I'm going to do a walk around the greenery of Elm Park & Hornchurch this week, but trying to stay on hard paths. I cannot give a cast iron guarantee that we won't find the odd little dollop of mud though. The last time I did this walk, it clocked in at 9 miles, so I'm looking at cutting some of the padding out this time around. We're meeting at Elm Park Station 11am, when we'll be off through Harrow Lodge Park and over to The Chase & Breton Park. Then its off to Dagenham Village, and Dagenham Parish Church facing the lovely Cross Keys Pub (both pictured above). We'll stop for our mid-walk coffee in the pub. After our coffee break we'll go across Beam Parklands to Ingrebourne Woods and to finish at The Railway Pub by Hornchurch Station where some well deserved (optional) food and/or drink awaits those who are staying. Those parked at the start point can get a train one stop back, or a 252 bus, or do the 0.8 mile walk. You could also park by The Railway in the morning and get a train one stop back to the meet point; then your car is there when we finish. If you choose to park near the start point, there are side roads in Elm Park where the yellow lines don't apply on a Saturday. Diban Avenue RM12 4YH is one example, but there's a lot of parking around. If you're coming by train, its Elm Park Station on the District Line. Elm Park is also served by buses 165, 252, 365, 372. Concerned about the environmental, social, and physical costs of American food culture, they hoped to recover what Kingsolver considers our nation’’s lost appreciation for farms and the natural processes of food production. Join us for a volunteer day helping the animals at Rosie's Farm Sanctuary in Potomac, MD. Before attending this event, you must sign a liability waiver. Wear boots and clothing you don’t mind getting dirty. Feel free to bring a filled water bottle. On sunny days a brimmed hat and sunglasses may be helpful. Sunscreen is also suggested. Please do not bring any food or yummy-smelling items on your body or in your bag as our animals love to eat and are on special diets. Out of respect for the animals, we do not allow any food with animal products to be consumed at Rosie’s Farm Sanctuary. Please ensure that all edible items are plant-based (no dairy, no cheese, no cow’s milk ice cream, no meat, no fish, no eggs). Thank you for your cooperation and respect for this.
