• Intro to React Redux - User Registration & Login

This is a Youtube live streaming event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njPv6VHqjBs This is the first part in a short series showing how to set up a simple React/Redux application with user registration and login. The project will be bare-bones and minimalistic as it is meant to show only this one area of functionality. Depending on pace and progress, this series may be 2 or 3 parts total. REQUIRED Please install the Turbo CLI ($ sudo npm install turbo-cli -g) and create an account on Turbo 360 (https://www.turbo360.co). We will deploy our projects on the Turbo staging environment. https://www.turbo360.co

  • Build a Portfolio Site in 90 Minutes with HTML, CSS, Mustache, and Turbo360

    • What we'll do **Users should have some experience with HTML/CSS** We will work to build a portfolio website and deploy it on Turbo360 which each user can use as a portfolio website for any upcoming projects they create. We will deploy it live by the end of the session so students can showcase. • What to bring Please bring a laptop (preferably Mac) and make sure you have a text-editor installed: Sublime or Atom should be fine. Also, this is not for complete beginners - you should have a basic knowledge of Javascript as well as HTML/CSS. • Important to know Space is limited - please do not RSVP then fail to show up. This prevents other people who really want to go from registering. Also, do not be late. We will begin at 12:00pm sharp and anyone who arrives afterward will not be allowed in (building policy).

  • Intro to Web Development - Javascript, Node, Express

    WeWork Irving Place

Few industries change faster than technology. Specifically, the web development world is a constantly ever-shifting landscape of languages, frameworks, libraries, platforms and more. For those new to this field, it can be overwhelming. In this hands-on workshop, we will explore the current areas of full stack web development and examine the trends that will impact your career in the near future. This is a great primer for those looking to break into the software field but are having trouble knowing where to begin. What We Will Build During the workshop, we will code a simple full-stack (backend + frontend) website that renders dynamic data. In doing so, we will dissect the underlying pieces and their relation to the overall web development ecosystem (Javascript, jQuery, Bootstrap, etc.) Finally, we will deploy our projects to the Turbo 360 staging environment where it will be live for the world to see. Who This workshop is ideal for beginners looking to get into software as a career. However, you should not be a complete beginner - if you have done a few html/css/js tutorials online, you should be fine. If not, this is a good place to begin: https://www.turbo360.co/tutorials Required Please bring a laptop (preferably Mac) and make sure you have a text-editor installed: Sublime or Atom should be fine. Also, this is not for complete beginners - you should have a basic knowledge of Javascript as well as HTML/CSS. Attendance Space is limited - please do not RSVP then fail to show up. This prevents other people who really want to go from registering. Also, do not be late. We will begin at 7:30pm sharp and anyone who arrives afterward will not be allowed in. • Full Stack React & Redux Workshop -

    WeWork Irving Place

React & Redux have firmly established itself as the go-to choice for modern web development. From Facebook to AirBnB to Slack, React is used in the largest companies as well as among small startups. What We Will Build In this hands-on workshop, we will create a full stack web app using React, Redux and Turbo 360 for deployment (https://www.turbo360.co (https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.turbo360.co%2F&h=ATP0D2JtVFC1v0pKq9JfsdwAvndlPSt1GsMAM84wIm0_W0Du5wOYpOQNpNaZ5GFgp1FvVz0Cz3z947YGyKSF8qmlQJGO5Z4iTenWzGmh7_U6IMmPgyEk0CxE256rPnejTOaosSrmlA5GU-z5xDW3uoqyyWGE3cHSX2-8_kN9MxgKWxCyKULfclWPmsjSoKS4kU0JbHE)). On our app, users will be able to register, login, and update their profiles. If there is time, we will add file uploading for images and a comment posting section where users can post comments - much like a simple Reddit feed. Required Please bring a laptop (preferably Mac) and make sure you have a text-editor installed: Sublime or Atom should be fine. Also, this is not for complete beginners - you should have a basic knowledge of Javascript as well as HTML/CSS. Attendance Space is limited - please do not RSVP then fail to show up. • Intro Web Development - Working With APIs

    WeWork Irving Place

Almost every web project at some point requires the use of a 3rd party API. From Instagram to Google Maps, to Foursquare, to Twitter, outside APIs power millions of websites by providing data otherwise un-attainable such as GPS coordinates of a street address. Working with outside APIs however can be a bit tricky, often requiring access keys, authentication and more. In this demo, we will implement a few APIs and render the data in a "sampler" website where users can try the various API integrations. What We Will Build In this hands-on workshop, we will create a full stack web web app using Node, Express and Turbo 360 for deployment (https://www.turbo360.co (https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.turbo360.co%2F&h=ATP0D2JtVFC1v0pKq9JfsdwAvndlPSt1GsMAM84wIm0_W0Du5wOYpOQNpNaZ5GFgp1FvVz0Cz3z947YGyKSF8qmlQJGO5Z4iTenWzGmh7_U6IMmPgyEk0CxE256rPnejTOaosSrmlA5GU-z5xDW3uoqyyWGE3cHSX2-8_kN9MxgKWxCyKULfclWPmsjSoKS4kU0JbHE)). Attendees should have a basic understanding of HTML/CSS and Javascript but do not have to be experts - this is intended for beginners. • Site Clone - Reddit

    WeWork Irving Place

The best way to learn programming (or anything for that matter) is to mimic the experts. In this workshop, we will do exactly that by rebuilding a small aspect of the Reddit website. During this hands-on workshop, we will build a simple site where users can post comments and reply to other comments. Far from a full-scale Reddit duplicate, our site will be a good starting point for learning how dynamic web apps work. This is well suited for beginners with little development experience and looking to sharpen their overall programming skills. This prevents other people who really want to go from registering. Also, do not be late. We will begin at 7:00pm sharp and anyone who arrives afterward will not be allowed in (building policy). One of the most important steps in validating an idea is getting an MVP into the market. Not just wireframes or a landing page, but an actual application that does what you want it to. In this workshop, we'll discuss the building blocks of an application then clone an actual project and deploy it to the web in minutes. Attendees don't need experience with development. This is intended for beginners. Space is limited - please do not RSVP then fail to show up. This prevents other people who really want to go from registering. Also, do not be late.
