Tram Road Fitness Walk

  • This location is shown only to members

  • Are you looking to build your walking endurance without worrying about slick rock, loose rock, or thorny vegetation? Are you looking for a physically active way to spend a couple of hours? Ever wanted to try out the 6 PM group at the Friday stroll, but didn't want to come out on a Friday?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then come join me on an evening mission to walk the entire Sabino Canyon tram road! This is suitable for beginners looking to train up, as the entire route is paved and you can turn back when it gets to be too much for you (although I will be encouraging you to make it to each mile-marker.) It's even suitable for more experienced hikers who are just looking to stretch their legs or break in new equipment, as I will be aiming for a pace of just over 3 MPH.

We will meet at the ramada at 6:15 PM, do a quick round of introductions, and then start walking. My goal is to be back at the ramada by 8:45 PM.

    STATS:
    Grade: Beginner/Intermediate
    Total distance: 7.4 miles
    Total elevation gain: 635 feet
    Total hiking time: 2h30m

    WHAT TO BRING:
    - A working flashlight is mandatory! Remember to check your batteries beforehand.
    - Footwear good for the distance we'll be walking.
    - A liter or two of water.

    IMPORTANT:
Please take RSVPs seriously i.e. if you sign up, show up; and only show up if you've signed up. If you can't make it, please update your RSVP. Please make sure you are at the ramada, and ready to hike, at the start time. If you aren't accounted for (either by me taking attendance, or you letting me know you will be late/absent) by the time we depart for the hike, you will receive a no-show! No-shows have consequences. Collecting them can get you removed from, or waitlisted on, future hikes. Collecting enough of them can get you removed from the group. I understand that things come up, but it is your responsibility to keep your RSVPs up-to-date.

Finally, since we will be moving at quick pace, please consider your physical fitness and comfort with night hiking before signing up; because while you can turn back, you'll likely be going back in the dark.
