This trip is a cross-meetup with my other group the central jersey backpackers. It should be a lot of fun, all experience levels are welcome.
Lets Meetup and Backpack 18 miles on the Appalachian Trail! We will be starting this trip in Duncannon, PA and hiking north towards PA 325. On Saturday we will park meet at the small parking lot off PA 325 Clarks Valley Rd, Dauphin, PA 17018. We'll leave a car there and then shuttle south towards Duncannon, PA where we'll hop on the trail and hike 11.3 miles to Peters Mountain Shelter.
This shelter is very large and can fit over 20 people, however you are invited to bring a tent in case the shelter is full (unlikely). We are entering thru-hiker season in PA and we'll want to be considerate to the long distance hikers moving through. The next morning we'll pack up and hike 6.7 miles towards PA 325, where we left our car. We'll most likely be done before noon, making it a pretty early day.
On this hike we'll get several nice views at Kinter View, Table Rock, and a view of the Susquehanna. Besides the initial incline coming out of Duncannon the terrain is pretty flat, although the AT in PA is famous for its rocky trails. We'll have a small decline coming back in to PA 325.
Things to Bring:
warmer clothes for camp
food for lunch dinner breakfast and snacks
