Who Takes Care of the Ones Who Care for Others? With Sister Jenna
### **A Day of Restoration for Those Who Serve**
On Martin Luther King Jr.’s National Day of Service, we pause to honor not only the act of serving others, but the hearts and minds of those who give so much of themselves every day.
Caregivers, teachers, government workers, leaders, medical professionals, healers, parents, activists, and community servers often place everyone else’s needs before their own. Over time, this quiet self-sacrifice can lead to exhaustion, emotional depletion, and loss of inner clarity.
This special session offers a sacred space to rest, reflect, and replenish. Through an uplifting talk and guided meditation, we will explore how self-care is not selfish, but essential, especially for those committed to service. You’ll reconnect with your inner strength, restore emotional balance, and leave feeling renewed, supported, and seen.
Serving others begins with caring for yourself. **You give so much, this day is for you!**

**Weather/Cancellation Policy:** All participants will be notified via email at least 12 hours before the event start time if an event is canceled due to inclement weather. If you do not hear from us you should assume the event will occur as scheduled.

Real Talk
**Tired of surface-level conversations?**
Join us for *Real Talk*—an evening of deep, real connection with strangers who are down to go there.
We’ll meet at the church (we are a secular group), break into small groups, and draw questions from a deck of cards designed to spark vulnerable, honest conversations.
***Rules:***
1. Don't debate politics.
2. Keep what is shared in the group within the group.
3. If you need to use your phone, step away from your group first.
\*\*If you show up late, please hop into a group and don't interrupt the speaker. Just sit down in a group of your choice, and they'll bring you up to speed when whoever is talking finishes.
Community of Christ church: 3526 Massachusetts Ave.
PS—If you want to support the group (Meetup organizer fees, new card games, misc. materials) then you can buy me a coffee here:

^^This is 100% optional, and can be done on a one-time or monthly basis. But the meetup will always be free. Thanks! 🙏
Meaningful Conversation and Morning Coffee - Northside Social Falls Church
**Join us in Falls Church for conversations that go beyond small talk.**
Higher Grounds – Falls Church is where this growing network of gatherings began: a space for thoughtful, authentic dialogue about what matters most. Whether we’re exploring the nature of happiness, the challenges and possibilities of midlife, spirituality, culture, capitalism, parenting, or the role of art and travel in a meaningful life, every conversation is shaped by the people in the room.
There’s no set leader or rigid agenda—just a shared commitment to listen as much as we speak. We start with brief introductions focused on what makes you *you* (not your LinkedIn bio), then dive straight into whatever is on people’s minds. The direction of each meetup emerges organically, making every event unique.
MANDATORY: PLEASE REVIEW OUR COMMUNITY GUIDELINES IN THE GROUP DESCRIPTION. Everyone is expected to engage in respectful conversations and listen deeply as well as share. We have a zero tolerance policy of sexual harassment and hate speech.
Come ready to share, reflect, and connect with others in Falls Church who are also seeking deeper conversations.

Finding Meaning in Life's Difficulties
**Finding Meaning in Life’s Difficulties (Free Event)**
**Is there hidden value in the difficulties and hardships of life, or are these things just to try to get past as quickly as possible? If so, how can we emerge from the current world crisis we are facing as stronger, more resilient individuals and communities?**
**When we look at the difficult moments of our lives, aren’t those often the times when we grew the most? So many valuable lessons in life and growth opportunities are hard-won, often coming out of these trying moments. So why are we so focused on avoiding these difficulties? From this perspective, how would we as individuals and as a society confront the inevitable struggles we will be faced with? How can we build stronger communities that ensure not only that we don’t have to face struggles alone, but that we as individuals will emerge stronger as well?**
**Come join a different kind of conversation – one that welcomes every perspective in a search for the truths that unite us all – as we discuss the spiritual perspective offered by the Bahá’í Teachings on the opportunity for growth during times of struggle. Join us for a lively discussion as we reflect on the meaning of the struggles of life and explore the true nature of progress.**

Finding Purpose in Retirement with Michael Skoler and Host Sister Jenna
### ***Stepping Back from Work to Lean into Our True Self***
In today’s society, retirement is often viewed as a time to slow down, travel, or finally do the things we never had time for. Yet for many, this transition can also bring unexpected questions about relevance, identity, and purpose, just when we have the wisdom, experience, and perspective to make a meaningful contribution.
In this engaging and reflective program, **Sister Jenna will interview Michael Skoler**, former journalist and Aspen Institute executive, in a heartfelt conversation exploring what purposeful retirement can truly look like. Together, they will examine how stepping away from a career can become an invitation to step more fully into our authentic self, using our life experience to serve, mentor, and support others.
This session offers a fresh perspective on retirement, not as an ending, but as a powerful new chapter of inner freedom, contribution, and conscious living.
