Toast Wine Bar

Toast was the first wine bar we went to when TC Comedy and Wine started to become TC Wine and Comedy.  It was also one of the best.  It's located in the North Loop and can be a starting point for further alcoholic imbibement.

Here's a happy review, which sounds about right, but I had to plagiarize it because I don't talk like that:

"This little wine bar feels like an insider’s secret, partly because it’s hidden on a side street in Minneapolis’s North Loop neighborhood and partly because, when you order something like the $10 cheese-and-antipasti plate, you are presented with all of the fine-dining tricks of the trade that make white-tablecloth restaurants feel so special—the hard-to-find cheeses and crazy-exotic garnishes like mustard-cured candied violets. No wonder this is where you’ll find all the fine-dining professionals on their nights off. "

They have a happy hour every day from 5-6.  Kinda short.  I guess they take the "hour" part of happy hour seriously.  Happy Hour tip #157: The key to enjoying a short happy hour ending at 6 is to order up at 5:59.  You're very welcome.

They open at 5.  I picked a 5:15 start time so it doesn't look like we're too eager.   Feel free to come later, but you'll be missing some happy hour, and don't you want to be happy?  For an hour?

We'll probably go somewhere else after.  I know Snuggles wants to go to the Marvel Bar.  Not sure how easy that is to get in on a Sat.  One way to find out.  If that doesn't work, we can always go to Deja Vu since Snuggles says she likes to dance.

Anyone coming from the west (Plymouth area) who might want to carpool?

I will be working at the Food and Wine Experience, and I think I will be too late to make it there.

Will text and see if you are still there, when I am done.

You may need multiple texts. My ability to listen decreases with alcohol.

Never been... would love to try it. ;-)

Toast is one of my favorites. I would be there if it were not for this wine drinking thing in the Southern Hemispere. Currently it is a Sav Blanc. For those going to the F&W, try the guys from Dusted Valley. They will be pouring some of their lower end stuff. My personal favorite when they pour it is Squirrel Tooth Alice.

Sorry for the cancellation. We made other plans thinking the wait list would never open to the point of us attending. Hopefully now others still waiting can make it! Next time...

I don't know about about "connected". Gary is just willing to beg and grovel for a few more spots just to keep his Meetup members happy.

Sometimes he throws in a little flattery too. Whatever it takes to get more spots for you.

Was on the wait list so made other plans.

I was able to bump the reservation. Yay! We'll have our own area. I hope to be there early, so look for me. Sometimes what I plan and what I do are not the same. So if I'm not there, just ask where our area is. It should be obvious though as there will be a bunch of tables put together.

Is that like, "do as I say, not as I do" thing?

      February 26, 2014

      No it's not.

Fantastic! Will see you at Toast for a toast!

There are still a bunch of people on the waitlist. Please keep your RSVP up to date. Change your "yes" to a "no" if you can't make it.

For those on the waitlist, don't despair. There are often a number of last minute cancellations. My guess is that we'll be able to add another 4- 6 people from the waitlist.

    February 26, 2014

  • Gary

The wait list is longer than the going list. I will call to see if we can get more spots. Can't guarantee it as small wine bars like this want to accommodate their regulars, but I'll ask.

Where are we at on the wait list?

    February 20, 2014

    • Gary

You are at the top of the waitlist. Because you are a +1, the automatic waitlist will pass you by when a single spot opens up.

      I moved you on manually.

Love Toast. However, I will be with a Wine Maker friend making the new vintage wine for 2014 (i.e., we will be his tasting vats and barrels (2013)) plus eating great food (i.e., I am the cook/chef and chief bottle washer when I am there).

    February 8, 2014

  • Gary

I just called to find out what the happy hour consists of. They will have 3 or 4 reds and 3 or 4 whites by the bottle for $20 each. Normal price runs from $28-$40. Clearly the thing to do is grab some bottles between 5 and 6. There is currently no happy hour pricing on food.
