Let’s play... Mothership / The Skeletons / Reactors and Romance
Join us every Sunday and tell a story as a group by playing a beginner-friendly roleplaying game. Every week we have 2-3 different games. All materials provided and rules are explained at the start of each game, you just need to bring your imagination.
🎭 **This week's facilitators:**
* 🚀 **Axel** with another mission that will likely end in horror in *Mothership*. The Vagnerov Outback lies at the extreme edge of human interstellar expansion, far out in the black where the stars grow thin and the colonists huddle beneath their domes, never quite sure if the night holds more than simple darkness. What will the freelance troubleshooters of pinward Solutions Independent Contractors discover this time?
* 💀 **Emil** flipping the script on the classic dungeon crawl in *The Skeletons*, in which you'll play guardians cursed to spend eternity defending a tomb. You stand vigilant before the sarcophagus without thought or breath-such is your compulsion. You do not remember your name and still you watch. The flesh has fallen off your bones and still you watch. And then one day there is light and motion and you weigh your bearded axe and raise your shield, lusting for the fray, eager to measure your skill against these tomb-robbing children so full of blood.
* 🤖Richard guiding hot-shot mech pilots in *Reactors and Romance*, a rules-light, narrative-focused, one-shot-oriented RPG featuring mechs and flirting. As you pilot your giant mech, the reactor generates heat and the strain on your mech builds up. But pushing your mech to its limits also increases your charisma...

January Repair Cafe
Bring your broken tech and trinkets to get them fixed by the skilled volunteers at TOG Hackerspace – with a bit of help from our friends at Dublin Maker!
On **Sunday, 18 January 2026**, between **12 pm and 4 pm**, TOG Hackerspace will host the first Repair Cafe of the new year in our own space. At this event, volunteers will share their expertise and passion for repair, helping you fix your broken items and breathe new life into them. Whether it’s a malfunctioning gadget, a piece of clothing in need of mending, or a household item that’s seen better days, bring it along and let the team work their magic.
### What can you bring in?
* Clothes and accessories
* Toys
* Small electrical appliances and electronics
* Small furniture
… and many other things!
Safety testing (PAT) for electrical devices will be available.
### What happens at a repair cafe?
At the Repair Café, you sit down with a fixer and work together on your item. You can learn how to repair it yourself, or simply watch and learn from the volunteers while enjoying a tea or coffee. TOG members will also be on hand to give you a tour of the space while you wait.
It’s not a drop-off service – it’s a shared, social repair session. Even if something can’t be fixed, you’ll at least go home knowing what went wrong and what your options are.
### Why join a repair cafe?
Repair Cafés are a great way to support a circular economy, reduce waste, and extend the life of your belongings. Every successful repair keeps resources in use for longer, saves money, and keeps items out of the bin.
They’re also a lovely way to meet people, swap stories about well-loved objects, and pick up new skills in a relaxed setting.
### Where and when?
**Where?** – TOG Hackerspace, Unit 1B Motor City, Kylemore Road, Dublin 12, D12 CF6V
**When?** – Sunday 18 January 2026, 12 pm – 4 pm
Admission is free – but please **book a ticket so we can plan numbers** – all are welcome!

River Liffey, Chapelizod & Phoenix Park walk
This coming Sunday (18th January) we're having another walk - along the banks of the River Liffey to Chapelizod and back through Phoenix Park.
From the meeting point we will walk to the nearby gardens of the Royal Hospital at Kilmainham and then to the War Memorial Park. On leaving the park we shall continue along the river (where rowers are often seen practising their sport) to the lovely village of Chapelizod. We shall make a short detour to Chapelizod island, to see the weir which belonged to an old flax mill. We shall then enter Phoenix Park and climb a small hill to the 4,000 year old Knockmaree Dolmen before passing the Wellington Monument on our return to Heuston Station.
If it's dry and warm enough, we'll probably have a picnic in the War Memorial Park or in Phoenix Park, so bring some food and drink if you wish. There's a Spar shop in Chapelizod.
In Phoenix Park, we have a good chance of seeing deer. Please remember that these lovely animals are still wild animals and can attack when they feel threatened especially when they have young deer. Signs in the park indicate that it's prohibited to feed the deer and recommend to stay at least 50 metres away from them.
[Date] 18th January (SUNDAY)
[Time] 12:00 \~ 16:00
[Place] Outside Heuston Station in front of the entrance to the Galway Hooker bar.
If you're taking the Luas then please make sure you get the Red Line. The meeting point can easily be seen from Heuston Luas stop.
We hope to see you there!

FAQs
1. Is there a charge for this event? No, this is a free event. Sometimes we have events that involve a visit to a museum or garden with an entrance fee - but this will be clearly marked in the details
2. Is it OK for people on a short visit to Ireland to join this walk? Yes both visitors and residents alike are welcome to join our walks.
3. How easy/difficult is this walk? Most walking groups would classify this as an easy walk. That said, we will be walking for a few hours (at a fairly leisurely pace) so having a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
4. Why are there only a limited number of places for this event? To ensure the best possible experience for the people attending it is necessary to limit the numbers, especially as the chosen route may not be straightforward and along narrow paths.
5. Why is it necessary to book on this event if you wish to attend? This is because there are only a limited number of spaces (see point above) and to ensure the fairest allocation of spaces, we kindly request everyone to book a place. It's OK to change your mind about coming but please change your RSVP as soon as you have for someone else to take the place if they wish to.
PLEASE NOTE: Walking like many outdoor activities carries an element of risk. People who take part in our meet up activities do so at their own risk and are responsible for their own actions and involvement. If you register to join our meet up walks you agree that you wish to take part in the activities despite these risks.
Please wear boots, shoes or runners that you find comfortable, provide suitable support and have good grip as some of the paths may be uneven or steep. It is also recommended to bring water to avoid dehydration. Bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket or umbrella in case of inclement weather.

Dublin Filmmaking Group - Meeting Eight
Hi,
Come along for two hours on Sunday to shoot a very short film. No prior experience necessary. People who want to be in front of or behind camera welcome. Meet at National Concert Hall entrance, but will shoot outdoors so wrap up warm. Will go for coffee/pint after if people fancy.
Over the last three months we've made seven very short films in different locations around Dublin. It's been great fun and a great learning experience so far. We've covered different topics and moods in each film. If you'd like to come along for the eighth meeting, you're very welcome to. Places will be limited as the sessions work best with smaller groups. So if you sign up and then your plans change, please cancel your confirmation to let others get a spot.
All the best,
Donal

Group description:
Meet up for a few hours every weekend to enjoy making films together. No prior experience necessary.
At first we'll ease into it gradually, starting with just an SLR camera and very simple shots around Dublin. Over time, as we get more used to shooting, we'll add more gear and develop towards shooting finished works like short films, maybe even features.
The idea behind this is that many creative people who wish to make films put too much pressure on themselves to produce something brilliant straight away. Often the result is that they are too petrified to create anything at all.
We'll turn that on its head in this group. There will be absolutely no pressure to create something brilliant. We will just explore different ideas for shots and little moments of storytelling. For example we might think of a classic moment from a film and try to recreate it in Dublin. Or we’ll explore ideas for shots or scenes that have been kicking around our imaginations. Each week we'll build upon what we've learned. Over time, through gradual consistency and good spirit, we'll see where the creative process takes us. And of course, we'll meet new people, form a little community and have fun.
A little about the organiser: My name is Donal. I'm a professional actor from Dublin in my thirties. I trained at LAMDA in London and Trinity College Dublin. I've worked in film, tv, theatre, ads, voiceovers etc. The most notable screen project I've worked on was Game of Thrones and I've played lead roles in shows at the Abbey, Gate and Druid.
The kind of person we're looking for: Someone who loves film/tv, brings a positive, open attitude about the project and is willing to row in and see where it takes us. No prior experience in film or tv is required as we'll be starting very simply and taking a gradual pace.
Zazen Meditation + Dharma talk or Kinhin
The meaning of the word zen is meditation, zazen means sitting meditation. In zazen practice we begin to know ourselves, and to go beyond the limits of our personal ego. Within our tradition zazen is referred to as shikantaza, not doing, letting go of thoughts, dropping off body and mind. This sitting meditation is the focus of our practice. Language limits our ability to communicate the true nature of zen; it is something that is better understood
through practice. We are open to everyone interested in learning about zen.
Intro workshop for newcomers is available at 5.30pm each Sunday. The dojo is a sacred place and it is important to be considerate of everyone. We have many people that travel to practise together once a week or once a month. So for that reason it is really essential that we all know the structure of the sitting practise (when to sit, how to do Kinhin, the different bell sounds and their meaning etc), to ensure a silent, safe and meaningful meditation. And it's also great to meet everyone before the sitting practise. And answer any questions you may have.
We have zafus and zabutons (mats and cushions) for all to sit on. Chairs are available too.
Comfortable clothing for sitting, black or neutral tones best.
We greatly appreciate a donation of €5 to cover costs if it's possible for you.
Please arrive 10min before start so 6ish (if you're not doing the intro workshop).
You are very welcome to our dojo!

BreadBreakers One-Meeting Book Club: Of Mice and Men
**BreadBreakers is a community where people of all different belief systems and backgrounds can create community - and what better way to do that than reading together?**
Join us as we combine the kind, curious, and welcoming atmosphere of a BreadBreakers dinner with the thought-provoking, fun format of a book club. Here's what to expect:
* We'll be reading *Of Mice and Men*, by John Steinbeck.
* This will be a one-meeting club, so if you've ever wanted to do a book club but couldn't commit to multiple meetings, here's your opportunity!
* Snacks :)
* BreadBreakers ground rules apply - we'll lead with curiosity, converse with kindness, and strive to dig beneath the surface level.
* We'll be gathering in Meeting Room 1 at the Reston Regional Library.
* Participants will be responsible for obtaining their own copies of the book. [Here's the Amazon link, if helpful.](https://www.amazon.com/Mice-Men-John-Steinbeck/dp/0140177396)
* Our BreadBreakers table hosts will come ready with questions and facilitation skills - you come ready to discuss!
**I've never attended a BreadBreakers event before - what is BreadBreakers?**
BreadBreakers is a community where neighbors from all different beliefs and backgrounds can **hear, be heard, and know one another.** Most frequently, we do this through the ancient practice of breaking bread around a common dining table.
But we're more than just a discussion group - we're a movement to heal our world's broken discourse and forge togetherness in a time of isolation and loneliness. **Through the sacred act of just "being" together, we're working to rebuild the town square, one table (or book club) at a time.**
BreadBreakers is a religiously inclusive by Restoration United Methodist Church in Reston, VA. All faiths, beliefs, and stripes are welcomed, and our leadership and community include people who attend Restoration and people who don't.

BreadBreakers Community Dinner: Dialogue Across Divides
**In a time of division and isolation, come be part of the community that's rebuilding the town square, one table at a time.**
In BreadBreakers, we use the common space of the dining table to have conversations where neighbors can **hear, be heard, and know one another.** If you're hungry for good discourse and deeper community, join us for a Community Dinner in Reston and help blaze the trail to a healthier, more connected society and democracy.
Here’s how it works: For just two hours, multiple tables of people set aside the need to "win" and instead focus on sharing, listening, and connecting. Guided by experienced table hosts, we'll tell our stories, try to understand each other, and practice being in community with those with different views or backgrounds.
**At this dinner, participants will get to choose between three different topics, including some current events.** Topics could range from the political, to the spiritual, to the philosophical, to the off-the-wall - but no matter which table you choose to sit at, you can be sure it'll be like no dinner conversation you've had before! You can also **suggest a topic** by emailing us at BreadBreakersInfo@gmail.com.
Food will be provided for free. For those who wish to provide a donation to help fund BreadBreakers, you can [give here](https://pushpay.com/g/restorationrestonumc?fnd=pO6G-N7oO7FH7Mp1u-x6mA&fndv=Lock&r=No&lang=en&src=pcgl) or at the event.
We'll have vegetarian and gluten-free options available. If you have any additional dietary restrictions (Celiac Disease, vegan, etc.) please let us know at BreadBreakersInfo@gmail.com so that we can implement the appropriate food handling procedures.
**Join us, invite a friend, and be a part of the movement to mend our fractured society and normalize a better way of talking with one another.**
BreadBreakers, an initiative by [Restoration United Methodist Church](https://restorationreston.org/breadbreakers) in Reston, VA, is a religiously inclusive community. All faiths and all stripes are welcomed. Our leadership, volunteer team, and community include people who attend Restoration and people who don't.
