Reston Happy Hour: Scaling Cloud Infrastructure for Heavy Workloads
Reston Happy Hour: Scaling Cloud Infrastructure for Heavy Workloads
Gaming, AdTech, EdTech, Media Streaming, and FinTech are just a few of the workloads where high-availability cloud infrastructure matters. Whether you’re doing battle daily in one of these spaces or are just curious about ways to improve performance, meet us in Reston for an in-person discussion on bare metal cloud architecture. You’ll meet our product lead, James MacKenzie, who will walk through how modern bare metal serves as a control plane for hybrid and private cloud architectures. **What we will cover** * Ways to leverage bare metal, containers, and orchestration for better performance and predictable economics; * Real-world hybrid, disaster recovery, and data-intensive architectures; * Our approach to eliminating ingress and egress fees. **Who should attend** * Cloud architects and platform engineers; * DevOps professionals and infrastructure leads; * FinOps stakeholders managing data-heavy or hybrid workloads. **Why attend** This is a technical, architecture-first conversation. You will leave with a clearer understanding of high-availability cloud infrastructure and how organizations are scaling cost-effectively. Food and drinks will be provided. Space is limited to keep the discussion interactive.
Evolutions of AI-Enabled Software Development with Sean Hoar
Evolutions of AI-Enabled Software Development with Sean Hoar
HYBRID EVENT, VIRTUAL SPEAKER In this talk, Sean Hoar will explore the transformative journey of AI’s role in modern software engineering, from rapid prototyping (“Vibe Coding”) to strategic AI integration by skilled practitioners. It clarifies the distinctions between AI-assisted, AI-enabled, and practitioner-led approaches, offering insights into how developers can effectively adapt to and harness AI tools. The presentation also highlights recent advancements and practical strategies for leveraging AI in daily workflows and long-term development.

Amphibian and Reptile Monitoring 2026 Season Kickoff
Amphibian and Reptile Monitoring 2026 Season Kickoff
Our local amphibians and reptiles are both susceptible to habitat destruction and pollutants and can often be victims of being misunderstood. Join Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy for an introductory look at our local amphibians and reptiles, what our citizens can do to help protect their habitats, and what related programs are available through Loudoun Wildlife to help monitor populations and increase community awareness of these often overlooked and fragile species. This presentation takes place at Rust Library and is co-sponsored by the Loudoun County Public Library and Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy.

**IMPORTANT NOTICE:** WE'RE MOVING TO [LUMA](https://luma.com/transittechies). SUBSCRIBE TO OUR [LUMA CALENDAR](https://luma.com/transittechies) TO CONTINUE RECEIVING UPDATES. Talks will start at 6:30pm, and we'll mingle over light bites and refreshments before and afterwards. **[Please sign up on the Luma event for building access!](https://luma.com/my43kl57?tk=2BGBsd)** **[Follow us on Luma](https://luma.com/transittechies) to continue receiving updates** **Speakers** **Colin Miller** mostly grew up in Austin, Texas, where he developed an early interest in software and maps. After his freshman year of college, he launched his first startup, Redistricter, which took off far faster than expected. He left school and moved to New York to pursue it full-time. A year later, he created *Subway Builder*, a hyper-realistic game that lets players design subway systems from scratch while navigating real-world constraints and costs. The game simulates millions of commuters using Census and Redistricter data, powered by the same pathfinding algorithms people rely on to get to work. Your job is to design a route network that gets the most people to their destination as fast as possible. — **Greg Feliu** is a data engineer and analyst focused on transportation analytics, with projects ranging from modeling subway–bus transfers to clustering NYC subway stations by ridership. Drawing on public ridership data and GTFS schedules, he builds minimal-assumption models to estimate ridership on each subway line, combining data modeling with subject-matter expertise to reveal how New Yorkers move through the system with *The Busiest Subway Lines in NYC, Ranked*. **[Please sign up on the Luma event for building access!](https://luma.com/my43kl57?tk=2BGBsd)** **[Follow us on Luma](https://luma.com/transittechies) to continue receiving updates** The event will be held at 370 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY in Room 1201. We hope to see you there!
Energizing Walk for Busy People!
Energizing Walk for Busy People!
Join our weekly walking meetup to have fun, maintain a healthy lifestyle, meet new people, and enjoy the weather! We meet Saturdays at 10am, halfway between the Reston *Container Store* and *Not Your Average Joes* (by the metal benches), leaving no later than 10:05. Every week, rain or shine, we start by walking along the Green Trail to reach Lake Anne Community Center. Once there, we pause for water/bio (often staying a few minutes extra from April-November, due to the local Farmer's Market), and then we circle Lake Anne and head back to our starting point. It's roughly 3-4 miles and takes about an hour and a half. Afterwards, some members will often head to *Not Your Average Joes* or another local restaurant for a quick drink/meal before tackling the day. This event is open to all ages and fitness levels. Dogs are welcome, and we recommend dressing for the weather (umbrella, water, snow shoes, hat, etc.) since we'll walk rain or shine. Also, feel free to bring a friend! By signing up, you accept and assume all risks and responsibilities with this activity, and nobody will be held liable.

Register at Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy at [Writing in Nature (New Location) - Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy](https://loudounwildlife.org/event/writing-in-nature-february/) Join Nancy Morgan, Director Emeritus, Georgetown Lombardi Arts and Humanities Program, for this regular monthly workshop, presented by Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy, to enjoy the combined health benefits of time spent in nature and writing thoughts and feelings. Writing is often considered a solo, reflective practice, but writing in the company of others can be a supportive, community building activity that encourages regular practice. Each session is a stand-alone event – come when you are able. Registration for each session is open through the morning of the workshop.
