    The Hwacheon Trout Ice Fishing Festival is the biggest in Korea. It is huge! And it’s the best. We have been to others and we can say this is the best. Do not miss this festival if you are in Korea!


    And it’s much more than just a fishing festival. There is so much to see and do you will be amazed how so much can be packed into one day! It’s really quite special!

    HWACHEON ICE FISHING FESTIVAL


    Here are some things you can see or do:

    TROUT FISHING


    They will have holes in the ice for you to fish for trout. (Trout is like salmon. Orange in color and so tasty. We will all get one grilled fish to eat. So good~~ ^^ Bring your favorite alcoholic beverage!) Fishing Gear is included. 


    In addition, you have the option to fish with bare hands. Then you can take that fish you caught and get it either grilled or fillet as hwe (raw fish). Bare Hands Catching means you will be given shorts and a shirt to wear and change into in the changing room. After catching the fish you will come back into the building and dip your feet in warm water to warm yourself back up. 



    SLIDES AND RIDES


    There are various kinds of slides and rides to make it fun. There is even a 2 person ice bicycle available. The snow tube slide ride is surprisingly exciting. The speed picks up and it’s quite exhilarating! You’ll be able to ride it 3 times~^^



    GIANT SNOW AND ICE SCULPTURES 


    There is a large ice sculpture indoor cave park and well as a huge snow sculpture park outdoors. Part of it lit up with floodlights in the evening. 


    And a building formerly used as a bomb shelter for North Korean Invasions is now turned into a large ice sculpture exhibition. Monumental buildings and landmarks of the world are rebuilt with ice and lit with beautiful colors.

    LANTERN STREETS 


    The town at this time of the year will have 24,000 lit lanterns to fill the streets of Hwacheon. The lights turn on around 6PM. And there is a live stage where they pump out loud thumping music. 



    DAKGALBI DINNER


    Dakgalbi originated from a city called Chuncheon, which isn’t far away from where the ice festival is held. Hwacheon has a very nice restaurant specialized in this dish. So let’s gather together to share this delicious meal experience! It’s included in the trip! If you have never had it, be prepared to love it instantly!^^ (slightly spicy but not much)
