November 8th Member Appreciation\Membership Drive and Prez's Letter

Dear TORC Meetup members and fellow mtbers,

I just wanted to send out a 'President's Letter' to go with our upcoming Member Appreciation and Membership Drive event.  Tie up the end of the year before the Holidays.

Just to touch on a few thoughts:

Remember that TORC Meetup is not the focus of TORC.  TORC seeks to help as many people learn about mountain biking as possible and to grow the sport.  TORC uses Meetup as a tool to accomplish this goal through the rides committee.  Being a member of TORC's Meetup group does not mean being a member of TORC\SORBA\IMBA and TORC's Meetup group should not overshadow the importance of TORC the club and how important it is for everyone to be a member.  The larger number of IMBA members in our area, the larger the impact we have on land manager\owners and those who make decisions that effect our trails and available property for future trails.  IMBA is known worldwide and nationally.  Town, County, State and Federal groups are familiar with IMBA.  TORC represents IMBA in our area and the bigger we are and the more active we are, the better we can use this connection to find opportunities to build more trail, maintain our existing trail and protect our existing trails.  If you have questions about membershp, please attend the Nov. 8th event, email me or our Membership Chairs at anytime.

I am so thankful for our volunteers.

Races:  Our Race Director is doing a great job and works very hard to put on these races for the club.  As a volunteer, this position is very time consuming so please thank her when you can.  Better yet, help her by volunteering for these races.  I am thankful for all those that volunteer and encourage you continue and invite more people to help.  These race events can be made or broken entirely on volunteers.  The races provide funding for the club for the trails program, provide opportunities to race that lead us to have goals for fitness and better mtb skills.  The events are fun and the atmosphere of being with other racers at the events are one of the highlights.

Rides:  TORC had a great year for 2014 and also it's challenges.  Lots of varied rides throughout the week and weekends.  I want to thank all those ride leaders who posted up rides and donated their time so that others could have group rides.  I would like to invite more people to be ready to lead rides, specifically beginner rides.  I know we all are short on time and have specific agendas when it comes to our personal rides but if we have enough volunteers to post one beginner rides, we should be able to keep to our own agendas for our riding and still provide enough beginner rides.  So please, think about how you can help those people looking at mountain biking as a sport that they will learn to enjoy like you do all ready.

Trails:  TORC has an excellent set (committee) of trail coordinators.  We have a trail coordinator for every trail that TORC has committed to help the land manager\owner maintain.  We always need to work on our relationship with the land managers and helping them maintain their trails.  What helps this happen and be successful is large groups of volunteers showing up on the work days that the TC schedules.  This sends one of the most direct messages of TORC's ability to advocate straight to these Town, County, State and Private land managers.  We also keep the trails ready to ride as often as possible and make the trails more enjoyable to ride.  We should all strive to be riders that also take care of the trails versus just riders that ride them alone.

How to help?

Help by joining TORC.  Want to see TORC provide more mtb related events?  Help that happen by volunteering and providing ways for certain events to take place.  Our existing leaders are saturated with fulfilling their roles.  To be able to do more, we need more people to do it.

The rest of the year?

We've got night rides and weekend rides scheduled, we've the UGG race coming soon and we've got trail work to do.  After the Holidays and close to Spring time, we will have another general membership type of event and we will talk about what TORC will do for 2015 and how everyone can help.

Please attend this event:
We've got important information to share, Tom from SORBA will be here to address us, we've got great food and hospitality from Rally Point Sports Grill and great mountain bikers to meet.

Thank you all for what you do for TORC and the mtb community.
