Winter Masquerade

  • Feb 6, 2010 · 6:00 PM

Put on your fanciest masquerade mask and a nice outfit and come enjoy a winter masquerade at my apartment! With twinkling lights, good food and great friends this party will be a blast! I'll have a few basic masks for those of you who don't have one, though they should be available or easy to get on your own. Please bring a bottle of wine or other drink to share with the guests- please remember to check to make sure the drink is vegan.

We are celebrating the passing of another year/season and appreciating the earth that we must live on. As an environmentalist I think it's important to recognize and celebrate the passage of each season.

Melissa, you can certainly bring something to snack on if you like although I will have a few things soy free- my cupcakes don't have soy in them- nor do my chocolate chip cookies. I'll also have things like chips, bean dip, and hummus which are all soy free. how allergic are you? are you allergic to soy lecithin (which is an additive in a lot of processed foods and such)? what about things that touch soy? (processed in the same facility with, etc) or baking oil which has some soy in it?

I searched Google for Vegan Wines and found a lovely sight. Plus, the VegNews (great mag if you are vegetarian, especially vegan!) just voted Yellow Tail Shiraz as best vegan wine of the year. You can get that at Harris Teeter or even Target!! As for that, all Yellow Tail wines are vegan.

My question regarns this: I am severely allergic to soy, and I know that a lot of vegan "cheeses" or dips include this. Would it be preferable to bring something to gnosh or drink?

Ram, I'm not sure- I usually get mine from Earthfare because I know they're all vegan- if you go to walmart you'll just have to look by brand.. if you have a phone with internet access it would make it easier.

Melissa, I was told that all of the wines at earthfare are vegan. Or: http://www.barnivore.com/ as for attire, don't feel obligated to dress up too much as it's just at my apartment :-) People will undoubtedly be wearing different degrees of casual to dressy. I plan to dress up. Wear something that will be comfortable. As for your mask- here's a photo of the mask I'll be wearing: http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs190.snc1/6382_124407487970_602272970_2465583_4152520_n.jpg

I am going to have to research this one a little. I had planned on attending the Boba House event and ended up with a migraine. Apparently, festivities make me literally sick :( I am in need to know of some vegan wines and whether this should be something similar to Carnivale in attire. Thanks for letting me know so that I can take proper steps toward preparation!
