**Visit one of the Marais's most historical mansions** Hotel de Beauvais holds its name from **Catherine de Beauvais**, lady in waiting to the Queen in the 1640's. Nicknamed "One-eye Cathy", she happened to give young **Louis XIV**, his first lessons in bed. The mansion is a sign of the king's gratitude. As a Bavarian Embassy, the building also saw young **Mozart** stay there when he came to Paris at the end of the 18th century, before one of Paris' most notorious gambling place settled there. After the French Revolution, like many Marais mansions, the **Hotel de Beauvais** was stripped from its outstanding decors and parted into numerous flats and small factories. The yard of honor has now been restored and shows a **sumptuous decor** as well as an original and rare layout, due to the lack of space. The visit will also highlight the 13th century **Gothic vaulted cellars** and a **superb elliptic staircase** at the back of the courtyard. The building, has retained **the beautiful staircase of honor** from the 17th century, used by so many famous guests. Plein de choses à voir et des lieux à l'histoire intéressante, donc plein de raisons de venir. On commencera à côté du métro Raymond Queneau et on finira près du RER Pantin. Prévoir 3h. Prix libre. Beaucoup de personnes vous diront Montmartre, mais les habitants du Haut Belleville ne seront pas d'accord. Et si on faisait une balade entre les deux collines pour vérifier ? On partira de la sortie du métro Place des Fêtes (pas tout à fait le point le plus haut de la Rue de Belleville, mais tant pis) et on finira devant la Basilique du Sacré Cœur. En chemin, je vous montrerai quelques lieux moins connus. Attention, c'est une balade assez longue (plus de 5km) et avec quelques escaliers assez méchants. Je dois être à Montmartre (un peu plus loin que le Sacré Cœur) à 15h, donc on ne sera pas très lents. Mais on ne fera pas non plus la course. Plutôt marche sportive que power hiking. Comme toujours, je pense que mon travail mérite une récompense, mais ça n'est pas une obligation.

I invite you to join something a bit different from our usual hikes: a **night hike** in the **Forêt de Meudon**, just **outside Paris**. It’s a unique experience to feel the forest in total darkness and enjoy some beautiful **night views over Paris**. We meet in **Meudon Train Station (ligne N)**; from there, we’ll start our climb towards the Observatoire de Meudon area, where we’ll catch our first panoramic views of Paris illuminated at night. In the second part of our hike, we’ll leave the forest near Clamart, where more stunning night views await. From there, we’ll descend towards **Mairie d’Issy** (metro line 12), where our hike will end. !!! **The Night Hiking Project** is an idea to explore the outdoors from a different perspective. Join our weekly walking meetup to have fun, maintain a healthy lifestyle, meet new people, and enjoy the weather! We meet Saturdays at 10am, halfway between the Reston *Container Store* and *Not Your Average Joes* (by the metal benches), leaving no later than 10:05. Every week, rain or shine, we start by walking along the Green Trail to reach Lake Anne Community Center. Once there, we pause for water/bio (often staying a few minutes extra from April-November, due to the local Farmer's Market), and then we circle Lake Anne and head back to our starting point. It's roughly 3-4 miles and takes about an hour and a half. Afterwards, some members will often head to *Not Your Average Joes* or another local restaurant for a quick drink/meal before tackling the day. This event is open to all ages and fitness levels. Dogs are welcome, and we recommend dressing for the weather (umbrella, water, snow shoes, hat, etc.) since we'll walk rain or shine. Also, feel free to bring a friend!
