Stoic Training Session
Join us for a session based on Stoic philosophy. Through guided mental exercises and reflection, we'll put Stoic principles in practice. Suitable for all levels. This time, we will look at teachings by Seneca and Anthony de Mello.
Important to note: 1. Don't worry, it's not going to be too serious. We will fun, too! 2. We're deliberately a small group and we'll do activities in groups of 2-3 people. The idea is to make everyone as comfy as possible.
**Please bring: Pen and paper!**
**Location we meet at:**
In the 25h Hotel Zürich West (**NOT the 25h Hotel at Langstrasse**). When you enter the hotel, just walk 20m straight.
**For Stoics social events in general:**
Important: When you register for the event, please commit to it and **don't be a NO SHOW**. Presumably, when the old Stoics decided to go to an event, they kept to it ;)
We look forward to seeing you
District Runners Community Run
Do you want to run regularly? Together in a group?

We run about 7km and adjust the speed depending on the runners who join us.
For us, running isn’t just about fitness and competition, it’s about community and connection. We believe that nobody should have to run alone, and that by running together, we can push each other to be stronger and more resilient.
We look forward to welcoming you to the next run 🙌
🎭 Badener Carnival Kick-off: Bonfire, Traditions & Guggenmusik 🥳
**Ready to welcome Carnival the Baden way?**
Join us for the official opening night of the Badener Fasnacht!
Fire, satire, loud music, and centuries-old traditions come together on Schmutziger Donnerstag, when Baden officially kicks off carnival week with the burning of the Füdlibürger.
**Event Info & Plan**
🕔 17:45 – Meet in front of Subway, Weite Gasse (13), Baden
🚶 Walk together through the old town
🔥 Secure a good spot at the Graben for the bonfire
🎺 After the burning, explore the city and enjoy Guggenmusik concerts
📩 Dedicated WhatsApp chat: [Link](https://chat.whatsapp.com/DR2CA4yF3AH0s3LH0X2Whm)
**The Story Behind the Bonfire**
The Füdlibürger is a symbolic figure blamed for all the mishaps of the past year. After a humorous public “trial,” he is ceremonially burned — a ritual that represents letting go, starting fresh, and diving headfirst into carnival madness.
Dress warm, wear comfortable shoes, and be ready for noise, crowds, and lots of carnival energy.
**Support the Carnival**
You can support the Badener Fasnacht by buying the official carnival badge (Plakette):
💰 CHF 10.– (standard version)
📍 Sold by street vendors, carnival stands, and in selected bars and shops
Wearing it helps keep this tradition alive.

**Frequently Asked Questions**
* ***Is the show really in English?*** Absolutely. Every set is performed in English by a mix of Swiss-based and international comics, so no Swiss-German skills required.
* ***What’s a “Comedy Open Mic”?*** It’s the testing ground for jokes. Pros road-test fresh material and brave newcomers grab their first five minutes. Expect some gems, some flops—and the fun of seeing comedy born in real time.
* ***Will it be funny?*** Most of the time, yes! An open mic is a roller-coaster: seasoned acts, new voices, and the occasional glorious train-wreck. It’s all part of the charm.
* ***Can I perform too?*** Yes - you need to book a spot - find out more about how to do it here: [https://inyourfacecomedy.ch/perform/](https://inyourfacecomedy.ch/perform/).
* ***Do I need to buy tickets in advance?*** Please do. We’re usually running around before the show and door sales slow things down. If you’re stuck, we’ll try, but no promises. Link to tickets as at [https://inyourfacecomedy.ch/comedybrew/](https://inyourfacecomedy.ch/comedybrew/)
* ***How does seating work?*** First come, first served so grab a drink, snag a seat, and settle in.
* ***Is food available at the bar?*** ROBIN’s serves drinks only. For a pre-show bite, try **Restaurant Johanniter** (classic Swiss) or **Holy Cow!** across the street for burgers.
* ***Will the comedians pick on me?*** We chat with the crowd for laughs, not humiliation. Friendly banter only - you’re safe.
* ***How long is the show?*** Doors open 7:30pm, show starts \~7:50pm with a 15 min break in the middle ending around 10pm. Enough time for the last trams home...
* ***Age limit?*** All ages welcome of course 16+ recommended (adult themes, spicy language).

Altstadt und Kreuzgang / Oldtown and Kreuzgang
\-\- Deutsch \-\-\-

For this mindful photography event, we will meet at Zwingliplatz by the big tree.
Our first stop will be the Kreuzgang of the Grossmünster. After that, we’ll take a relaxed stroll through the winding alleys of the old town. As we walk, we’ll consciously look upwards and give our full attention to the second rows of windows on the buildings. It’s amazing how many small and charming details are hidden there – things we often overlook in everyday life.

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Hidden Cleopatra
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“The Hidden Cleopatra,”** an excavation through myth and slander to uncover the real Egyptian queen, with Jacquelyn Williamson, an Egyptologist and associate professor of archaeology and ancient art at George Mason University.
[Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/hidden-cleopatra](https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/hidden-cleopatra) .]
Depictions of Cleopatra are abundant in popular culture. A long list of painters have depicted her, Marilyn Monroe and Kim Kardashian have posed as her, and Vivien Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor famously portrayed her in Hollywood films.
At the end of the day, however, what most of us think we know about Cleopatra is wrong, the product of the ancient Rome’s “fake news” and anti-Egypt propaganda.
Learn about the real Cleopatra—and how our understanding of her came to be so distorted—with Professor Jacquelyn Williamson, scholar of women and power in ancient Egypt, teacher of courses on ancient Egyptian art and archaeology, and author of *Nefertiti’s Sun Temple: A New Cult Complex at Tell el-Amarna.*
Dr. Williamson will walk us through how the first Roman emperor, Octavian, created the distorted image of Cleopatra as seductress that we know today as part of his political scheming to defeat his rival Antony and end the Roman Republic once and for all.
Cleopatra has been the subject of debate and controversy ever since. William Shakespeare later relied on ancient Roman sources such as Horace and Plutarch in writing *Antony and Cleopatra*, and his play helped give rise to countless other works offering a distorted picture of her.
Professor Williamson argues that “Cleopatra was a human being, like you and I,” and “deserves the dignity of being represented as accurately as possible.” Her efforts to set the record straight have met frustration, however—after being extensively interviewed for the recent Netflix historical docuseries Queen Cleopatra, she concluded that it, too, had missed the mark.
You’ll gain a much deeper appreciation of the challenges of researching and accurately depicting the ancient past from Dr. Williamson, who also has taught at Harvard, Brandeis, and the University of California at Berkeley and is involved with an ongoing archaeological investigation of Queen Nefertiti’s sun temple. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.)
