Please read the entire description before signing up, and please be on time. Lets try this again and hope for better weather.
Let's do an evening/night Bug Springs up and back. This is going to be fairly difficult; most people do this one way, but we're going to go up and then come back down. The ONE WAY mileage is 4.4 miles with an accumulated elevation gain of 1500 feet. For us, this means an 8.8 mile trip with 1500 feet on the way up and 1500 feet on the way down. (1500 feet of gain on the way up, 500 feet of gain on the way back down due to hills for a total climb of 2000 feet). Please do not sign up for this hike unless you are 100% sure you can do a hike of this difficulty late at night. We will take a break on the way up and take a slightly longer break at the upper trailhead before coming back. I plan to move at a relatively liesurely pace on the way up, so that we are not burned out for the return trip.
The HikeArizona website has some good information on the elevation change; there is an elevation map showing how the trail elevation changes throughout the route. http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=1591
We will meet at LeBuzz at 6:15pm and depart from there no later than 6:30pm. Please arrive no later than 6:15 so we can work out carpools and get out on time. We should be at our lower trailhead by 7:00pm. I expect this to take about 5 hours, so we will finish the hike around midnight, possibly later. It should be an interesting adventure.
Please make sure you have enough water; i expect 3 liters is sufficient. Please also bring a snack if you like. We will be burning some serious calories on this trip. Flashlights are a MUST. Do not show up for this without a good flashlight. A backup or extra batteries are a good idea, too. We will be in the dark for at least 4 hours. Snakes and other wildlife are possible...
