  • Willow Cutting

    Prairie Ridge Ecostation

Please note the time change from 1:30 PM to 10 AM to avoid the rain on Saturday. We will now be meeting on Saturday morning at 10 AM. Come out and cut some Black Willow branches for your bunny to enjoy! Take some willow home with you, and help us cut some willow twigs for the bunnies at SPCA, the museum (we have seven educational bunnies), foster bunnies, etc. This event will be rescheduled to Sunday, January 20 from 1:30-3:30pm in case of bad weather. An email will be sent out the night before if we will change to the backup date. Thanks to Margaret for organizing this meetup! What to Wear/Bring *Be sure to dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes, as we will be out in the cold and wind. *Loppers, pruners, and waders will be provided, but bring your own if you have them. *Please also bring a bag to take home your branches (most will be small twigs less than the diameter of a pencil and a few larger twigs up to 3 inches across. The longest length would be about 18 inches). *Please, no pets, including rabbits in strollers, and no food on the grounds and no bicycles. Human babies in strollers are permitted. Location We will be cutting Black Willow at the small pond at Prairie Ridge Ecostation, 1671 Gold Star Drive in west Raleigh near the fairgrounds. A map of the area is attached. It is oriented so that 'up' on the map is the same as standing in the parking lot looking at the front door of the brick building. Additional Details We have allocated two hours for the workshop however it only takes about 20 minutes to cut what you need, but you may stay long to cut extra for the foster, shelter, and educational bunnies. Please arrive on time or if you come late be prepared to find your way to the pond (using the map) by yourself. It is ok to arrive at any time during the workshop, but you will need to direct yourself to the pond if you arrive late. We will leave for the pond at 1:35. If you need assistance to the pond, I can take one person at a time in the Gator. There are bathrooms in the wooden building at the end of the loop in the road. They are far from the pond, and we can drive people there if needed. The building, labeled Research Lab on the map, is off-limits to the public. The Prairie Ridge office is in the trailer. The staff person on duty that weekend is Stephanie Horton.
