🗣️ **Talks**
**➡️ Modernizing Your React App: Compiler, useEffectEvent, Activity & Friends**
*React has changed a lot in the last year: React 19, 19.1 and now 19.2 brought a stable React Compiler, new hooks like useEffectEvent, the \ API, and better SSR primitives such as Partial Pre-rendering. And more*
*In this talk we’ll take a demo React app that’s full of effects, memoization and “old school” patterns, and modernize it step by step.*
**➡️ A Triplestore-Powered BaaS: Real-Time Collaboration Without the Backend**
*Backend-as-a-Service platforms promise simplicity, but often lock developers into complex APIs authorization rules. What if your frontend could directly manage data, authorization, and collaboration - without domain-specific backend code?*
*In this talk, Oliver shares how he built a triplestore-based BaaS to power real-time collaboration in his side project MonsterWriter, and how the approach grew into an independent open-source project. We’ll see how LinkedRecords.com enables fine-grained authorization, simplifies real-time collaboration, and supports a Bring Your Own Backend model that gives organizations more control over their data and vendor relationships. It is also shown how global state management becomes a lot easier in React apps.*
**➡️ Building Cross-Platform Agentic UI at Superhuman**
*Recently, Superhuman (formerly Grammarly) launched Superhuman Go, an AI assistant that works alongside you on every platform. To build it, we needed a scalable solution that supports an unlimited number of agents that dynamically shapes the user interface and looks similar across all supported desktop and mobile platforms. Join me to find out how we discovered solutions for this innovative new product.*

Co-Working Session (Deep Work, all types of work welcome)
Hello! I’m organising a coworking + socialising session for all of us who are working on projects (e.g. our own creations, freelance or remote work) but don't feel like sitting alone at home. 🙂
To ensure that we have time for both socialising AND working, we will be using the so-called “Pomodoro” technique:
**50 mins deep work** (silent), followed by **10 mins break** to socialise. And then repeat!
You are welcome to join whatever your personal background is, and whatever project you are working on.
I (the host) speak English and German, so either language is fine.
——————————————————-
AGENDA:
* **Short Intro**
Tell us who you are and share something about what you will be working on today
* **Pomodoro Session** \- 3x \(3h\)
Each Pomodoro session consists of 50 mins focused “deep work” (no talking, no interruptions, **phones on silent mode**)
-> then 10 mins break: a chance to share your progress with others
-> Repeat
* **15 mins Wrap Up**
Celebrate what you achieved and get to know others 😊
————
The location is **Espresso House near Checkpoint Charlie** (they have multiple outlets - so be sure to go to the correct one!)
Wifi + power plugs are available - but best to bring a fully charged laptop, just in case 🙃
You **do not** have to pay anything. But since we are using the café space, it is common courtesy to buy at least one drink (coffee costs roughly **4 Euros**).

The Lineup for the evening
**Talk 1: How Data (Science) is Transforming Professional Sports**
**Abstract**: From Moneyball's linear regression revolution to AlphaGo's Move 37, data science has fundamentally reshaped how we understand and play sports. This talk explores three key dimensions of this transformation: first, how analytics revolutionized scouting and training—from the Oakland Athletics' 20-game winning streak to Liverpool FC ending their 30-year championship drought through data-driven player selection. Second, how machine learning and real-time tracking systems have changed gameplay itself, making the mid-range jump shot obsolete in basketball and revealing chess strategies that had eluded grandmasters for thousands of years. Finally, we'll examine the darker consequences, including how ML-powered microbetting has transformed sports gambling into a $149 billion industry that resembles slot machines more than traditional wagering.
This talk offers insights spanning baseball, soccer, basketball, chess, and Go - demonstrating how data science doesn't just optimize existing strategies, it fundamentally questions the assumptions entire sports were built upon.
**Speaker**: Kaan Isik
**Bio**: Kaan Isik is a Data Scientist at GetYourGuide where he works on the Activity Ranking team. As a member of this team, he focuses on developing and optimizing the learn-to-rank deep learning model that powers real-time activity recommendations for millions of travelers worldwide. His work directly impacts how users discover activities across GetYourGuide's platform, making their travel planning more personalized and efficient.
**Talk 2: Can Foundation Models outperform classic ML on structured data? Hands-on experience with TabPFN**
**Abstract**: LLMs excel at generalising over text data, but cannot reliably predict outcomes from spreadsheets and databases, which drive most critical decisions across medicine, finance, science and virtually all industries. In this talk, we will showcase how TabPFN, Tabular Foundation Model developed by Berlin-based Prior Labs, successfully generalises over structured data problems, beating classic ML with win rates ranging from 100% to 87%.
**Speaker**: Diana Kriuchkova
**Bio**: Diana is leading Product at Prior Labs. She is a part of the team developing TabPFN, a foundational model for tasks on structured data. TabPFN was published in the 2025 issue of Nature journal, and has shown to beat classic ML methods like XGBoost in >80% of cases. Diana's former background is in machine learning, and she spent last years leading product at developer-focused startups in Berlin.
**Lightning talks**
There will be slots for 2-3 Lightning Talks (3-5 Minutes for each) between the two main talks.
Kindly let us know if you would like to present something :)

**50min of deep work** (silent), followed by **10min of break** to socialise. Then repeat! If you get into flow, you're also welcome to skip the breaks.
It’s an effective way to stay focused - you can read more about it [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro_Technique).
Anyone from any background is welcome, whatever project you are working on or whatever is your personal background.
I (the host) speak English and German, so either is fine :-)
——————————————————-
AGENDA:
* **15min Intro**
* Get to know everyone, talk about what you will work on today
* **Pomodoro Session** (3x) - *Each Pomodoro session consists* *of...*
* ...**50min** of uninterrupted “deep work” (no talking, no interruptions, no phones)
* ...**10min** of break: share your progress with others, talk about what you are stuck on etc.
* Repeat
* Conclude and celebrate your progress
Share your progress, socialise and get to know others 😊
————
We'll be at the Social Hub Berlin (they have a food menu in case you get hungry). The structured part will end at 2:30pm, but you're welcome to stay longer, go for lunch together, or leave earlier. See you there 🩵
**\*\*We'll reserve the long table. Please update your RSVP in advance if you can't attend!\*\***

Responsible AI in HealthCare: Considerations and Opportunities
Our friend **Dmitri Katz**, a 10 years+ long time friend and huge supporter of **STEM4Health**, **G4A**, **Digital Health**, and every **Innovation in Healthcare**, is organizing this event. I highly recommend to attend. Please register at https://luma.com/m47avlhj.
AI is offering new opportunities to address persistent, high-impact societal challenges. In domains where social and human stakes are high, practical value will depend not only on technical performance, but on how well AI systems are aligned with ethical, institutional, and operational realities. Addressing this need requires sustained, cross-disciplinary collaboration grounded in real-world practice. To this end, **ÆTHOS Berlin** is building an interdisciplinary community of founders, researchers, practitioners, domain experts, and policymakers.
In this workshop, we will discuss real-world care challenges and the constraints that shape responsible AI use. Participants are invited to contribute practical perspectives.
**What we aim to produce:**
The workshop will produce Challenge Briefs: short documents that describe (a) a concrete care problem, (b) its real-world impact, and (c) the key institutional, ethical, and practical constraints involved. Where it emerges naturally, the briefs may also note open directions for work, such as further research or approaches for AI implementation. The briefs will be published publicly after the event and shared as reference material for future research and innovation.
**Workshop format (2 hours):**
* Short, problem‑focused inputs from care‑domain experts, early‑stage startups, and other workshop attendees.
* Small, mixed working groups
* Each group drafts one brief using a simple structure:
Problem · Impact · Constraints · Directions
* Sharing and discussion
**Why your participation matters:**
* Help ensure that actual constraints shape how AI problems are defined
* Bring institutional, ethical, and operational realities into the discussion early
* Contribute to challenge definitions that shape the community’s future focus
* Be acknowledged as a contributing participant in this first workshop
**What participation could involve:**
* Share a real-world care‑domain challenge
* Contributing to the drafting group
* Bring a laptop if possible.
This is an ÆTHOS community initiative. Participants are welcome to share what they are working on, but the focus will remain on problem framing rather than product pitching. If you have questions or would like to help with the workshop, please let us know.
Warm Regards,
Dmitri Katz

The Pros and Cons of Service Consistency
In an era focused on scalable efficiency, the pursuit of absolute service consistency is often seen as the ultimate goal. But what is gained and what is lost when service offerings are entirely predictable? Does aiming for uniformity stifle necessary adaptation and human connection?
Join us for an intimate discussion exploring the often overlooked trade-offs of **service consistency**. We'll dive into when consistency builds “trust and reliability”, and when it becomes “a barrier to designing flexible, empathetic, and truly customer-centric experiences”.
