Midweek Recce Ride including Truganina and Caroline Springs
Midweek Recce Ride including Truganina and Caroline Springs
**Ride**: This is a Wednesday recce ride of about 60km from Melbourne Exhibition Centre out to Truganina to check out some bike paths in the industrial area that I spotted on Google Maps. Plus we'll take the Western Hwy Path to Caroline Springs and explore around there to see how good or bad it is in the 'burbs further north and west. I have explored and led rides there some years ago but the cycling infrastructure has been growing a lot in the housing growth areas at the edges of Melbourne so there may be some pleasant surprises. Hoping for lunch in Caroline Springs at my new favourite bakery. We could ride back or pop on the train at an appropriate time to turn around. Decide at the time. The end time is just a guess. You're welcome to depart early at any time, if you wish. **Note**: You'll eed to be confident with a route that will vary as we find it at times and the possibility of dealing with traffic if the trails terminate on the odd road. (While looking for ways to avoid it) We're likely to find all variety of surfaces. **Forecast**: 28°C and dry. SE tailwinds likely according to this forecast: https://reg.bom.gov.au/places/vic/truganina/forecast/detailed/#d2026-01-14 **Typical speed**: 25 km/h or so. Faster if it feels right 😏. (Suits intermediates / not at a dawdle) **Route Map and GPX files**: Not yet. We'll be on Federation Trail at times then head off it at Trug. **Bike to bring:** Probably something light **Bring**: Myki, water, sunscreen, snacks & energy bars, spare tube, tools, your phone with my number **Contact**: Neil Griffiths 0419 560 409 **Photo**: Swans on Lake Caroline in Caroline Springs (Jun '17) "All riders are riding at their own risk and Melbourne Cycling does not take any responsibility for any injuries or accidents you may have on any of our rides"
Simple AI: A Relaxed Intro to What it Actually Means for You
Simple AI: A Relaxed Intro to What it Actually Means for You
Hi everyone, I am so happy to announce our very first event for **Simple AI: Practical Tools for Life and Work (Melbourne)**. We already have 20 members in this group, which is a fantastic start! I started this community because I am passionate about making AI easy for everyone. I hate jargon and I love seeing people save time. For our first session, we are keeping it simple. This is an online "Big Picture" chat to set the stage for everything we will do together in 2026. **What we will talk about:** * What AI actually is (the plain English version). * Why I believe these tools are so useful for our daily lives and work. * A look at our roadmap, including future hands on workshops like prompt engineering and our monthly in person news meetups here in Melbourne. * A chance for you to ask anything and tell me what you want to learn. **How to join us:** This is a free online event. To help me manage the numbers and send you the calendar invite, please register via the Eventbrite link below: **Register here:** [https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/simple-ai-a-relaxed-intro-to-what-it-actually-means-for-you-tickets-1978944340795?aff=oddtdtcreator](https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/simple-ai-a-relaxed-intro-to-what-it-actually-means-for-you-tickets-1978944340795?aff=oddtdtcreator) **Join here:**[ https://meet.google.com/cce-dgdb-jht](https://meet.google.com/cce-dgdb-jht) **Event Details:** * **When:** Tuesday, 13 January 2026 * **Time:** 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM AEDT * **Where:** Online via Google Meet: https://meet.google.com/cce-dgdb-jht I really want this to be a helpful, welcoming space for you. 🚲 Maribyrnong River Social Bike Ride — Exploratory Edition 30km - Moderate
🚲 Maribyrnong River Social Bike Ride — Exploratory Edition 30km - Moderate
**🚲 Maribyrnong River Social Ride — Exploratory Edition** Sunday 18 January 2026 **Start time**: 10:00am sharp (I won’t wait for stragglers) **Meet from**: 9:45am or earlier **Start/End point**: The Love Cafe next to the Melbourne Skyline Ferris Wheel, which is next to the Exhibition Centre at South Wharf. Hard to miss😀 **🌞 About the Ride** Join us for a fun, friendly, social bicycle adventure tracing the Maribyrnong River , in the west of Melbourne — roughly 30 km return trip, about 2 hours up and 2 hours back, depending on group pace and café temptations. ****### _Before you consider joining this event, read the group rules section at the end_ ###**** This is an exploratory ride. The organiser is not familiar with this part of Melbourne, so expect a spirit of discovery, possible detours, and the occasional “Is it this way?” moment. That’s part of the charm. We’ll aim to stop every 40 minutes or so at cafés (if any appear), or for lunch if we find a good spot. After reaching our turnaround point, we’ll return along the same route back to the Ferris Wheel. **🚴‍♀️ Bike Hire** If you need a bike, Blue Tongue Bike Hire is just over the river from the Exhibition centre, It’s quick, but please allow extra time to sort it out. If you want a pre‑ride coffee, arrive early and enjoy one at Love Café. Hire Info: [Blue Tongue Bikes ](https://bluetonguebikes.com.au/) **🧰 What to Bring** - Water - Sunscreen - Snacks - Helmet - Bike lock - Tyre pump, repair kit, or spare inner tubes - (Optional but wise) Kevlar‑backed tyres — they saved us from puncture chaos last time - (Optional but recommended) RACV Bike Assist — around $24/year via the Arevo bike‑navigation app, handy for transport help, fatigue, or minor repairs **🗺️ Pace & Expectations** This is a relaxed, social ride — but we roll at 10:00am. Please arrive by 9:45am so we can meet, greet, and get moving on time. **🚵‍♀️🚵‍♀️🚵‍♀️Ride Motto**. Our last ride had a great attitude where people looked out for each other, if people were slow or had emergency repairs. This ride would suit people who are the more caring types🥰 **Group Rules and Event Etiquette** **Fitness Requirements**: **Riding:** 10 to 15km/hr Ensure you have adequate fitness, it's unfair for the group to wait extended periods for you. You may be asked to exit the event as a consequence. **Very Fast or Very Slow People** It's a group activity the organiser can't manage the group if people are everywhere, please consider going by yourself, joining faster groups or having adequate fitness. You may be asked to exit the event as a consequence. **Busy People** Best to give yourself some wiggle room, or not attend the event if you have time constraints. Things rarely go to time, especially when having fun. **⚠️+++VERY IMPORTANT+++** **People Who Do A No Show**. This is too common for small group events, there may be people on a waitlist wanting to come on the event and hence very inconsiderate. Remove yourself from the going list at least 24 hours before the event to give people on the waitlist an opportunity. **If you do a No Show you will likely be removed and blocked from the group**. If you remove yourself from the event an hour or two before the event (flaking) you may also be blocked and removed from the group if there is a waitlist, very unfair to those people. **People Not On The Going List** This is a major security concern, **DO NOT TURN UP RANDOMLY**.You will be asked to leave the event unless you have made arrangements with the organiser **PRIOR** to the event. **People Who Are Late** You will be left behind and or removed and blocked from the group as a **No Show.** It is your responsibility to communicate with the organiser if you will be late. It's up to you to catch up. This may not be possible for some events. **Second Chances** Please communicate with the organiser if you do not want to be blocked and removed from the group 🚩**Disclaimer: No Liability & Organiser Indemnity** By participating in this event, you acknowledge and accept full personal responsibility for your own safety, wellbeing, and belongings. The organiser assumes no liability for injury, loss, or damage incurred during the activity. Participation is entirely at your own risk.
【Melbourne Meetup】AWS re:Invent re:Cap
【Melbourne Meetup】AWS re:Invent re:Cap
AWS re:Invent is Amazon Web Services’ flagship global technology conference, held annually in Las Vegas since 2012. Every year, the most critical updates and shifts around Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, and AI are first discussed, debated, validated, and refined at re:Invent — shaping technology decisions for years to come. This is not just another tech conference. It is where engineers, architects, and AWS core teams collectively define the future direction of cloud technology. Many AWS technologies are officially announced for the very first time at re:Invent. And just recently, AWS re:Invent has concluded in the US. From AWS re:Invent to Melbourne Bringing Global Cloud Insights to the Local Tech Community Shortly after re:Invent wrapped up, JR Academy is bringing first-hand insights from the global cloud stage directly to Melbourne. At this critical moment, JR Academy, together with KSUG, is hosting an in-person technical meetup to share real observations and discussions straight from the conference floor. This is not a replay or summary of re:Invent sessions. It’s a focused exchange that brings key global cloud judgments back to the local engineering community. Not a “Re-cap”, but a Deep Technical Exchange What engineers bring back from AWS re:Invent is rarely just slide decks. More often, it’s: Which EKS and AI directions were repeatedly discussed on-site Which technologies looked promising, yet sparked real debate among engineers How personal technical judgments and engineering thinking evolve after high-density information exposure These insights are difficult to fully capture through live streams, blogs, or recap articles — yet they are often the most valuable inputs for real-world technical decisions. JR Academy hopes to open these discussions to more engineers. **Event Focus** 🔹 First-hand perspectives from [AWS](https://aws.amazon.com) re:Invent Participants who attended re:Invent in person will share what they saw, heard, and felt — beyond what appeared in keynotes. 🔹 Amazon EKS & Kubernetes topics Exploring changes in platform capabilities, architecture design, and engineering practices, and discussing the next phase of Kubernetes within the AWS ecosystem. 🔹 AI insights & emerging trends Practical takeaways and new signals around AI from the conference. **Event Perks** 🎯 Food & drinks available from 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM (first come, first served) 🧃 Open networking & face-to-face technical discussions **Registration Notes** ⚠️ Amazon Office security requirements: Photo ID required (Passport or Driver’s License) Registration must be under your real name Thank you for your understanding. **Event Details** 📍 Location Amazon MEL12, Level 13 304/555 Collins St, Melbourne VIC 3000 🕠 Time January 14, 2025 — 6:00 PM (Melbourne time) 🎯 How to Register Click “Attend” on the right to secure your spot. 📍 Technical Community Discussion After registration, please contact JR Academy (Xiao Hua) to join the group for deeper technical discussions. Why JR Academy Keeps Doing This At JR Academy, we believe the real gap between engineers is not just about mastering individual tools — but about building independent understanding and judgment at the very beginning of change. Not everyone can attend AWS re:Invent in person. But the key insights it generates deserve to be heard as early as possible. That’s exactly why we bring it to you. **🤝 Acknowledgements** AWS Melbourne Office — Venue support [KSUG](https://ksug.ai/) — Global AI & Cloud-Native Community

🍕 Eat, Drink, Dance… and Actually Eat This Time: Eat & Walk Adventure
🍕 Eat, Drink, Dance… and Actually Eat This Time: Eat & Walk Adventure
**🍕 Eat, Drink, Dance… and Actually Eat This Time: Choose‑Your‑Own Eat & Walk Evening 🍕** **++Update: The event is proving much more popular than anticipated, I'm going to limit the numbers to 20 until I can confirm with Topolinos pizza how many people they can cater to, once I know, then I'll adjust max numbers++** Look, I’ve realised something slightly embarrassing: the Eat activity in the Eat Drink Dance Melbourne title has been treated like the quiet kid in the group project. Neglected. Overlooked. Underfed. Time to make amends — with carbs, twilight, and a little light cardio. We'll head down to Topolino Pizza in St.Kilda on Fitzroy St. They have a big menu if you'd prefer something different and prefer a drink as well. **Location:** [Topolino Pizza ](https://maps.app.goo.gl/qFsqY2HMcfYFYbBj9) Because it’s a bit too sweethearty to plonk down at dinner with total strangers straight away, we’re warming things up with a breezy 5km ice‑breaker walk. Think of it as foreplay for pizza. **⏰ Start time: 6.30pm Sharp** **⏳ Arrival time**: 6.15pm — I’m not waiting for stragglers so get there on time. **⏱ If you’re late**: Meet us at Topolinos around 7.45pm and pretend you were there the whole time. **🌙 Evening & Twilight Walk Route** We’ll glide (or shuffle, no judgement) from the Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre near the Shrine of Remembrance, wander past the Melbourne Aquatic Centre, the swans and fish at Albert Park lake, and finish triumphantly at Topolinos Pizza Restaurant — where the real bonding begins. **🍽 Choose Your Own Adventure (Carb Edition**) **Option 1 — Walk + Pizza** Join the evening parade all the way to Topolinos and reward yourself with pizza or whatever edible joy calls your name. Make your own way home after banter, food and drinks. **Option 2 — Pizza Only** Skip the walk, arrive fresh and fabulous at Topolinos, and meet the sweaty romantics who did the trek. Be there around 7.45 PM. Look for the ravenous bunch. **Option 3 — Walk + Pizza + Walk** For the overachievers, romantics, and people who “just love steps”: walk to Topolinos, feast, then stroll back through the lovely twilight around Albert Park lake to the Shrine and Visitor Centre. Carbs in, carbs out, smug glow achieved. **✨ Vibe Check** Fun. Flirty. Lightly chaotic. A little wholesome, a little unhinged, and very Melbourne. Come for the walk, stay for the pizza, leave with new friends, a warm glow, and possibly a new favourite ritual. 👀**Group Rules and Event Etiquette** **Fitness Requirements**: **Walking:** 3 to 4km/hr Ensure you have adequate fitness, it's unfair for the group to wait extended periods for you. You may be asked to exit the event as a consequence. **Very Fast or Very Slow People** It's a group activity the organiser can't manage the group if people are everywhere, please consider going by yourself, joining faster groups or having adequate fitness. **Busy People** Best to give yourself some wiggle room, or not attend the event if you have time constraints. Things rarely go to time, especially when having fun. **⚠️+++VERY IMPORTANT+++** **People Who Do A No Show**. Remove yourself from the going list at least 24 hours before the event to give people on the waitlist an opportunity. **If you do a No Show you will likely be removed and blocked from the group**. If you remove yourself from the event an hour or two before the event **(flaking)** you may also be blocked and removed from the group, especially if there is a waitlist, very unfair to people on the waitlist. **People Not On The Going List** This is a major security concern, **DO NOT TURN UP RANDOMLY**.You will be asked to leave the event unless you have made arrangements with the organiser **PRIOR** to the event. **People Who Are Late** You will be left behind and or removed and blocked from the group as a **No Show**. The goal of this training is to help you flip your income into ownership. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ **Most real estate agents build their business one transaction at a time.** Investors build wealth—and they buy repeatedly. The Investor Decoder shows why serving investors is the fastest path to predictable income, repeat deal flow, and a higher-value role in real estate. In this session, you’ll learn how to identify and serve the four core investor profiles that drive the majority of investor activity: * The Flipper – speed, volume, and clear exits * The Landlord – long-term cash flow and stability * The Creative Investor – complex deals and problem-solving * The Private Lender – capital partners who enable scale You’ll discover how each profile thinks, what they value most, and what they expect from an agent—so you can position yourself as a trusted advisor instead of just another salesperson. We’ll also cover: * Why investors represent a massive opportunity in today’s market * How working with investors elevates you to a Real Estate Wealth Advisor * The key questions that quickly decode investor goals and timelines * A clear action plan to start building your investor pipeline If you’re ready to escape the transaction treadmill and earn more by working with investors, this session will show you how. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ **Did you miss it?** [Watch all GRID Reston event playback on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOTh5kxLLJI1G3VH6Pqhlhu0uTA8yrdpi) ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ **Join the GRID Facebook Community** [Join the online GRID community here](https://www.facebook.com/groups/gridinvestor) to post deals, ask questions, and connect with other investors across the globe.
