Morning folks,
I have the unfortunate task of passing along some bad news - apparently Benelux Cafe in City Market is officially closing its doors tomorrow, Tuesday Aug 26. Steve emailed me last night and told me he had problems with the City Market landlord, so he's decided to leave that location. It's a real shame because it was such a cool place to hang out - and to my knowledge it's the only local coffee shop with a TV (which is partly why it works out so well for our group).
He's been building a new cafe in Cameron Village for the past year, and it's almost finished - whether or not it opens in late September depends on the developers of the apartments above him getting their construction done on schedule. In the meantime, that means we need a different place to watch Monza (and possibly Singapore).
We've been having some really big turnouts lately so Kristen and I will be happy to open up our living room again to accommodate this - we have seating for about 15. (If anyone has a bigger living room/den and wants to host, let me know.) One caveat: we do have an extremely friendly 5-month-old puppy, so if you have pet allergies or aren't interested in having a furball bopping around underfoot, you may want to skip this one.
The new Benelux Cafe should definitely be open by the time the Russian GP rolls around on Oct 12. I hope you will continue to support Steve at his new location (402 Oberlin Rd) - of all the cafe/restaurant/bar owners I've contacted over the past several years (to find Meetup venues), he's by far been the most accommodating.
Cheers and see you soon,
Marc
