Dr. Kaplan has graciously allowed this meetup to be hosted at Macalester College. Thank you! We will be in the Olin-Rice Science Center, Room 205.

From Snelling, turn onto Saint Clair westbound. Pass the playing fields. About 200 yards on from Snelling, there's a brick entrance gate. Turn down that drive. Olin-Rice is the large brick building about 200 yards down the drive. You can park in any of the several lots adjacent or near to the building. Room 205 is off of the atrium in the center of the building.

You can also click on the link with the location above to see the building on Google Maps.

Speaking at this month's event are:

Winston Chang of RStudio: Winston will give an introduction to making R web apps with Shiny. Shiny is an exciting new R package that allows you to create interactive applications right in your browser using the power of R, without knowing JavaScript. It was just announced this past summer, so this is a wonderful opportunity to learn about this up-and-coming technology.

Erik Iverson will be discussing using R to analyze SMS texting data from mobile phones, including some data exploration using the Shiny package.

Other presenters are welcome, please leave a comment or get in touch with one of the organizers!

After the last meetup the following topics were of interest:

Creating R packages Data Visualization and graphics (ggplot2, shiny, etc) Introductory topics (tools, basics, common practices) Basic statistical methods and techniques data mining, machine learning, predictive analytics make for data science (Erik?) R integration/command line integrating R with SQL and/or databases If you would be interested in doing a 15-30 minute presentation (any topic, not limited to those here) please post here or reach out to one of the organizers!
