Physical AI @ ST Engineering x DSSG
Physical AI @ ST Engineering x DSSG
**Details** Happy New Year to everyone =). We would like to kickstart this year with a series of talks by AI Scientists from ST Engineering on Physical AI. Starting with an architecture that connects the three pillars of Physical AI (Agentic, Spatial & Robotics), we will explore why successful Agentic AI systems require moving beyond standalone tools to integrate business processes, infrastructure, and ROI-driven strategy for lasting organisational impact. We will also explore the frontiers of Spatial Intelligence and Robotics Intelligence, dissecting the algorithms that allow diverse, heterogeneous robots to coordinate and compete in complex, high-stakes environments. We are moving our events to Luma! **Please subscribe to the DSSG calendar on Luma.** You can find it [here](https://luma.com/datascienceSG?k=c). **Agenda** 6:30 PM – 7:00 PM Registration & Networking 7:00 PM – 7:15 PM Introduction to Physical AI @ ST Engineering by Kai Xin 7:15 PM – 7:35 PM Agentic AI - Why AI Tools Alone Don’t Create Successful AI Systems by Michal 7:35 PM – 7:55 PM Spatial AI - When World Model Meets Humanoid by Ruofei 7:55 PM – 8:15 PM Robotics AI - Robust Physical AI by William 8:15 PM – 8:30 PM Q&A and Closing **Synopsis** Agentic AI - Why AI Tools Alone Don’t Create Successful AI Systems Today, powerful AI tools are everywhere, yet most organisations still struggle to translate them into real business impact. Why is that? In this talk, Michal shares perspectives from consulting business units, evaluating AI startups, and designing end-to-end AI systems. He explains why many widely adopted tools, despite being technically impressive, fail to meaningfully transform organisations—and what needs to change for AI to deliver lasting value. The discussion moves beyond tools into the broader system: business processes, ROI and outcome measurement, software engineering discipline, self-hosting and infrastructure considerations, and model selection strategy. Attendees will leave with practical tips on what it actually takes to move from AI adoption to AI impact. Spatial AI - When World Model Meets Humanoid Dive into the frontier of Spatial Intelligence where generative agent-based simulations meet the reasoning power of LLMs and VLMs. We will discuss the architecture of scalable data factories designed to fuel robust robotics training and bridge the gap between virtual reasoning and physical execution. Join us to explore how these converged technologies are accelerating the development of advanced humanoid applications and embodied AI. Robotics AI - Robust Physical AI Uncover why Physical AI’s upcoming challenge is less about making smarter plans and more about executing reliably in the real world. Learn how coordination breaks down at scale and how NEAR Lab focuses on turning research into deployable autonomy. **Speakers** [Kai Xin Thia](https://www.linkedin.com/in/thiakx/) is VP at ST Engineering Group Technology Office (GTO), heading the AI.DA Strategic Technology Centre (STC). L-Lab Business Presentation
L-Lab Business Presentation
## 1 Million Cups Loudoun – January 14 ### Business Presentation Featuring Yomna Sarhan of L-Lab **Wednesday\, January 14 \| 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM** **Venture X Loudoun – Ashburn** Join us for our January 14th **1 Million Cups Loudoun** meeting as we welcome **Yomna Sarhan**, founder of **L-Lab**, an innovative after-school enrichment program designed to transform how children learn and grow beyond the classroom. ### About the Presenter Yomna Sarhan brings a diverse and impressive background to her entrepreneurial journey. She is a former **project manager overseeing $8M+ in government contracts**, has led **multidisciplinary teams of more than 20 employees**, and is a **multilingual consultant** who has worked in over **10 countries**. Yomna also founded a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the **Society of Egyptian American Professionals**, reflecting her long-standing commitment to education and community development. ### About the Business L-Lab was born out of a personal experience. When Yomna’s daughter was entering kindergarten, she discovered a lack of high-quality, enriching after-school programs in Loudoun County. Many existing programs focused solely on supervision rather than meaningful learning—despite children spending 10–15 hours per week and families investing significant resources in aftercare. L-Lab is changing that narrative. L-Lab is an **after-school language immersion enrichment program** for elementary-aged children, blending: * STEAM-based learning * Social-emotional development * Montessori-inspired approaches In addition to after-school programming, L-Lab offers **full-day camps** during school breaks, including winter, spring, and teacher workdays. ### Where Yomna Is Now L-Lab is currently in the **launch/startup phase**, with the full after-school program beginning in early January and a winter break program running at the end of December. Yomna is focused on enrollment, program validation, and building a strong foundation for growth. ### Feedback Yomna Is Seeking from the Community Yomna is coming to the 1 Million Cups stage looking for thoughtful feedback and insight on key challenges, including: * How to **shift the mindset around after-school programs** from “time-filling childcare” to meaningful enrichment * The most strategic way to **scale after a successful pilot** (January–June): * Expanding curriculum into schools * Focusing on one location first * How to **find and retain high-quality part-time staff** aligned with L-Lab’s mission and values ### Who Should Attend Yomna would especially love to have: * Entrepreneurs with experience **scaling service-based businesses** * Founders who have **modified or diversified offerings as they grew** * Parents and guardians interested in education, enrichment, and after-school programming ### What Is 1 Million Cups? 1 Million Cups is a national program powered by the Kauffman Foundation that brings together entrepreneurs and community members for weekly conversations that educate, support, and inspire. Loudoun’s chapter meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. Join us on **January 14 at 9:00 AM** for coffee, connection, and a meaningful conversation about reimagining after-school education in Loudoun County. **We look forward to seeing you there.**

Learn & Play Go-Stop, a Korean Card Game
Learn & Play Go-Stop, a Korean Card Game
**FOR BEGINNERS** If you've ever seen Korean movies or K-dramas, you may have seen some characters play with small red cards decorated with flowers and animals. Those cards are called "hwatu" or flower cards. The most popular game played with hwatu is "Go-Stop". Come to the inaugural meeting of Hwatu Hangout, and learn how to play this awesome game. It can take some time to orient yourself with the cards and rules, but once you do, there's no turning back. It's major fun. **FOR EXPERIENCED PLAYERS** No Tazza-style deck rigging or hand chopping. Most importantly, no gambling. We may play with plastic chips to raise the faux stakes, but that's it! If you'd like to skip the lesson/demo, then please arrive at 2p for game play. **THE PLAN** **1:00p - 1:30p**: Learn how to play **1:30p - 2:00p**: Demo Game **2:00p - 4:00p**: Game play Before attending, please complete [this interest form](https://forms.gle/BNyZuZSZBzmDKQNA7). I will bring some hwatu decks, but please bring a deck if you have one. Questions? Send an email to hwatuhangout (at) gmail (dot) com Hope to see you there! Eunice
