Civic Tech Working Session: Platform & Public AI Infrastructure
Civic Tech Working Session: Platform & Public AI Infrastructure
This is the first in-person working session for the Abundance Federation Dublin group. We’re bringing together a small group of engineers, designers, and data-minded people to work on real civic tech. We already have: * a working Kindness & volunteering platform (profiles, communities, messaging, tasks, incentives) * early infrastructure plans for building public, ethically governed AI datasets To reach our goals we need focused work to deliver usable MVPs. On the night we’ll: * walk through the current platform (warts and all) * outline the data infrastructure work at a high level * break into small groups to identify: * what’s most broken * what’s feasible for volunteers * who wants to keep working on what This first session is primarily aimed at people interested in helping shape and build the technical foundations — engineering, design, data infrastructure, or product. That said, the wider group is deliberately mixed. Not everyone here will write code, and that’s expected. Over the coming months we’ll also be forming: * data collection and annotation teams (including student and adult groups), * testing and feedback groups for the platform, * and field-based activities (e.g. environmental and farming data days). If you’re interested in those kinds of contributions, you’re very welcome — this first meetup is just the starting point. The Meet Up will be: * In-person, in the Digital Hub, Dublin * Thursday Feb 12th , 7–9pm * Pizza and soft drinks provided * We’ll aim to finish on time around 9pm. * For anyone who’s up for it, a few of us will likely head to a nearby pub afterward

Social Drawing
Social Drawing
We are organizing this event for people that want to explore their creativity and practice expressing themselves through drawing. The event contains a variety of small games and exercises to connect with others in a fun and original way. A lot of times we find ourselves stuck with a problem or thought, either consciously or unconsciously. Being able to draw or doodle about it can often help. When I felt stuck in life, it gave me a lot of inspiration to draw how I felt. It was always a creative and refreshing way of structuring my problem and looking at it from a different perspective. I’m now looking forward to practicing more of this. I will bring paper and pens, that we need for the exercises. Feel free to bring your own drawing tools (colors, sketchbooks, pencils, etc.). No drawing experience is required Details: **Time:** Thursday 04-12-2025, 7:25pm to 9pm **Location:** abbey presbyterian church (Parnell Square N, Rotunda, Dublin 1, Ireland) top floor **Cost:** We ask a €5 fee to pay for the venue and help support the group **Punctuality:** Please do your best to arrive on time, so we have less interruptions during the event. *More info about the possible benefits of drawing:* [http://www.thedrawingwebsite.com/2013/07/31/the-benefits-of-drawing-2/](http://www.thedrawingwebsite.com/2013/07/31/the-benefits-of-drawing-2/) **Keep in touch with us:** [https://activesocialconnections.com](https://activesocialconnections.com)

reviving gardans, Growing community
reviving gardans, Growing community
**Hands in the Soil: Community Growing, Learning & Craic** This first gathering will be a relaxed mix of **hands-on garden work, shared learning, and good conversation**. It’s about getting together in a real space, doing something practical, and seeing what ideas and connections might grow from there. On the day, we’ll: * Get our **hands dirty** with some light garden work and soil prep * Do some **seed sowing** and talk about what grows well locally * **Make kombucha together** and chat about fermentation, food, and simple home practices * Share knowledge, questions, and experiences around growing food * Enjoy some **fellowship, chats, and a bit of craic** along the way.Alongside the practical side, we’ll also have an open, informal discussion about a bigger idea: * The possibility of **small community “park farms” or gardens** in underused green spaces around Dublin * What that might look like, what’s realistic, and whether others feel drawn to exploring it further There’s no pressure, no expertise required, and no expectation beyond showing up with curiosity and a willingness to pitch in. Whether you’re experienced with gardening or completely new, you’re very welcome. Bring clothes you don’t mind getting muddy, and if you have them, gloves. Everything else will be very low-key. This is just a **first step** — a chance to meet, work, talk, and see if there’s a shared appetite to keep growing something together.

Native Plant Book Club: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
Native Plant Book Club: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
Join our partners Watermark Woods Native Plants, Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL), and Birch Tree Bookstore for the Read! Plant! Grow! Book Club, which focuses on native plants, sponsored by Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and LCPL. At this meeting we’ll discuss the book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. Both memoir and journalistic investigation, this book explores how the Kingsolver family took on a new challenge: to spend a year on a locally -produced diet, paying close attention to the provenance of all they consume. Concerned about the environmental, social, and physical costs of American food culture, they hoped to recover what Kingsolver considers our nation’’s lost appreciation for farms and the natural processes of food production. You can either buy the book from Birch Tree Bookstore or contact Allison Forbes at [Allison.forbes@loudoun.gov](mailto:Allison.forbes@loudoun.gov) to borrow a copy of the book at the library. There are two ways to participate: attend the event online via the library website or [sign up to participate in person at Birch Tree Bookstore](https://www.birchtreebookstore.com/event-details/read-plant-grow-2026-02-24-18-30). ***Questions:*** *Contact [info@loudounwildlife.org](mailto:info@loudounwildlife.org)*.
