Guest speaker Oksana Andreiuk (@CanadianBiohacker) will present an overview of longevity industry, covering:
* What is aging ?
* What are the aging biomarkers?
* What is the current state of the longevity industry (companies, non-profits and research institutes)
Duane Hewitt will be presenting "The Prospect of Immortality: Radical life extension in advance of the Singularity."
We hear about advances in biology all the time: victories in the war on cancer or new treatments for degenerative diseases. However it seems like we have plateaued in terms of extending lifespan and healthspan. This presentation will be a survey of the state of the art combined with my personal journey as a superlongevity enthusiast which began at a young age.
Oksana Andreiuk (@CanadianBiohacker) is on a mission to bring biohacking and anti-aging science to the mainstream in Canada and to help individuals optimize their mental and physical performance, with the ultimate vision of extending healthspan and lifespan. It’s this vision that inspired her to found Biohacking & Longevity TO, hosting monthly meetup events to educate and provide a platform for live discussions. Oksana is a futurist with a long-standing interest in the applications of biotechnology and the science of aging, holding an HonsBSc in genetics and a Master of Biotechnology from the University of Toronto. Duane Hewitt has over twenty years of experience in molecular biology research and life sciences product development. Mr. Hewitt has successfully contributed to many areas of biology during the course of his career including engineering tools to manipulate antibiotic producing bacteria, conducting high throughput screening on cancer stem cells, engineering a universal influenza vaccine and conducting animal studies for proof of concept and for safety for novel immunotherapeutic proteins. His research in these diverse areas has resulted in both patents and papers. During the course of his work he has learned to balance the importance of adding value to products and programs while mitigating risks. Recently Mr. Hewitt worked with Translational Life Sciences, a neuroscience company optimizing cannabinoids for unmet medical needs, to develop nutraceutical products to sit at the interface between the recreational and medical cannabis markets. Mr. Hewitt’s recent focus has been the supplement space where timelines to bring a product to market are much less onerous than therapeutic drug development. Duane has a lifelong passion for longevity research and chose his career as a means to achieve that end.
