Fat Tire Festival 2014 – Two days of fun!

National Trails Day is June 7th, come out to Lake Crabtree County Park for an REI/TORC trail maintenance day. We will work on the hiking and biking trails, install some new features and much more. This is the day to show some trail love! Food & drink will be provided.

Please sign up here: http://www.meetup.com/torc-nc/events/173585462/ so we can get a headcount for food and a free REI t-shirt.

Trail work planned: We have a good project with some rerouting by the boat ramp. It will require bench cutting the new tread, a berm, rehabbing the old trail, and putting in steps for hiker bypass. There should be plenty of work and very close to the parking lot where we can setup support tents with water and snacks.

Fat Tire Festival June 8th! Lake Crabtree County Park. We will have events celebrating mountain biking from 10-4 pm.

Schedule:

10-4 Register, meet and greet your fellow mountain bikers! Please rsvp so we know you are coming and can make sure we have you counted for food and drink.

11-3 pm Mountain bike time trial race! $20 to enter plus $10 for a do-over lap! This will be a short track race (route TBD), expect some anaerobic fun and burn yourself out. Register in person the day of the race. More information here: http://torc-nc.org/racing/Crabtree-time-trial/

TORC lead group rides! There will be two group rides during the festival. One at 10:30am and one at 1pm. These rides will start from the TORC booth\tent. These rides are non-drop beginner to intermediate rides around LCCP and should not last longer than 1-1.5 hours.

12-4 pm Dirt Jam: a beginner dirt jump skills clinic and dirt jump show to see how the experts fly.

2-3 pm Strider Race! Bring your kids out for the coolest race in the Triangle. No pedals = fun!

3-4 pm Membership Drive! REI is sponsoring a raffle of a mtn. bike to existing TORC IMBA members and any new members that join TORC IMBA before the raffle and on site. TORC IMBA membership is important. A large group of active mtb advocates shows land owners an ever increasing need for this recreation, 40% of your dues comes back to this club for building trail and the large participation at advocacy and trail building\maintenance events gives an even bigger message to our land owners\managers.

Kids group ride at 1O:30 am: Parker and his family will lead a kids ride from the TORC tent at 10:30am. Parents, you must accompany your kids and help lead them along the ride with Parker.

12-4 pm REI will host classes on Mtn bike maintenance, yoga for the outdoor athlete, stewardship programs for the kids

10-4 pm Vendor corral: Bicycle Chain, Performance, Back Alley Bikes, Bullseye, Frank’s Cyclery, Forged Fitness, and more!
