Conundrum Corner - Your Dilemmas Discussed..
*this event is advertised elsewhere so there will be more people coming than stated*
**✨ Welcome to Conundrum Corner at The Union Jack pub, Southwark! ✨**
Step inside and join a gathering *of* open minds and kind hearts. Whether you bring a conundrum of your own that you are experiencing or simply your listening ear, you’ll find a welcoming space to share, reflect, and explore life’s tricky questions together.
🌿 **What to expect:**
* You’re invited to share a conundrum, dilemma or question that you yourself are experiencing.
* We’ll vote on three intriguing ones to explore more deeply.
* With a few extra details in hand, we’ll break into small groups for thoughtful discussion.
* Then, we’ll come together as one big group to share insights, perspectives, and perhaps even some fresh solutions.
The atmosphere is **analytical yet empathetic, thoughtful yet light-hearted**, and always non-judgmental. Whether your conundrum is personal, professional, or just a head-scratcher, we’re here to help unravel it together.
💸 There’s no set fee to attend, but we do ask for donations on the night to cover costs - which are warmly appreciated!
🍷 Please also support our lovely hosts, Jade and co., by buying yourself a drink at the bar (and food’s available if you fancy a bite).
💡 **What’s a conundrum, you ask?**
A conundrum is any dilemma, crossroads, or confusion in your life—big or small. It could be a **"chicken and egg"** situation, a **"catch-22"**, or a **"have your cake and eat it"** kind of puzzle. Sometimes, life just throws us complex, messy questions—and that’s what we’re here to navigate together.
Once our deep discussions wind down, we’ll slip into **pub mode**—a chance to relax, connect, and continue chatting with newfound friends.
**🛡️ Code of Conduct - *please note***
Conundrum Corner is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all attendees. Any abuse, harassment, or inappropriate behaviour towards other attendees, whether during the event or in any contact related to the event afterwards, will result in permanent removal from the Meetup group and exclusion from future events.

**Will Quantum Computing Destroy Crypto?**
Quantum computing is often cited as the one technology that could, in theory, compromise today’s blockchain security models.
But how real is that risk, and how worried should we actually be?
At our February CryptoMondays London, we’re cutting through the noise to unpack what quantum computing really means for crypto.
We’ll touch on:
* What quantum computing actually is (no maths degree required)
* Which parts of blockchain security *could* be affected - and which probably won’t
* Timelines: what matters now vs what’s still a long way off
* How the industry is thinking about a post-quantum future
**Keynote: Quantum vs Blockchain: Existential Threat or Industry Myth?** Join us for an enlightening keynote speech from Chunteng Xiao, who will explore the impact of quantum computing on blockchain: what the potential risks are to cryptographic systems, how it is shaping the industry and what steps are being taken, as well as Nervos CKB's approach to quantum resistance.
**Speakers**
**Keynote Speaker: Chunteng Xiao, Fullstack blockchain developer (Nervos CKB) & Researcher.**

Meetup #13 - AI Coding The Right Way
NOTE: This meetup is more technical than our normal subjects! Everyone is welcome to join but the content will be designed for developers and engineering leaders.
Shaping our future with AI. Creating opportunity through AI fluency, connection and community.
No jargon. No hype. No confusing terminology.
**Join us for our next in-person meetup in London on Thursday February 19th.**
Our theme for this meetup is **AI Coding the right way.** We'll be joined by Daniel Jones (AI Consultant, re:cinq) who has taught over 100 developers how to get the most of AI tools. Then we welcome a panel of engineering leaders to discuss the lessons they have learned on getting the best from their teams with new tools!
**Where and When?**
* Thursday, February 19th
* Doors open at 18:00
* Talks start at 19:00
* Tessl HQ, 210 Pentonville Rd, London N1 9JY, UK
**Talk: Agentic Coding For 100 Developers** (Daniel Jones)
How has a $3b Stockholm SaaS company transitioned 100 developers to AI-native development over a few weeks? Deejay shares how he helped Odevo with exactly this, but the answer might be more than you expect - it involves just as much discovery and psychology and it does training. Learn about the social and business pre-requisites for such a transformation, the syllabus that enables developers to use multi-agent workflows, and how 'one-and-done' training is insufficient for this type of behavioural change.
**About Deejay:**
Deejay is an AI Consultant at re:cinq, and has over a decade of experience in assisting organisations with tech transformation. He's been a developer, manager, entrepreneur, keynote speaker, father, bassist, martial arts instructor, games developer, and wearer of a rather silly moustache.
**Expert Panel: Leading Dev Teams Through AI Adoptions**
There are no right answers but there is certainly a lot of talk about when it comes to adopting AI coding tools in the right way. This expert panel will share the lessons they've learnt so far and what's working for their teams.
* Norberto Lopes, VP Engineering, Incident.io
* Manogna Machiraju, Head of Product Engineering, Domestic & General
* Daniel Jones, AI Consultant, re:cinq
**About Norberto**
Norberto is focussed on the intersection of building technology and how humans behave and work together. Currently VP Engineering at Incident.io, Norberto has enjoyed a varied career from startups to large companies. Growing teams across IT, product delivery, security, data infrastructure, and infrastructure.
Read Norberto's excellent blog here: [nlopes.dev](https://nlopes.dev/)
**About Manogna**
Manogna is Head of Product Engineering at Domestic & General.
She is on a personal mission to improve diversity and inclusion in software engineering for future of women in tech, through mentoring and making sure women’s voices are heard.
**Code of Conduct**
This event has a code of conduct that you can [review here.](https://aifortherestofus.live/code-of-conduct)

Introduction to Humanist Ceremonies with Wedding Celebrant Jessie Hayes
## Introduction to Humanist Ceremonies
**With Jessie Hayes**
**Please note this talk follows the [CLH AGM](https://www.meetup.com/central-london-humanists/events/312939816/) from 6.30-7.30 PM. If you would like to attend the AGM then you are most welcome. If you prefer to just attend the celebrant talk then please wait in the venue foyer and we will admit you from 7:20 PM.**
Humanist ceremonies are often one of the first ways people encounter humanism in practice. They mark life’s most meaningful moments with warmth, reflection, and joy, without religion, and always centred on the people involved.
In this talk, Jessie Hayes introduces humanist ceremonies: what they are, why they are becoming increasingly popular, how they differ from religious or civil ceremonies, and who they are for. Drawing on her experience as a celebrant, Jessie will explore why ceremonies matter to us as humans, how storytelling and values shape them, and why they are such a powerful expression of humanist ideas in everyday life.
The talk will be especially relevant for anyone curious about humanism, considering a humanist ceremony themselves, or simply interested in how meaning, love, and community are celebrated outside religious traditions. Whether you are new to humanism or have been involved for years, this session offers a thoughtful and accessible introduction to one of its most visible and joyful expressions.
Following the talk, after a short refreshments interval, there will be a moderated Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions, share reflections, and explore how humanist ceremonies connect people to humanist values in real and tangible ways.
### Your Speaker
**Jessie Hayes**
Jessie is a humanist celebrant and writer who designs and delivers deeply personal, non-religious ceremonies. She is passionate about storytelling, celebration, and helping people mark life’s key moments in ways that feel authentic and true to who they are.
Jessie is a celebrant within **Humanist Ceremonies**, the network of more than 550 celebrants trained and accredited by **Humanists UK** to deliver meaningful, inclusive ceremonies for non-religious people.
You can find out more about Jessie’s work at \*\*[www.jessiemaywrites.co.uk ](https://www.jessiemaywrites.co.uk/)\*\*and [Humanists UK profile](https://humanists.uk/celebrants/jessie-hayes/)

Agentic AI Meetup - AI Governance for Developers
**Important:** Register on the [event website](https://www.aicamp.ai/event/eventdetails/W2026021910)[ ](https://www.aicamp.ai/event/eventdetails/W2025110510)is required for admission.
We are excited to partner with Coder for a special edition of our AI Meetup in February, focusing on AI governance and compliance for developers.
AI is already part of how developers work: Coding assistants. Autonomous agents. Background tasks. PR reviews. But in most companies, AI usage is either completely ungoverned or quietly blocked.
This meetup is for developers who want to understand what AI governance actually means in practice, without turning their workflow into a compliance nightmare.
We’ll focus on how teams are introducing guardrails that protect source code, credentials, and infrastructure while still letting developers move fast. No policy decks. No buzzwords. Just real examples of how AI agents are being used safely inside modern dev environments.
**You’ll walk away with:**
* \- A clear understanding of what AI governance actually means for developers\, not just security teams
* \- Insight into why AI agents need different permissions than humans and where most teams get this wrong
* \- Practical examples of how guardrails can speed teams up instead of slowing them down
* \- A simple mental model you can apply whether you’re experimenting with AI locally or rolling it out across a team
**Who this is for:**
\- Beginner → intermediate software developers
\- Platform engineers and DevOps folks supporting dev teams
\- Anyone using \(or wanting to use\) AI tools beyond simple autocomplete
**Agenda:**
\* 6:00pm\~6:30pm: Checkin, Food and Networking
\* 6:30pm\~6:45pm: Welcome/community update
\* 6:45pm\~8:30pm: Tech talks and Q&A
\* 8:30pm\~9:30pm: Open discussion & Mixer
**Tech Talk: AI Governance for Developers**
**Speaker:** Eric Paulsen, Field CTO, Coder
**Abstract:** In this session, we will deep dive into AI governance for developers. We will explores the often-unseen risks developers face when using AI tools—from unintended data exposure to tool lock-in—and how teams can implement lightweight, developer-friendly governance. Learn how to build secure, standardized AI workflows that provide guardrails without slowing innovation, so you can ship with confidence.
**Speakers/Topics:**

Automate All the Things?
🏎️ **If you’re not automating yet… you probably are.**
Be honest: how much of your job are you already secretly automating, and how much of it is just automation in disguise?
In this session, **[Ellis Pratt](https://www.linkedin.com/in/ellispratt/)**, director of **[Cherryleaf](https://www.cherryleaf.com/)**, will take a clear, no-hype look at automation in technical communication. He’ll rewind to where things stood just over a year ago, then discuss what’s changed since.
We’ll explore how automation shows up across the technical writing lifecycle, and common pitfalls that come with it.
Finally, we’ll look ahead. What does increasing automation really mean for our careers as technical writers and documentarians?
Join us for an honest, practical conversation about what to automate, what not to, and how to stay relevant as the tools keep changing.
**📣 This event is aimed at technical writers and those working in closely related roles. The discussion will focus on automation and AI specifically in the context of technical documentation and technical content workflows.**

Battersea Park - plus Power and Pumps
**Battersea Park – plus Power and Pumps**
This walk is presented by Central London Humanists and led by Robert Hall. Humanists believe we have just one life to be lived rationally and well, with compassion for others.
This event is a guided walk of +/- 2.25 hours pointing out places of interest. We will be walking 4 Km / 2.4 miles.
As befits a walk in winter it will be walked at a moderate pace.
Whilst the grand power station still dominates the landscape it has competition from the new-build flats which have transformed the appearance of the area. However the walk is primarily based on Battersea park which was one of the main locations for the Festival of Britain in 1951 and still has features from that event. The large pagoda is a major surprise as are the many sculptures including one that is deliberately away from the main paths. Plus the Victorians certainly knew how to design elegant pumphouses!
**Date:** Saturday 21st February 2026
**Time:** 2 pm with a prompt departure at 2.15 pm
**Place:** Meet at exit of Battersea Power Station **underground station** at the top level. (**NOT** at Battersea Power Station building.) **Turn left after the ticket barriers.**
It is strongly suggested you find us using: [https://what3words.com/cure.bench.junior](https://what3words.com/cure.bench.junior) \- or the What3Words app\.
The nearest toilets are in the Duchess Belle, 101 Battersea Park Road SW8 4DS (across the main road) or in the Battersea Power Station building. There will be a very brief toilet stop on the walk.
**Finishes:** About 4.30 pm at Battersea Power Station underground station or join us for refreshments at the Duchess Belle, 101 Battersea Park Road SW8 4DS.
The walk is led by Robert – 07981963681. He can be contacted for further information but please note he won’t be able to respond to messages or calls after the walk has started.
**The formal bit:**
These walks are not suitable for dogs, sorry.
CLH events are 18+ unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
If you have signed up but find you can't attend, please change your RSVP on Meetup (it’s very easy to do) as soon as possible so that an accurate numbers of attenders can be estimated.
You are responsible for your own actions and safety; there is no liability on the walk leader or CLH for anything that may happen on the walk.
You must be able to keep up with the walk leader at 4 Km/h (2.5 mph) for 5 Km (3 miles). It is participants' responsibility to safely cross roads.
Where appropriate, pedestrian controlled lights will be used and obeyed unless it is obvious that the whole group can cross safely.
When the group stops at a point of interest, please be mindful not to block pavements so members of the public can pass by safely.
Don’t forget this is the UK and it may rain at any time! The walk will go ahead whatever the weather unless conditions are dangerous so please bring clothing for all seasons.
**A donation of £3 to Central London Humanists would be appreciated.**
The majority of Central London Humanists events are free, but we welcome a £3 contribution per head. This helps towards the running and organising of events, as well as various admin expenses. If you can't attend and would still like to contribute, or would prefer to pay online, please **[click here](https://checkout.square.site/merchant/ML71XMH66FX5E/checkout/ALWCDLQ3S7AVPLFZ62PZGXLU)**.
We encourage dialogue, debate, and sharing of information, but ask people to keep their comments cordial. Any individual's views expressed (most definitely including the walk leader!) do not necessarily reflect the views of the group at large.

Our meetings are a great place to work on and show off what you do. We are always welcoming.
Our format is great for people who have started on but not finished one or several side projects.
We will start off with basic introductions and what we are working on and what our goals are. We’ll break the rest of the meeting into two working sessions. In between, we’ll do a quick check-in to see how folks are going.
Then we will conclude with showcasing and networking.

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Hidden Cleopatra
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“The Hidden Cleopatra,”** an excavation through myth and slander to uncover the real Egyptian queen, with Jacquelyn Williamson, an Egyptologist and associate professor of archaeology and ancient art at George Mason University.
[Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/hidden-cleopatra](https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/hidden-cleopatra) .]
Depictions of Cleopatra are abundant in popular culture. A long list of painters have depicted her, Marilyn Monroe and Kim Kardashian have posed as her, and Vivien Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor famously portrayed her in Hollywood films.
At the end of the day, however, what most of us think we know about Cleopatra is wrong, the product of the ancient Rome’s “fake news” and anti-Egypt propaganda.
Learn about the real Cleopatra—and how our understanding of her came to be so distorted—with Professor Jacquelyn Williamson, scholar of women and power in ancient Egypt, teacher of courses on ancient Egyptian art and archaeology, and author of *Nefertiti’s Sun Temple: A New Cult Complex at Tell el-Amarna.*
Dr. Williamson will walk us through how the first Roman emperor, Octavian, created the distorted image of Cleopatra as seductress that we know today as part of his political scheming to defeat his rival Antony and end the Roman Republic once and for all.
Cleopatra has been the subject of debate and controversy ever since. William Shakespeare later relied on ancient Roman sources such as Horace and Plutarch in writing *Antony and Cleopatra*, and his play helped give rise to countless other works offering a distorted picture of her.
Professor Williamson argues that “Cleopatra was a human being, like you and I,” and “deserves the dignity of being represented as accurately as possible.” Her efforts to set the record straight have met frustration, however—after being extensively interviewed for the recent Netflix historical docuseries Queen Cleopatra, she concluded that it, too, had missed the mark.
You’ll gain a much deeper appreciation of the challenges of researching and accurately depicting the ancient past from Dr. Williamson, who also has taught at Harvard, Brandeis, and the University of California at Berkeley and is involved with an ongoing archaeological investigation of Queen Nefertiti’s sun temple. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.)

NOVA Code and Coffee is an inclusive, informal, co-working session. People of all skill levels are invited. The concept is simple, bring a laptop and ideas, we'll provide the coffee and donuts! Here's how it works:
1. At 10:15 everyone introduces themselves and briefly describes what brought them to Code & Coffee today (project, homework, networking, etc)
2. For the rest of the day, folks work in the communal space on their projects providing one another help and conversation as needed. Oh and they usually drink coffee and tea too!
That's it! Hope to see you there!
