This is a highly scenic coastal walk with fine sea views throughout. It introduces you to some of the quainter sides of Folkestone. We will past two Martello Towers (Napoleonic-era fortifications) onto a high clifftop, following the North Downs Way. This path has fine Channel views, and passes the Battle of Britain Memorial and then a fascinating series of World War II installations, including a rare sound mirror (an early form of aircraft detection that was superseded by radar), and some large gun emplacements.
Please bring a packed lunch or we have a stop on the way in a pub (for lunch, coffee, tea, drinks and snacks)
That depends on how fast we walk! But we should be done walking by 6pm
Ensure you are wearing comfortable walking boots. Bring a small rucksack to carry your packed lunch/water bottle. Swimming suit if you want to swim at the end of the walk, towel, sun cream, sunglasses. Waterproof and windproof jacket (depends on weather).
Not: Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen. DANGER!!! Take care near the cliff edges on this walk, as they are crumbly and liable to collapse: the official advice is to keep 7 metres from any cliff edge.
