Bunco for Foodies - Bring $5 to play!
🎲 Join Us for a Bunco Night! 🎲
Join us for an exciting evening of Bunco, where all are invited to come together for fun, laughter, and friendly competition! Please bring $5 to play!
🌟 No previous Bunco experience necessary! This is a fun, luck-based game of dice perfect for groups. With table rotations and a bell to signal rounds, it’s easy to learn and guarantees great fun for everyone.
**Game Plan:**
Each attendee needs to bring $5 cash to play. Cash will be converted to quarters for playing prior to the first round.
25¢ per round; Each player will contribute a quarter for every round we play. Don't worry; the winners of each round get to keep their quarters!
The remaining money from each round will go into our collection jar. At the end of the year, we'll donate these funds to an agreed upon local
non-profit which helps those facing food insecurity.
***\*\*Please send organization suggestions via DM message in the Meetup App prior to the inaugural Bunco event in January 2026 so the group can discuss and make a selection\*\****
Let’s make our Bunco nights not only fun but also impactful!
**Attendees are also asked to bring one of the following:**
A wine or beverage of your choice
A fun nosh to share
The host will provide glasses, wine openers, plates, and napkins
**What to Expect:**
Friendly games and an introduction to the house rules
Opportunities to meet new people and connect with fellow enthusiasts
Light snacks and refreshments to keep you energized
Don’t miss this chance to dive into the fun of Bunco while supporting a great cause! Bring your friends or come solo—everyone is welcome!
We’ll reconfirm RSVPs before the event to avoid no-shows and ensure that those on the waitlist have an opportunity to join.
**WAITLIST:**
Meetup does not allow a waitlist for paid events. If this event fills up and you’re interested in being added to the waitlist, please send the host a message through the app.
Note: The small non-refundable registration fee helps us share the costs associated with the Meetup platform ($360/year) and reduces the likelihood of no-shows, allowing us to better plan our events and accommodate all participants. Meetup charges $0.51 and PayPal charges $0.53 on the $2 registration fee.
Thanks for your understanding.
We look forward to a fantastic night filled with laughter and camaraderie!
Shut Up & Write!® Hyattsville/Wed. Writing
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at **7:00 PM on Wednesday evenings.**
Edit: As of January 7, 2026, we will be back at Starbucks!
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
**We'll meet inside the coffee shop**. Please buy something to ensure we're welcome back. Sit down anywhere, but let me know you're here so we can introduce ourselves and check in before and after writing! (I'll be the one with the sign.)
**SCHEDULE:**
7:00 - Quick introductions
7:20 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour
8:20 - The End: chat, take off, or keep writing
Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you!
**What Should I Bring?**
Whatever you need to be able to write! Note that outlets are limited, so please make sure your devices are charged.
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the overhead music or the conversation by other patrons.
**Other Important Details:**
Starbucks has WiFi.
TRAVEL / PARKING: The shopping area is about a twenty minute walk from the College Park or P. G. Plaza/Hyattsville Crossing Metro Stations. There's also a bus stop right outside the shopping center on Baltimore Ave. Parking is free.
SEATING INFORMATION: Seating is first come first serve. I'll try to grab a table, but be prepared to sit down anywhere.
FOOD GUIDELINES: Tea, coffee, and light food are available at the coffee shop. Please thank our hosts by purchasing something to drink.
Shut Up & Write® - Gaithersburg
Come by for an hour of evening writing with fellow creative folks. Everyone works on their own thing, no obligation to share — just show up and make any kind of words happen. If you're spending too much time thinking about writing, join us for an hour of focused writing.
Guidelines:
* While some discussion is encouraged to get to know one another, strive for silent, focused writing from 6:45 PM - 7:45 PM.
* Generally avoid disruptive sensory input/behaviors, such as repeated or unpleasant noises, smells, physical movements, etc.
(if you have health-related reasons, or some other aspect out of your control due to which this could become an issue, show up anyway and explain that potential disruptions are not intentional.)
* Repeated breaking of the above rules without a valid reason may result in dismissal from the group at any point during a session.
**Why is Shut Up & Write(!) so effective?** [http://arsenalofwords.com/2015/10/14/why-i-shut-up-write/](http://arsenalofwords.com/2015/10/14/why-i-shut-up-write/)
**LOCATION:**
Gaithersburg Library, Study Room 2 (if we aren't in 2, check 1!)
**SCHEDULE:**
6:30 \| Pre\-session check\-in \- What will you work on?
6:45 \| Shut up and write for 1 hour\!
7:45 \| Post\-session check\-in \- How did it go?
Feel free to keep writing and finish your lingering thoughts past this point, but know that the library closes at 8 PM!
**BRING:**
Whatever you need to be able to write!
***If you are interested in a more collaborative and discussion-focused writing group, the Gaithersburg Library hosts such a group on Sundays from 4:00 to 5:30 PM! Ask Chris or the library staff for more details.***

Run and Get Dirty! Adult Dogs in the main park, puppies in the small dog park
Our regular Sunday meetup at the Shirlington Dog Park -- members start arriving around 10:15 a.m. You'll always find an Aussie to play with. There are 3 entrances, so wander the park -- the dogs will find each other!
For puppies, Shirlington has a small dog park within the larger dog park. It's the prefect place for your puppy to gain confidence and socialize with others. There is also plenty of room to run.
Just a reminder, the Dog Park is under attack by the Arlington County Board of Commissioners. While early plans to decrease the size of the park by 50% has been tabled, it's important to remind Arlington County how important this park is to dogs and owners. Here are links to the change.org petition and the Facebook page where you can get updates.

I will demonstrate the process before allowing students the opportunity to ask questions and practice. We will provide a handkerchief for the final project, but students are encouraged to bring their own light-weight cotton objects to use instead.

Underwater Hockey (open to new players!)
New players are always welcome to come try it out!
What you need:
A bathing suit. Preferably something light and tight.
We have extra gear for new players. But if you have your own pair of flippers, a snorkeling mask, and a snorkel then bring them along.
Please bring this signed and completed form to practice:

Unless you are already a member of USOA:
https://www.underwater-society.org/page/show/4284471-usoa-registration
To find us:
You can tell the front desk that you are here for underwater hockey and they will let you in for free. You can ask them for help finding the pool.
If no one is at the front desk just walk past it and there will be a set of stairs on the left. Take the stairs and take a right at the bottom of the stairs. The men's and women's locker rooms are straight ahead, and you will need to go through them to access the pool deck. Once you are out on the pool deck you will be exactly where we practice.
Agenda:
First 15 minutes: Arrival at the pool, getting gear from the shared gear bin, dividing into two teams, getting gear on.
Minutes 15-30: Getting in the water, teaching any new players the basics
Minutes 20-70: Scrimmage/practice.
Minutes 70-75: Putting away club gear, putting the lane lines back in place, clearing the pool deck.
(optional) afterwards: Go to a local restaurant for food, drinks, and socializing.
