://americanhiking.org/resources/10essentials/ \*
RULES
Pets: When hikes are organized in dog-friendly areas, hikers are invited to bring their pet(s). However, dogs are the sole responsibility of the owner(s) who brought them; should be up-to-date on their vaccinations & in possession of the relevant tags; and should be under the control of their owner(s) at all times. Dogs that demonstrate consistently aggressive or otherwise out-of-control behavior will be banned from future hikes. Owners should come prepared to dispose of their dogs’ waste in appropriate receptacles.
Alcohol/Smoking/Intoxicants: Use of intoxicants such as alcohol, cigarettes and/or illegal substances is banned during the hikes.

Deal or Disaster: The 5-Minute Investment Evaluation System
This training is designed for real estate agents who want to learn how to play the Agent Investor game. The goal of this training is to help you flip your income into ownership.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
**Investors move fast. Most agents don’t.**
If you can’t evaluate a deal quickly and confidently, you lose credibility—and the opportunity disappears.
Deal or Disaster teaches a simple, repeatable framework to determine in minutes whether a deal prints money or burns it.
In this session, you’ll learn a 5-minute investment evaluation system that works across flips, rentals, BRRRRs, wholetails, and creative deals.
The goal isn’t perfection—it’s speed, clarity, and credibility.
We’ll break down:
* How to identify the investor’s true goal before running numbers
* A fast, reliable method to estimate ARV with confidence
* How to calculate the real all-in acquisition cost
* Simple heuristics to ballpark rehab and improvement costs
* The key metrics that reveal whether a deal works—or should be killed
You’ll also learn the most common red flags that signal bad deals, thin margins, and hidden risk, so you know when to pause or walk away.
When you can analyze deals in minutes, you earn authority, build trust, and become indispensable to investors.
Speed creates opportunity—and opportunity creates repeat business.
If you want to move from real estate generalist to trusted investment strategist, this session gives you the framework to do it.
