Last fall in Anytown, U.S.A., a documentary video and production class taught by Randolph Benson at the Center for Documentary Studies, six continuing education students produced short documentaries about subjects of their choice in Smithfield, North Carolina. Each term, students in the course focus on a different small town in the state.

The six videos - covering American Legion Posts and race relations, the historic Bank of Smithfield buildings, a legendary moonshiner, a hotdog packing company, the county’s one rescue mission, and local tobacco culture - were screened in Smithfield in December. This will be the first Durham screening for the six short documentaries. READ MORE
