Back to the Basics: Intent-Driven API Design in C++
Back to the Basics: Intent-Driven API Design in C++
📢 Main event starts at 18:30 CET ⚠️ Different location - near U4 Heiligenstadt This time, we welcome Fridtjof Sterna as our main speaker! When you design function APIs, how do you choose parameter types? C++ offers many ways to pass objects to functions, but choosing the right parameter types for an API often still feels like guesswork. We learn the mechanics and rules, yet rarely step back to ask the fundamental questions that should guide our decisions. In this talk, we revisit parameter passing from first principles. Starting from intent rather than language features, we view a function call as a negotiation between caller and callee, with ownership and mutability as the two key questions at the boundary. This perspective reframes value categories as evidence, demystifies std::move, and leads to a practical decision guide for API design. The goal is to provide a mental model that helps both learners and experienced developers reason more confidently about C++ code. Before the main talk, we'll briefly present our user group to newcomers, and share some news about the world of C++. \- We appreciate any **voluntary donations** on-site. \- Arrive early for pre\-socializing—simple snacks and drinks will be provided\. \- After the event\, we will relocate to [Köö Q19](https://www.billardcafe.at/de/lokale/k-oe-oe-q19-kreilplatz.html) (at your own expense). \- We thank our host\, [42 Vienna](https://www.42vienna.com)!
The Tower - Liberate yourself
The Tower - Liberate yourself
Dear Tarot Enthusiasts, Welcome to our Tarot Cafe event - The Tower. Let's get together and chat about this card and what it has to teach us. On 21st January, we will meet from 19:00 at **Cafe International** **Payergasse 14,** **1160 Wien (Yppenplatz)** At 19:30, we will start the event as we did before. We will discuss and do some exercise on The Tower. Then we will chat, drink, eat and get acquainted with each other. There will also be an opportunity to practice readings on each other if you wish to do so. You do not have to be a tarot expert, but come with an open mind. Be ready to learn, share and make new friends. ALL LEVELS ARE WELCOME! Bring your tarot deck (if you have one) and a notebook with a pen. This is a free event but a 5€ donation is suggested. You can give whatever you want, more if you can or less if you can't afford the 5€. It helps me with the running costs of this meetup. You can order food and drinks at the cafe. Keep in mind that Cafe International is cash only. Please make sure you RSVP accurately so I know how many people to expect. If you have a problem to find us, feel free to call me on +43 676 33 24 955 Looking forward to meeting you all. Adrien Mastrosimone www.adrienmastrosimone.com

BreadBreakers Community Dinner: Dialogue Across Divides
BreadBreakers Community Dinner: Dialogue Across Divides
**In a time of division and isolation, come be part of the community that's rebuilding the town square, one table at a time.** In BreadBreakers, we use the common space of the dining table to have conversations where neighbors can **hear, be heard, and know one another.** If you're hungry for good discourse and deeper community, join us for a Community Dinner in Reston and help blaze the trail to a healthier, more connected society and democracy. Here’s how it works: For just two hours, multiple tables of people set aside the need to "win" and instead focus on sharing, listening, and connecting. Guided by experienced table hosts, we'll tell our stories, try to understand each other, and practice being in community with those with different views or backgrounds. **At this dinner, participants will get to choose between three different topics, including some current events.** Topics could range from the political, to the spiritual, to the philosophical, to the off-the-wall - but no matter which table you choose to sit at, you can be sure it'll be like no dinner conversation you've had before! You can also **suggest a topic** by emailing us at BreadBreakersInfo@gmail.com. Food will be provided for free. For those who wish to provide a donation to help fund BreadBreakers, you can [give here](https://pushpay.com/g/restorationrestonumc?fnd=pO6G-N7oO7FH7Mp1u-x6mA&fndv=Lock&r=No&lang=en&src=pcgl) or at the event. We'll have vegetarian and gluten-free options available. If you have any additional dietary restrictions (Celiac Disease, vegan, etc.) please let us know at BreadBreakersInfo@gmail.com so that we can implement the appropriate food handling procedures. **Join us, invite a friend, and be a part of the movement to mend our fractured society and normalize a better way of talking with one another.** BreadBreakers, an initiative by [Restoration United Methodist Church](https://restorationreston.org/breadbreakers) in Reston, VA, is a religiously inclusive community. All faiths and all stripes are welcomed. Our leadership, volunteer team, and community include people who attend Restoration and people who don't.
