Traditional Thankgoodness Dinner (Four courses and wine)

Arcadia Lodge will be hosting a vegan dinner on Thanksgiving, which we call "Thankgoodness!", because no one here needs to explain their weird food choices to anyone; also, we will be celebrating Goodness on that day and not some of the negative historical connotations of Thanksgiving (rather Thanks-taking...).

Here is the menu for our Thankgoodness dinner party! We will start with a pear and parsnip bisque, followed by a salad resplendent with autumn colors and flavors including kale, pomegranate, pecans, carrots, squash and more!  The main course will feature maple roasted acorn squash stuffed with apple walnut corn bread dressing. There will be mashed heirloom potatoes, with skins (nutrients intact), and a vegan green bean casserole. We will also have vegan "turkey" slices with gravy, fresh cranberry sauce and whole grain rolls. Dessert will be sweet potato pie in a pecan oatmeal crust topped with a dollop of coconut whip cream. You will have your choice of coffee and teas along with a glass of wine. Feel free to bring to also BYOB.

The soup , salad and squash dish will be gluten free, as will the mashed potatoes.  The green bean casserole will not be, but I will offer a side of steamed green beans as a substitute. The turkey slices will not be gluten free, nor will the rolls. The pie will be gluten free. Everything will be soy free except for the "turkey" and the pie. Most of the ingredients will be organic and locally sourced.

I hope that this sounds enticing and delicious! We will be accepting reservations through the evening of the 26th. Seating will be limited to twenty folks.  If you RSVP, we really want you to show up. The food is expensive and we don't want to buy too much, or spend more time on cooking everything than is really required! Thank you for supporting this endeavor!

We are requesting a twenty dollar donation per adult for this meal. Kids under 5 may eat for free; for those between five and twelve, please donate ten dollars.  We are always open to work for food exchanges.

Maria's dinner was great, wonderful seeing new and past acquaintances and Wills piano and guitar playing is always marvelous and relaxing. Plus new and returning musicians. Thanks everyone for an enjoyable evening.

A friend named Kelly just sent an email to you. She would like to attend the Thanksgiving event tomorrow. I added her as a guest attending with me. I hope this is okay.

    Hi folks,
Arcadia Lodge is on Facebook and I have been posting some of our vegan events there on the public calender. Since many of the folks who come to our dinners respond through other channels it looks to the general public on Facebook that these events are unattended, when really we usually have over twenty people at each dinner. I think that if more folks could also RSVP on the Facebook calender, that would send the signal that these vegan happenings are actual well attended events and may atract more people curious about veganism. If you are on Facebook, please consider RSVPing there as well - go to the event calender link; it's a choice on the left side of the screen that has an icon of a calender. You may have to like us, in order to see our posts on your event calender link. Thanks!

Hi Maria! Sounds great! I can also bring some wine. Please let me know I you need anything else. I am great at last minute grocery store runs.

I know it's impossible to take everyone's issues under consideration, but along with being a vegan I also have certain health issues that keep me from eating most things. I was wondering if most of the meal will be with spices, soy and/or non-organic tomato sauce? Thank you for your time.

Hi Joel, I am afraid that there will be spices and soy products in the meal. Spices are very healthful and add flavor. I won't make anything taste too spicey in a "hot" way. I don't plan to have tomato sauce in this meal. Most of the ingredients will be organic and locally sourced, but not all of them. I hope this information helps! Maria

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately I'm probably the only vegan who can't eat soy because of my condition, likewise with spices. However, something else did come up so I wont be in attendance. I hope you have a wonderful time.

Will there be plenty of gluten-free options?

    November 4, 2013

I am sure we can arrange that , but the kitchen is not a gluten free environment. We will do our best to have a vegan gluten free choice for each course. I willl need to take a head count for that option. I will post the menu soon. Thanks for getting me thinking about that now! Much would have been gluten free anyway, just by default.

Thanks Maria and Will for November 2 for Birthdays. Is there anything that I can assist with for thankgoodness?
