Designing a Striking Image Workshop | Thurs. July 17th, 6-9 PM | $25

This photo is an example of shooting with a frame in mind, time of the day and depth of field.

Have You Ever Wanted to Learn how to Design a Striking Image?

The Designing a Striking Image Workshop is a 3 hour information packed session, where you will learn how to capture the image you have always wanted to. You will learn the 'rules' of line, shape, form, texture, pattern, colour, scale, composition, lighting, frame filling, and background, so that you amaze yourself, and others with your photographs! This intermediate level workshop will include both theory as well as entirely hands-on practical application of these techniques.
Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the session.

Who Is This Workshop For?

Have you ever wondered why you have been out taking pictures with our group, and when you view some of their best shots, you can' believe you did not 'see' some of the things that others have captured, and wondered why their photo are (sometimes) more striking than yours? Have you ever gone back to the photo gallery and reviewed one photo over and over, as it caught your attention, made you wonder about the story behind it, or it created emotion in you?
This workshop is for DSLR users comfortable with their cameras looking to learn more about the art of photography. This workshop will also be of interest to people who want to learn how to create beautiful photographs using more advanced features of the camera rather than just the automatic modes.

This photo is an example of  Rule Of Thirds, How to Pose a Model, Depth of Field,  Natural Lighting and more!

How Does the Workshop Run?

We will be meeting at CK Studios at 589A Annette Street.

We will be doing a slideshow presentation, and then we will have opportunity to use your camera and put your photography skills to work. Time will also be given for questions and individual attention will be given to assure everyone understands the different capturing techniques.

What Will You Learn?

The Designing a Striking Image Workshop is comprised of the following :

• Light and time of day is best to shoot

• Weather patterns and texture of the sky

• How to capture the best scenery and landscape

• Understanding architecture and buildings

• Introduction to street photography

• How to story tell through an image

• Shutterspeeds and exposure

• Lines and the power of the diagonal lines

• When to use Manual Mode for creative flexibility

• Keep the Frame in Mind

• Horizontal VS. Vertical Aspects

• The Introduction to shooting a Model

• And much much more...

Added Bonus Workshop Material:

Tips for "Designing a Striking Image" Hand Out / PDF File.

What Do You Need to Bring?

• DSLR Camera & Lens(es) or Point & Shoot with Advanced Controls

• Fully charged batteries

• Freshly formatted memory cards

• Pen and Paper

• Creativity & Imagination

Good photography is something personal and deeply satisfying, and an art where constant learning and exploration leads to better results. Training your eye to 'see' and 'portray' the essence and spirit of what you are experiencing is truly powerful.

- Nathalie

"Excellent workshop. This workshop is designed to help all beginners to learn and improve their skills in photography. I had fun and really enjoyed it.

- Gary

"Great info presented in an easily understandable & applicable manner. Liked having cameras in hand as info presented."

- Peggy

"This workshop truly inspired me, I couldn't stop taking pictures all the way home, to an extent that an old gentlemen approached me while I was standing on a barrier off the ground, trying to take a picture and asked me “What are you taking pictures of, there’s nothing there?”, oh but there was so much around, how could he not see it!!! :) This workshop gave me a kick in the right direction and now I know I want to learn MORE! "

- Irina B.

"I found it really useful especially because you were able to spend some time one on one with us and because we got to be out and about trying what we learned as opposed to just sitting in a classroom."

- Bianca

"This course was a fantastic introduction to the DSLR. The teacher was very relaxed and common-sense, able to make complex information understandable for relatively non-technical people (like myself). I was impressed by the depth of knowledge and experience as well as the passion for the art-form."

- Carolyn

Is there accessible parking ? I am coming from Oshawa so I am trying to figure out if it's best to take the Go train or drive

    July 16, 2014

    • Carly

Yes there is a lot of parking on the street in the area, if not on Annette Street, then on the side streets will work!

If you are taking the Go Train it would be best to travel to Mimico station. I have the link of how to travel from Mimico Station to the Studio here : http://www.ttc.ca/Tri...

      I hope this helps you
