Sangha Night
Sangha (or 'spiritual community') Night is a chance for those practicing meditation and Buddhism to come together. The evening usually consists of a period of meditation, a talk about Buddhism and a Puja after a short tea-break.
**Practical details:**
The night will start at 7pm sharp so arrive a little early to ensure a punctual start.
**7 pm** – Meditation
**7.25 pm** – Talk with Questions and Answers
**8.10 pm** – Tea-Break
**8.30 pm** – Puja

This event is for:
* Sangha members both new and long-standing.
* Meditators or Buddhists with some experience who want to visit the Dublin Buddhist Centre for the first time.

Each month there will be an overarching theme, and each week will be a Buddhist Talk on some aspect of that theme.

**1\. The Covenant of Water – Abraham Verghese**
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water follows a family in southern India that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning - and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century a twelve-year-old girl, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time. From this poignant beginning, the young girl and future matriarch - known as Big Ammachi - will witness unthinkable changes at home and at large over the span of her extraordinary life, full of the joys and trials of love and the struggles of hardship.
A shimmering evocation of a lost India and of the passage of time itself, The Covenant of Water is a hymn to progress in medicine and to human understanding, and a humbling testament to the hardships undergone by past generations for the sake of those alive today. Imbued with humour, deep emotion and the essence of life, it is one of the most masterful literary novels published in recent years.
**2\. Say Nothing – Patrick Redden Keefe**
One night in December 1972, Jean McConville, a mother of ten, was abducted from her home in Belfast and never seen alive again. Her disappearance would haunt her orphaned children, the perpetrators of this terrible crime and a whole society in Northern Ireland for decades. In this powerful, scrupulously reported book, Patrick Radden Keefe offers not just a forensic account of a brutal crime but a vivid portrait of the world in which it happened. The tragedy of an entire country is captured in the spellbinding narrative of a handful of characters, presented in lyrical and unforgettable detail. A poem by Seamus Heaney inspires the title: ‘Whatever You Say, Say Nothing’. By defying the culture of silence, Keefe illuminates how a close-knit society fractured; how people chose sides in a conflict and turned to violence; and how, when the shooting stopped, some ex-combatants came to look back in horror at the atrocities they had committed, while others continue to advocate violence even today. Say Nothing deftly weaves the stories of Jean McConville and her family with those of Dolours Price, the first woman to join the IRA as a front-line soldier, who bombed the Old Bailey when barely out of her teens; Gerry Adams, who helped bring an end to the fighting, but denied his own IRA past; Brendan Hughes, a fearsome IRA commander who turned on Adams after the peace process and broke the IRA’s code of silence; and other indelible figures. Centro Cultural Capoeira Água de Beber (CECAB) – Capoeira Água de Beber Cultural Centre – is a non-profit organization, founded officially in January 2002. Its pivot activity is Capoeira (classes, rodas, workshops, public presentations, cultural events, performances), however it aggregates other cultural manifestations as: samba de roda, maculelê, frevo, ciranda, dança do coco, dança afro, puxada de rede, craftworks workshops of making and playing music instruments, video projections, movies, lectures about relevant cultural topics and matters related to enforcement of citizenship.
All the activities realized through CECAB are designated to execution of social responsibility projects, further on the sportive, cultural and artistic activities through the realization of the shows, presentations and events related to Capoeira and Brazilian culture.

Zazen Meditation + Dharma talk or Kinhin
The meaning of the word zen is meditation, zazen means sitting meditation. In zazen practice we begin to know ourselves, and to go beyond the limits of our personal ego. Within our tradition zazen is referred to as shikantaza, not doing, letting go of thoughts, dropping off body and mind. This sitting meditation is the focus of our practice. Language limits our ability to communicate the true nature of zen; it is something that is better understood
through practice. We are open to everyone interested in learning about zen.
Intro workshop for newcomers is available at 5.30pm each Sunday. The dojo is a sacred place and it is important to be considerate of everyone. We have many people that travel to practise together once a week or once a month. So for that reason it is really essential that we all know the structure of the sitting practise (when to sit, how to do Kinhin, the different bell sounds and their meaning etc), to ensure a silent, safe and meaningful meditation. And it's also great to meet everyone before the sitting practise. And answer any questions you may have.
We have zafus and zabutons (mats and cushions) for all to sit on. Chairs are available too.
Comfortable clothing for sitting, black or neutral tones best.
We greatly appreciate a donation of €5 to cover costs if it's possible for you.
Please arrive 10min before start so 6ish (if you're not doing the intro workshop).

Dublin German Speakers (learners Stammtisch)
This group is for people who don't feel their German is strong enough for the Deutsch Sprechen Stammtisch. Anyone from complete beginner to native German speaker is welcome. All you need is a willingness to learn and speak German (or as much German as you can) and a willingness to help and be patient with other people who have less German than you have. The aim of this group is to build the confidence as well as ability to speak German in real life situations with others.

Dublin Runners Saturday Morning Run 7km to 16 km
This event is for anyone seeking a social run with like minded people. It will consist of 2 loops. the first loop will be run at 6 20 - 6 30 per km pace and will be about 7 km in length. We will then join with the main Dublin Runners group at 9:00 am back at the Visitors Centre (VC), where a variety of pace options will be available.
Some of us are using this to prepare for spring half or full marathons. if this is your plan we may be an ideal group for you to consider and a few of us will be starting even earlier for a few extra kms.
This second loop will be approximately 10 km to 12 km. So you can choose to join at 8 15 am or 9 00 am. Please arrive 5 mins early as we are firm about start times. We usually finish with tea and cake in the cafe in the VC. If your pace is lower than 6 30 per km for about 8 km this run may not be for you.
If doing both loops could you sign in to both this one and the 9:00 one also please. If you have any questions contact Harry.

We do not have a dress code, but recommend any decent, comfortable wear or smart casual wear.

Our events are varied and diverse ranging from music and meditation to cultural and spiritual exhibitions and other creative explorations. We offer meditation at all our events. Depending on the event, our workshop focuses on a particular topic and then we provide guided meditation and offer simple techniques to maintain balance. These techniques may include the use of elements such as water and light that make the meditative experience very enjoyable. We also have time for questions and individual queries and teach how to meditate at home at each workshop..
**Do I need to bring anything?**
