Evocean Kickoff: Connection, Calm & Community for Autoimmune Women
Evocean Kickoff: Connection, Calm & Community for Autoimmune Women
This is our very first Evocean meetup—and it’s intentionally simple. Join us for a relaxed, welcoming gathering for women living with autoimmune conditions who are craving connection, understanding, and a calmer way forward. No pressure. No fixing. Just real conversation and community. We’ll spend time: • Meeting one another in a supportive, judgment-free space • Sharing why we’re here (only if you want to) • Learning a short, gentle nervous system reset you can use anytime • Setting the tone for what this community will become together This is not a medical talk or a support group focused on symptoms. It’s a space to reconnect with yourself and meet women who truly get it. Come exactly as you are. Energy levels welcome. Quiet observers welcome.

Birding by Ear for Beginners especially for Blind and Low Vision participants!
Birding by Ear for Beginners especially for Blind and Low Vision participants!
We will take a very slow walk throughout Alcova Heights Park, which is very flat and has wide pathways. The group leader will use a pair of binoculars if necessary, and seeing participants may use binoculars as well. However, our goal will be for both seeing and blind/low vision persons to hear, identify, and learn the sounds of the birds in the park and potentially develop mnemonics for the bird calls. You might be surprised to find how quickly you will learn the sounds of bird species! We will be aided by the Merlin app, and the group leader will record our bird observations in the eBird app. Over time, we will be able to query eBird to see our growing birding expertise! Participants wishing to use eBird and Merlin type apps, please download them and create accounts ahead of time; we won’t have time to do that during the event.
BreadBreakers Lunch: Travel as a Lens to Different Worldviews
BreadBreakers Lunch: Travel as a Lens to Different Worldviews
**In a time of division and isolation, come be part of the community that's rebuilding the town square, one table at a time.** In BreadBreakers, we use the common space of the dining table to have conversations where neighbors can **hear, be heard, and know one another.** If you're hungry for good discourse and deeper community, join us for lunch and a conversation on ***World’s Diversity on the Table: How Traveling Helps Us Understand Different Worldviews.*** Here’s how it works: For just two hours, a table of people set aside the need to "convince" or "win" and instead focus on sharing, listening, and connecting. Guided by an experienced table host, we'll tell our stories, try to understand each other, and practice being in community with those with different views or backgrounds. In a world of disconnection and surface-level interaction, we'll carve out some time just to be humans together and have a meaningful conversation. We'll be meeting at Wegmans, Upper Level Dining Area - look for your hosts, Albert and Todd. This will be a "bring your own lunch" gathering (or "buy your own", from Wegmans' great self-serve cafe!) BreadBreakers, an initiative by Restoration United Methodist Church in Reston, VA, is a religiously inclusive community where all beliefs, faiths, and stripes are welcomed. Our leadership and volunteer team includes people who attend Restoration and people who don't. **So - why talk about travel? Here's a word from this event's lead host, Albert:** *Travel is more than movement across geography, visiting cities, viewing landscapes and counting distances. Travel is also an inward movement: an encounter with difference that rearranges how we see the world and ourselves.* *When we travel, we are exposed to other ways of organizing life: different assumptions about time and values, family and belonging, work and dignity, authority and trust, hospitality and faith. Even brief encounters can unsettle what we once considered “normal” or self-evident, sometimes gently, sometimes harshly, not too much differently as we may encounter on the other side of our divided country.* *Some of us travel seeking beauty, rest, or novelty. Others travel to escape the noise, to understand, to remember, or simply to feel less confined by familiar routines. And when we return, we often carry more than we expected: stories, questions, discomforts, changed perceptions, or a renewed sense of home. The focus of our discussion is not destinations or expertise. It is about meaning. How encounters with different worldviews leave traces in us—and how those traces shape the way we interpret our own world once we return.* *Each experience is partial, each perspective incomplete, and yet, together, we can see more of the whole. Shared at the table, such diversity becomes something lived rather than abstract.* *This conversation shall prompt us to reflect on two simple questions:* 1. ***What do we look for when we travel to other places and cultures?*** 2. ***And what do we bring back—beyond souvenirs and photographs?*** We look forward to breaking bread and stories with you.

Exploring Clopper Lake in Seneca Creek State Park, a 6.5-Mile Hike
Exploring Clopper Lake in Seneca Creek State Park, a 6.5-Mile Hike
**Exploring Clopper Lake in Seneca Creek State Park, a 6.5-Mile Hike** IMPORTANT: Due to snow and ice, microspikes are REQUIRED to participate on this hike. If you arrive without them, you will not be allowed to join the hike. This is for your own safely. Nestled in the heart of Maryland, Seneca Creek State Park is a sprawling expanse of natural beauty, rich with diverse habitats, scenic vistas, and a sense of tranquility that draws visitors from near and far. The park encompasses an impressive 6,300 acres, stretching along 14 meandering miles of the picturesque Seneca Creek as it weaves its way toward the Potomac River. At the heart of Seneca Creek Park lies the Clopper Day-Use Area, a favorite destination for both casual visitors and seasoned naturalists. Here one finds a remarkable diversity of scenic areas, each with its own allure. The highlight, however, is undoubtedly Clopper Lake—a woodland-enveloped, 90-acre expanse of tranquil water. This 6.5-mile, modestly hilly water-side hike follows a loop around Clopper Lake and through its surrounding forest. It passes through oak and hickory woods that harbor dogwoods, redbuds, pines, and mountain laurels. With only 404 feet of elevation change, the trail is accessible to most, offering a satisfying challenge without the rigors of steep climbs. **Time to Meet**: Please meet at 10:15 for introductions and sign in. We will start hiking promptly at 10:30. **Directions to Trailhead READ CAREFULLY**: The GPS Coordinates are 39.151561, -77.248895 The address is 11950 Clopper Road, Gaithersburg, MD. Staunton River State Park - Sunset & Stargazing
BYO... well, lots of stuff. Our goal for this park visit is to relax. We'll perch along the banks of where the Dan and Staunton rivers meet, and enjoy our picnic dinners and sip warm drinks as we watch the sunset over the water, and then light fade into darkness. Then we'll spend some time sitting back and studying the night sky. There's so much more going on out there than we realize day to day. As a certified Dark Sky location, on a clear night, I'm told you can see the Milky Way. Bring: Blanket/chair, warm drinks, dinner/snacks, a telescope, binoculars, astronomy apps, star maps and a sense of wonder.
