Tortolita Mountains: Loop Hike along the West Rim to Alamo Spring

Let's head up north to Marana for a Black Friday hike in the Tortolita mountains.

Distance: 10.4 miles
Elevation Gain: 1330 feet
Total Time: plan on 4 to 5 hours

Due to the distance, this hike is for experienced hikers only.

This is a fun hike with some really awesome views of the surrounding mountains.  We'll hike for a couple of hours and then find a spot for lunch while we enjoy the surrounding scenery.

Directions : From Tangerine, travel north on Dove Mountain Blvd and take a right at the traffic circle at the end of the road toward the Ritz Carlton. Let the Gatekeeper know you will be hiking. He will tell you where the trailhead parking is.  Please give yourself plenty of time to get there.  The drive up Dove Mountain Blvd is further than most people anticipate.

Required Gear
- 3 to 4 liters of water
- sun protection!!!! (hat, sun screen, sun glasses, chapstick, etc.)
- snacks
- camera (optional)

Hike at your own risk.

Be sure to ask the guard at the entrance. He'll send you up the road. You will eventually take a right turn and there should be a parking lot specifically for hikers. Construction was ongoing on the parking lot when I was last there and should now be completed. But just ask the guard and he'll let you know for sure.
