Athens dbt Meetup #2 - MCP Servers, dbt Fusion & Live AMA with dbt Labs
Welcome back to the **dbt meetup Athens**--our second event and first for 2026. We’re excited to kick off the year with another community gathering, hosted once again at the **Kaizen Campus**.
After our first meetup, where the organizers introduced themselves and shared how dbt is used across their companies, we’re switching perspectives. This time, we’re thrilled to welcome **Cormac Buckley (Senior Customer Solutions Architect)** and **Peter Jehl (Solution Architect)** from **dbt Labs** for a session we’ve been eagerly anticipating ourselves.
Cormac and Peter will dive into **MCP Servers with dbt** and the **dbt Fusion engine**—but that’s not where it ends. The second half of the event will be a live **Ask Me Anything** session, giving the Greek dbt community a rare chance to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and get insights directly from the experts.
Come for the talks, stay for the community.
We’re looking forward to seeing familiar faces, meeting new ones, and continuing to grow the dbt community in Athens.
👀 See you there!

Ping pong #66 🏓- Wednesday - Renti
**Same stuff, always fun! 😎 🏓**
ℹ️ **General info:**
Bats (rackets) & balls are provided by the venue (are included in the price).
The ping-pong tables have an hourly cost of 8€/hour, per table. Usually we pay 5-6€/person for the whole 1.5 hours. PLEASE, bring some cash on you, unless you have Revolut or IRIS (nope, a 50€ euro bill does not count).
🚗 🚌 **Location**:
The venue cannot be reached by metro, so you have to either take a bus or **carpool** with any attending member that will arrive via car.
ℹ️ Bus options should be fairly good, since the venue is next to a big amusement park & a mall.
ℹ️ Personally, I'll always be coming via car, so I'll have 4 available spots in my car. I can pick you from:
* **Egaleo** metro station, blue line,
* **Sepolia** metro station, red line,
* **Pallini** metro/train station
❗️ If you plan to attend via car and are willing to carpool people, please let me/us know in a PM or event discussion!
❗️ People getting carpooled should be in the agreed location **5 minutes earlier**, so that the driver is not made to wait! No excuses, just be on time (or else people won't offer to carpool any more in the future 😑)!
OPTIONAL: Afterwards, we sometimes go at a nearby gyros/fast food restaurant something to eat.

From RAII to Substructural Types and Beyond at XM

After the talk there will be time for Q&A, food and networking.
**📍 Location 📍**
Michalakopoulou 80 street, 1st floor.
Attendees should register with their meetup name at the entrance
**⏰ Date & Time ⏰**
12th of February, 19:00
**🔗 Prerequisites & Target audience 🔗**
The talk is aimed at developers who are interested in C++.
**🇬🇷 Language 🇬🇧**
The talk will be in Greek unless there are non-Greek speakers in the audience.
**🍀 JetBrains license ruffle 🍀**
At the end of the event we will ruffle out 2 yearly licenses for a JetBrains IDE.
**📃 Agenda 📃**
19:00 - "Intro, Agenda of meetup" by Dimitris Platis
19:05 - A message from our sponsor - XM
19:10 - "From RAII to Substructural Types and Beyond" by Iosif Arvanitis
20:10 - Pizza, kindly offered by XM 🍕
**🎤 About the talk 🎤**
In modern C++ resource management, RAII and move semantics have become ubiquitous. In this talk, we will take a closer look at the underlying mechanisms underpinning the advantages of using these features, and the theory that formalizes them. We will then discuss the powerful implications of the theory and how it influences the wider programming language world.
We will move beyond the basics of RAII to explore:
\- A primer on substructural types \(affine\, linear\, etc\)
\- Connecting substructural types with C\+\+ concepts \(e\.g\. \`unique_ptr\`\)
\- Substructural "superpowers": race freedom\, static guarantees and more
Under this framework, modern C++ developers can better grasp new language features, design safer APIs, and appreciate influential patterns from other programming languages.
**🎤 About the speaker 🎤**
Iosif Arvanitis is a Computer Engineering undergraduate at the University of Patras, with a focus on systems programming, concurrent-distributed systems and programming languages. He is currently active in academic research, as well as web development projects.

Free Online Event | Is Love Something You DO?
We all know about love in our personal relationships, that it’s not just something you think or even say but that it’s something you show by putting what you’re feeling into practice. But what happens when we think about love in a wider context? How do we embrace loving those beyond our existing circles? What about all of humanity? Is it enough to simply feel love for all mankind, or do we also have to seek out ways to put that into practice? This can seem like a daunting task, but even coming together with people of different backgrounds and beliefs and exploring these ideas together in an open and respectful setting can help contribute to creating the world we want to see!
Come join a different kind of conversation – one that welcomes every perspective in a search for the truths that unite us all – as we discuss the spiritual perspectives offered by the Bahá’í Teachings on the power of love in action. Join us for a lively discussion as we explore how developing that practice in ourselves and in others can help create the change we want to see in the world.
*“Do not be content with showing friendship in words alone, let your heart burn with loving kindness for all who may cross your path.”* – Bahá’í Teachings
\*\*\* This event is free and open to all regardless of background or belief. Donations will not be accepted.
February Energetics Sound Bath
Have you heard of a Sound Bath? Have you been curious to learn why many say it is the most gentle yet profound healing method? Here is your opportunity to experience it for yourself!
Sound healing taps into the body’s natural resonance, encouraging deep relaxation and a gentle shift in nervous‑system activity. When using sound healing instruments such as crystal singing bowls, Tibetan bowls, crystal pyramids, gongs, rain sticks, and thunder drums, their rich overtones create a field of vibrational energy that can synchronize brainwaves, moving them from the fast beta range toward the calming alpha and theta frequencies associated with meditative states, reduced stress, and enhanced creativity.
The pure, sustained tones of crystal bowls and pyramids are especially effective at clearing energetic blockages, allowing subtle “chi” or life‑force to flow more freely, which many practitioners report as improved emotional balance and heightened sense of well‑being.
Percussive elements, such as Tibetan bowls and gongs, add a broader spectrum of harmonics that stimulate the body’s proprioceptive and auditory pathways, supporting pain relief, better sleep, and a feeling of groundedness. The use of rain sticks and thunder drums introduce rhythmic, earth‑like pulses that can anchor the listener, fostering a sense of safety and connection to nature.
Together, this blend of resonant sounds creates a holistic sonic environment that promotes mental clarity, emotional release, and physical relaxation—all key components of a restorative sound‑healing experience.
The intention of this February sound bath session is to honor the winter months that allow our bodies to ground, rest and recuperate, preparing for new birth in the spring.

The World Needs Good People
**Is it unrealistic or even naive to think that we should try to live a virtuous life in today’s world?**
**As children we’re taught to be good, to be kind, to be honest. Yet as we get older, some of these virtues get lost or sacrificed for the sake of expediency or convenience, or a sense that they’re just not compatible with the world today. Even worse, some might think it could allow others who don’t hold to these values to take advantage of us. But what is the impact on a society that no longer values these ideals? What is the impact on us as individuals? Can a spiritual perspective help us to recognize the inherent value of these qualities?**
**Come join a different kind of conversation – one that welcomes every perspective in a search for the truths that unite us all – as we discuss the spiritual perspectives offered by the Bahá’í Teachings on the importance of nurturing – and valuing! – good people. Join us for a lively discussion as together we explore how developing qualities like truthfulness, integrity, and kindness can enable the progress and improvement of society as a whole.**

The Spirituality of Depolarization
**\| The Spirituality of Depolarization**
***
**In a world increasingly marked by division and conflict, finding common ground has never been more crucial – and seemingly more difficult. At the same time, if we’re willing to go outside of ourselves, there are a growing number of grassroots efforts – thousands in the US alone! – all exploring various means of depolarization. In this context, might there be a role for spirituality to help guide us towards these aims, towards greater empathy and understanding for one another?**
**More and more it seems like we can each pick and choose the bubbles we want to live in, with many of those bubbles drifting further away from others. And while there can be comfort to be found in this, are we maybe also missing out on an even better world we could be living in? What would an approach to our lives and our communities look like that speaks to our fundamental commonalities instead of our differences? How might we find and strengthen a common ground that unites while respecting our unique perspectives and contributions? What has the unique power to connect each and every one of us, to help us find that common ground, to better understand and express our essential oneness as human beings?**
**Come join a different kind of conversation – one that welcomes every perspective in a search for the truths that unite us all – as we discuss the spiritual perspective offered by the Bahá’í Teachings on the role of spirituality in navigating polarized communities and bridging divides. Join us for a lively discussion as we explore how spirituality can help foster a society strengthened by unity and based on understanding amongst its citizens.**

Two Strong Wings: Advancing the Equality of Women & Men
**\| Two Strong Wings: Advancing the Equality of Women & Men**
***
**Can humanity truly reach its full potential without all of its members being free to reach and contribute their all? Is equality a tug of war where one side gains at another’s expense? Does empowering women require taking opportunities away from men, or does it actually strengthen the whole and create more opportunities and a better world for everyone?**
**If a bird has one broken wing, it isn’t able to fly or live a full and healthy life. Could this same thinking apply to the balance of men and women? The two wings of a bird do not fight for power, strength or dominance. Both wings need to be of equal strength for the bird to soar. Can humanity truly advance if women do not enjoy the same rights, prerogatives and opportunities as men? How can we work to ensure that we are building communities where everyone has the same opportunities to grow and develop and to contribute to the advancement of humanity together?**
**Come join a different kind of conversation – one that welcomes every perspective in a search for the truths that unite us all – as we discuss the spiritual perspective offered by the Bahá’í Teachings on the essential equality of the sexes. Join us for a lively discussion as we explore how achieving that equality is needed for all of humanity to progress and reach its full potential.**
